O/T The most 'amazing ' world attraction you have been to

So as theres a thread about disappointed attractions, how about amazing ones?

I have several but as not to steal posts I'll only do one.

Mine is Niagara Falls. Its stunning. Its so loud and frankly awe inspiring. I have seen them from the Canadian side and American side. Canada is much nicer in the surrounds. Go over the boarder, its a bit of a ghetto.

Going up an down the Grand Canal in Venice on the water bus. Stayed for 4 nights 8 years ago and spent loads of time just going up and down it on the water bus. Stunning

Went on a school trip to Italy in 1995. Spent most of it working out when we could sneak off and smoke tabs or how to smuggle ale into our room.

That said, Venice was breathtaking - in what seems unbelievable now, we were dumped there and left to our own devices. We saw a mad sing song by some Italian ultras that was spine tingling, wandered about going '** hell, this place is mad' and got a very to some of the other islands which were fascinating as it showed how it isn't just a tourist place.

The leaning tower of Pisa though was the moment I remember. I wasn't excited in particular about seeing it but when we came round the corner, I got a weird jolt as it looked for all the world as if it was about to go.

I saw Niagara, from the Buffalo side, it seemed quite nice from memory, however the Canadian side, seemed a bit "Tacky"? PS Groundsman, see my Pitch thread??

I've seen some of those mentioned and others, but the one that sticks in my mind is the Pitlovici Lakes and falls in Croatia. Spectacular and unspoiled.

Statue of Liberty for me, been to all the above as well and thought they were all great as well
Statue of Liberty also.
We also saw it from the top of twin Towers of the WTC, looked very small from up there.
Notre Dame in Paris is quite amazing (or was until some idiot burnt it down).
Went inside as my Cousin was over from USA and her daughters choir sang in there.
Also sang in the Sacre Coeur, Montmartre on the same day. That is a beautiful church.

Chichen itza in mexico
Royal Palace bangkok

But the most fascinating one was last year sailing through the straits of hormuz..... It was totally stunning and bizarre as Iranian gun boats where speeding here there and everywhere

Doing the clifftop walk from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach in Sydney. Spectacular views all the way.

2 seasons in Antarctica + Grand Canyon - travel by mule to Phantom Ranch with an unforgettable overnight stay.

This may sound like a weird one......but the Toilets in the Felix bar at the Peninsular hotel in Hong Kong are an experience to blow your mind.
Maybe "blow" is the wrong word for a toilet......but taking a piss has never been more amazing than in a Philippe Stark bog staring out over Kowloon harbour.....every time I've been back...I have to visit for a cocktail and a slash.....

The other attraction that made me stop and consider...life, love and understanding....The National portrait gallery.......Just do it one day, just wander around, have a coffee in the cafe and you will be amazed.

Gothenberg. A very clean and fresh city that leaves those in the UK standing.

The Eiffel Tower
Cologne Cathedral
Notre-Dame de Paris
Champs-Élysées
Chichen Itza (Mexico)
Tulum ruins (Mexico)

Got quite a few, but I’ll stick to 3. ( Natural World)
As Victorsponge mentioned, Grand Canyon at dawn, as the rising sun sheds light on the incredible dimensions of it, you suddenly feel minuscule, hopelessly insignificant and gob smacked all at the same time!
Iguazú Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina, hard to quantify, they’re that breathtaking! 275 falls of differing sizes, the most awe inspiring being The Devils Throat on the Argentine side. Even Lady Roosevelt reportedly said ‘ Poor Niagra’ on setting eyes on them!
Mount Fuji San. Picture card perfect.

Sigiriya rock in Sri-Lanka.

That said, as places to evoke every imaginable emotion ......... having been to many of the above mentioned, & whilst it may upset some to list it under "attraction" i have to list the Nazi death camps. Nothing in either scale or impact can come close .................. and having paid for the trip to Auschwitz whilst on holiday it comes under the uncomfortable header of attraction. Bergen Belson having an equal impact.

natural world - Canyonlands in Utah
man-made - rally grounds in Nuremberg
The rally grounds fascinated us, to be able to basically stand at the podium where Hitler addressed the Night Rallies was amazing! Some of the architecture was never finished as you’ll know, but Albert Speer didn’t hold back on his Grand Designs! When you think Nuremberg FC‘s ground is part of the area it brings it home how massive the footprint was.

Iguaza falls make Niagra falls look like Swallow falls. I was looking down Devils Throat when text alerted me of Southend taking the lead!

Bts70- I agree 100% with you in relation to the death camps. I visited Auschwitz, it is an haunting experience that brings you close to tears. It is important that the world NEVER forgets what happened there.

Once walked down Regent Street in London to that big roundabout.

Its was so busy it was just like Piccadilly Circus.

Gazing out over Lake Taupo at three volcanoes; Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe and thinking to yourself about when Lake Taupo didn't exist and was created by another volcano blowing up and leaving the crater (Lake Taupo) behind. Stunning visually and thought provoking.

Seen a fair few of the above but I'd go for Machu Picchu with St Basil's and the Kremlin a close second and Positano on the Amalfi Coast in number 3.

Angkor Wat and its surrounding temples and city - Cambodia , amazing history. Population about 1m - English population at the time(whole country) about 1.25m

Macsseasider, I'd forgotten about Cologne Cathedral. They have the most wonderful pictorial stained glass windows.
MrsDP had to drag me away after an hour and a half of taking them in.
Also remembered visiting the 'Pont Du Gard' in SE France. Fantastic structure given the date it was done.
Wasn't too comfortable walking down there though, with Temp 0ver 40C
