Ollie Norburn

Posh fans saying he’s quality - they’ve just payed 350k for him and one of their best players this season… CM

He's Peterborough captain apparently and only signed in the summer. Why would they sell him?

Agree only went to Posh in August 21 on a 3 year deal (undisclosed fee) and only recently made captain in Dec 21.
Why would they want rid if the rumours are true of course?

Nixon usually right - whether we actually manage a deal tho is another matter…

Maybe Fuchs signing for them opens the door for his departure more, as sounds a similar type & he’s a northern lad.. guess time will tell.

Sale to facilitate purchases elsewhere in the team to stave off relegation or cash in at max before the vultures descend in the summer?

He possibly hasn’t settled there despite playing a fair few games. Who knows.

I thought we’d move for a bit more of a creative midfielder over a solid type.

Yeh plays internationally for Grenada as well so we could be back in the Kevin Stewart scenario for missing game time with us and look at how well that’s gone down recently. 😳

Played very deep at Bloomfield, many of those passes were to defenders, but did look comfortable on the ball and isn’t afraid of a tackle.
On that evidence not the attacking midfielder that many were hoping for.

He has also played for Shrewsbury and Macclesfield so he is almost Crewe Alexandra 🙂
Maybe they all play in the same card school somewhere in deepest darkest South Cheshire /North Shropshire?
PS on the cards front, looks like the Posh chairman has a different view to Simon S when it comes to playing cards next to your chest 😂

I feel like we're starting to take the piss a bit really.

We're wanting to sign players for 60-75 percent of their market value.
Really tight budget, but I agree this isn’t a great look, if what MacAnthony says is right.

I'm not sure why we think they would sell their captain who been playing well since he arrived a few months ago.

It looks like we aren't getting anywhere with existing negotiations for midfield players. Why else would we put a random badly judged bid like this in?

Are we sure Koko isn’t back in the building heading our negotiating team? 🤔

Hit the loan market then. Grab a CM from Liverpool/Arsenal/Villa/City/United and save the money for another day.

We can see if Virtue can hack it towards the end of the season. We aren't going down and we aren't going up.
Agreed, I get the feeling they might want to move away from an abundance of loan players to literally 1 or 2 as I think we’ve not had the best experience with our loan players since Sadler took over. But I agree in this situation pick up a decent loan.

I think we’re around the million pound mark for budget this window. Probably not enough to get someone like Norburn or Branagan but might cover a very good loan player till the summer.

1 million is around 10x the budget we've pretty much ever had at this level or League One level.

Some day soon we're going to have to sell someone for 3-5 million so we can reinvest across the squad. I'm happy with the way we're going and the types of players we're going for.

We're testing the resolve of some clubs to see what we can do. No different to Blackburn in the summer and Forest in this window.

The good thing is we're not being taken for mugs like before and the bad news is that clubs know we're willing to spend money now.

Yep agree with all that.

I just don’t think around about a million gets you a solid, stable, resalable asset in the championship these days. Or if it did it would require months of scouting a research from leagues 1&2. A position I don’t think we’re at with some of these targets.

Interesting to see what the club do in the next few days because we definitely need someone in central midfield, they don’t rate Ward, Virtue or Stewart as featuring much this season and we can’t keep Connolly there for a prolonged period.

There's quite a few very good players in the Championship who cost around a million.

We probably opened negotiations, said we'd pay them the 350k they spent on him in the Summer, so that when they get relegated they won't lose him for even cheaper.

Can’t see how this fits the profile of players we should really be bringing in to develop players and sell on at a profit. He’s only going to lose value and is likely going to cost a premium as he’s a player who may well keep Peterborough up. Can’t see it happening. Can’t understand why it would even be true.

Sounds like we're getting desperate though, don't mind not getting a CM this window when there will be more options in the Summer and this squad is already more than capable of staying up. 👍

Not taking the piss at all.

If you read the tweet of the Posh chairman it said that the other championship club offered what Posh had paid.
So not 60-75% of their market value at all.

Why would you sell your captain, who's proving himself at a higher level, for the same value as you bought him for? Makes zero sense and it's taking the piss offering the same.

A few were in mind when I read your post. Hamer and O'Hare at Cov, Piroe and Gyokeres. Rijs Jacobsen.

There's bloody loads tbh.
So we need central midfielders at around a million quid.

O’Hare and Piroe would sell for well in excess of that in this window. If you mean we could sign similar levels of ability, I agree they’re out there but I think we re at panic stations abit now and haven’t the time to develop proper reports on potential players.

Gyokeres and Riis both I think went for over a million last summer and are strikers.

Jacobsen at Wycombe? Always thought he was a wing back.
