I wonder what % of those stood in the South Paddock back then are still fans today; I was stood further to the top left of this.

Won't go into gambling details, I used to do the boosts at betfreds every Saturday morning. Had to move around shops & frequently spoke to Sam in the Kirkham branch. He even remembered my dad & mum who'd set up an appeal fund around 83/84.Often overlooked but not forgotten in terms of importance, today's 1986-87 pen picture is Sam Ellis.
Not a player-manager, but judging by this rare snap he was thinking about a comeback, perhaps?!
'Sam Ellis' Tangerine Army' still rings in my head, and it was often relentless at some matches. What a role he played in getting us off the floor....View attachment 15478

Fred Pickering 2 , Ronnie Brown were the scorers. Attendance 22162 . I think from memory the Albion goalkeeper John OsborneTried searching for stats on that game, other than 3-1 to Pool (home wins rare that season) nothing else, scorers, attendance etc?

As a ten year old I thought we were doing well: 0-0 against Liverpool, 3-1 against West Brom. Oh the naivety of youthYes.
Yep , we started the season quite well winning at Newcastle soon after beating WBA. We fell away badly after that notAs a ten year old I thought we were doing well: 0-0 against Liverpool, 3-1 against West Brom. Oh the naivety of youth
Cheers Fess always respect your accurate replies. 22k was a decent attendance. I was about 8yrs old that season & my dad used to sneak me into the old South stand. Got very real horrible recognitions of that Chelsea gameFred Pickering 2 , Ronnie Brown were the scorers. Attendance 22162 . I think from memory the Albion goalkeeper John Osborne
was injured during the game.
Thank you. I played on Saturdays at that time so missed quite lot of games that season including the Chelsea game I'm pleased to say!Cheers Fess always respect your accurate replies. 22k was a decent attendance. Fortunately, my abiding memory of the Chelsea game was Pickering's cheeky backheeled (3rd?) goal.Cheers Fess always respect your accurate replies. 22k was a decent attendance. Part of our history.
Ps. and slightly O/T but as I was trying to find an old picture of Raikes Hall stadium I somehow stumbled upon New Brighton (Wirral) Tower. In my 30-odd years I have never known about this now demolished rival to Blackpool's tower until today!
First time a game preview made the front page of the Daily Mirror on the morning of the gameThe Tony Green game FA Cup

Good quiz question. In the 1948 FA Cup final, the team in blue shirts and white shorts beat the team in white shirts and black shorts. Who beat who?
Never seen a colour pic of that match before & wonder why both teams wore change kits back then?Good quiz question. In the 1948 FA Cup final, the team in blue shirts and white shorts beat the team in white shirts and black shorts. Who beat who?

Would have thought a toss of a coin to decide who changes. Wonder how it was decided we should change vs Cardiff 2010?The FA ordered united to play in blue to make it fair for both teams
Think we offered to play in white as it was going to be hot. Not like blue and tangerine clash.Would have thought a toss of a coin to decide who changes. Wonder how it was decided we should change vs Cardiff 2010?
Ta, I didn't know that. The FA ordered united to play in blue to make it fair for both teams
Yes but in 2012 we were aiming to blend in with the snow.I think it's more a case of white vs blue is a clearer difference than tangerine vs blue so the 1st option is easier on the eye.
We played in white away at Cardiff in the 3-1 win and that was February 2012.

Yes, you're right. In this age of UHD TVs, they are still considering the contrast for those watching in black and white.I think it's more a case of white vs blue is a clearer difference than tangerine vs blue so the 1st option is easier on the eye.

That photo has surely been colourised using photo shop. I'm sure the Pool goalie wouldn't have got away with wearing blueNever seen a colour pic of that match before & wonder why both teams wore change kits back then?
After King Alan this is my next favourite Pool player.Mark Taylor..what an underrated finisher he was.
He arrived unheralded and soon established himself as a surprisingly prolific goalscorer before injury cruelly affected his game. Two away games will always stand out for me; a 3-1 win at Middlesborough when he got a brilliant glancing header, and then away at Sealand Road when he lobbed their keeper to seal a 4-1 victory.
There's no footage of those goals, sadly, but in some ways that's what makes them so special.View attachment 15449
