o/t Worst Gig you’ve ever been to?

Ginger Baker at Colne blues festival a few years ago he had obviously done himself some serious damage with heroin sounded like Neil of the young ones truly awful. Totally the opposite could be said for Jack Bruce at the same venue both died soon after.

The infamous Eric Clapton performance supporting Bob Dylan at Blackbushe Airport in ‘78. He was so smacked out he just stood unsteadily at the back of the stage strumming. He didn’t sing a note either. He had his support guitarist do vocals and play all the lead parts and solos including Layla and Badge.
Did you see Clapton at the ABC around 74? he was off is tits then also, the only saving grace being Yvonne Ellieman on vocals

I saw a very early New Order gig at the Princess (was it the Princess? The old cinema by North Pier that became Sanuk) . I think Section 25 were the support. They were pretty good but New Order were utterly clueless. Movement is still my favourite NO LP but they had no idea how to present it to us and seemed pretty terrified when they (eventually) came on.

A few years back we went to see the Everly Brothers in Llandudno and they were a miserable pair, no encore and very disappointing.
We were also booked to see for the 2nd time Gene Pitney in 2006, when tragically and disappointingly, he died of a heart attack in his hotel room in Cardiff.

Yep SXXV were support along with Kevin Hewick.
It was called the Venue in ‘82. In fairness to NO their digital sequencer had broken the week before and they trying to play on rented equipment. But to tbh those early days gigs were usually shockers for other reasons 😉

Ordinary Boys at the Winter Gardens. Absolutely gash. Went and propped the bar up after 3 songs. They were supported by Hard-Fi (meh) and the Subways who were superb!

Also Oasis at V Fest, their last ever gig. You could just tell they were about to split. Absolutely shambolic!

Two spring to mind:

Morrissey at the Liverpool arena - he walked off in a hissy fit after one song as someone threw a water bottle at him.

Radiohead in Victoria Park London, awful gig, terrible acoustics.

Queensryche Manchester Uni - went with a mate... grim!
The Charlatans - also in Manchester think it might also have been one of the Uni venues - shockingly bad!
Don't ever go and see a band called Field Music!

Barclay zzzzz James zzzzzzzzz Harvest zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Blackpool Opera House early 70s..

Uriah Heep 90s solo after solo after solo..followed by a drum solo...bass solo ..how to fill 90 mins..I left

Recently the David Holmes band 'Unloved' no excitement there, and took so loooooooooong pauses in between songs..dull.

Teardrop explodes Lancaster uni.... Gash.
Was that about 82 or 83 as think I was there - think they were breaking up but I remember liking it - stoned, pissed and with pals so that might explain - seen Juluan Cope few times since last time February just before lockdown

Billy J Kramer at the Queens in Cleveleys.
He was a late replacement for the Bootleg Beatles .
He was pissed and loved himself.

Marmalade at the Arts Ball in Winter Gardens. They were disinterested and booed off early.
Fortunately there were better acts on like Mott the Hoople

Saw Tom Robinson’s post-TRB band, Sector 27, at Middlesbrough Rock Garden. The band were fine, but the gig was invaded by a gang of skinheads - not a bunch of kids with buzz-cuts, but the real deal. Absolute bloodbath ensued. Not ashamed to say I’ve never been so bloody scared before or since.
The Rock Garden still stands and it’s still very rough. Tom was raised in the Boro, his Dad worked at the Port Authority. Funny enough had the same experience at the Highland Room, Blackpool watching the Buzzcocks. 14 of us went I was the only one after who had not been battered.

Pete Shelley at Zapherillis in Ambleside, just after the Buzzcocks split. Absolute garbage and got a deserved slating.

Extreme noise terror at the duchess in Leeds early 90s,me & another lad got talked into it by a mate, don’t know what he was thinking.😬

Went to watch the Who in Berlin - pissed down, the crowd were knob heads, they had overflowing problems with the toilets and so closed them and the sound system was wretched. Worst night ever! So much for the German's efficiency (btw - have seen The Who on half a dozen occasions and they are mint).
