So says the Yummy Doctor, but there again she doesn't believe in measles or chickenpox either. It won’t affect the unvaccinated according to the anti-vaxxers as it doesn’t exist apparently?

Illogical measures are a consequence of having a populist PM. He'll do and say anything to keep people happy. The point is / was that nobody knows how serious or how bad Omicron is.
We have taken (for once) some pre-emptive action, but like everything with Johnson, he is trying to please everybody so we end up with these illogical half-measures. For instance, don't travel to work but do go to an xmas party - it is crazy. My workplace have just cancelled all xmas parties, this is the correct thing to do IMO.
As things move forward, more information will become available and policy and measures can be changed accordingly. I've always been fairly easy going and these small things that we have been asked to do are minor sacrifices (wear a mask, get vaccinated, social distance etc). This period will end one day and we will find a way of living with the virus. Omicron could be the beginning of the end of the pandemic but ATM it is too early to tell, hence the restrictions.
Thinking it was from the unvaccinated person is just a hunch by the sounds of it. This divide and rule must stop, if you've been vaccinated (as I have) that's great but let's stop blaming non vaccinated folk as its not right, last time I checked other vaccines eg measles protects you and who gives a toss about others.I’m negative, thankfully.
But it’s almost certain the virus was brought into my office by the one unvaccinated person in the room and the facts are that if if you aren’t vaccinated you are more infectious.
As a result a few of my vaccinated friends and colleagues have had a really sh*t week of it having caught it from this person.
I don’t think the vaccine should be mandatory, but if you decide not to have it, know that it really is others you are affecting too.
All around me caught it last week. We have decided I am a medical marvel, or I really did have it early last year before testing and all that.
Hope it’s the latter and I’m done with it.
They were the first person in the room with symptoms, by a few days. So more than a hunch unfortunately. And the science does say the non vaccinated are more infectious.Thinking it was from the unvaccinated person is just a hunch by the sounds of it. Calm down dear. Scaremongering is exactly the right word to describe new restrictions being imposed and a deluge of panicky headlines for a new variant that all evidence (so far) suggests is less dangerous. The 1st role of a govt is to protect its citizens. I'm ** sick of this word scaremongering, whether it be aimed at brexit or covid, its childish deflection from adult issues, it's the perfect phrase for a dumbed down society.
It's still unproven though. I'm vaccinated and just had the booster. I'm not too fussed if others hadn't had it as long as the vaccine does what it's supposed to do.They were the first person in the room with symptoms, by a few days. So more than a hunch unfortunately. And the science does say the non vaccinated are more infectious.
I’m not saying that everyone should be vaccinated, I know it’s an individual choice. But I’m not about denying that it makes a diffetence to yourself and others, because it does. And we shouldn’t be afraid to acknowledge that for fear of upsetting anyone.
It may be less dangerous, the jury is still out on that. The R rate is 4 5 which is far more transmissible and has an ability to bypass vaccines. I'm sure that most people can see the issue, if it turns out to be a wet lettuce that great but to brand it as scaremongering is just a bland catchphrase.Calm down dear. Scaremongering is exactly the right word to describe new restrictions being imposed and a deluge of panicky headlines for a new variant that all evidence (so far) suggests is less dangerous.
This is the truth about the virus.
Scaremongering is absolutely the right word.
With regards to the GB News clips posted above, I agree with much of the content, but not all of it.
However, what’s striking is you don’t see anything like that on sky or bbc news. Instead you get the ones who have been vetted and who agree to hold the party line. It’s completely one-dimensional biased brainwashing.
If anyone does slip through the net, they’re quickly taken off air. As with the epidemiology statistician from st.Andrews university that was giving a critique of plan B when it was initially drawn up. All was going swimmingly well until she said statistically there was no difference with infection rates between masked and unmasked populations. The presenter challenged this saying surely that’s not right as otherwise ‘why would mask wearing be part of plan B?’ - to which she replied that she was just stating what the statistics showed. I could almost hear the producer in the presenters earphone saying ‘oh my god - get this woman off NOW!’, as he calmly said ‘thanks we’ll have to leave it there’. This statistician hasn’t been seen since. For now it’s just her tv career that’s been blighted. But if it were China she’d perhaps be disappeared. That’s the direction we’re headed too. No room for any dissenting voices. They’re branded crackpots or idiots and cancelled. We’ve seen news/chat shows where panels of 4 or 5 have pounced on anyone who has had the audacity to question something Covid related. Pounced on. Bullied. Ridiculed. And cancelled.
That’s sadly why too many have fallen into group think syndrome. They’re almost labotomised with after two years of being fed the same scaremongering and the drastically exaggerated figures.
We could see 25,000 or 1 million or 10 million or five zillion quintillion by tomorrow. A tsunami. Armageddon. It’s the end of the world as we know it.
I'm not an anti vax nor covid denier, had both jabs and took it all too seriously at first and my opinion has altered over time, plus once jabbed it all changed anyway as we all got the protection that should last for serious disease according to many studies. You know what strikes me?
The greatest scientific minds the country, doctors, professors, etc, they all say "we don't know", but the anti-vax Covid deniers know everything.
Here's a thought: maybe you don't know either.
Yep, at least on there you hear all sides, they have people on who support the measures but also people who see though it.Scaremongering is absolutely the right word.

I watch GMB and others if the content is worth watching and then can make our own minds up.
But I have to say I'm in much agreement with the content above now.
About cancelling from mainstream media and programmes heres just another example of not getting the answer they wanted.
You do know this is people already in hospital who have simply tested positive? We cannot just wish this away.
The first Omicron cases have now arrived in UK hospitals despite what the experts on this thread are saying;
First people in UK hospitalised with Omicron variant | ITV News
Nadhim Zahawi confirmed the admissions while warning that the variant is "so infectious that it will continue to dominate and exponentially grow". | ITV National Newswww.itv.com
Omicron cases doubling in the UK every 2.4 days.
Some of their minds will change as this goes on, thats my prediction as the evidence becomes clear. Obviously the government, opposition and media are powerful and may not concede they were wrong which makes anyone arguing the opposite case a crackpot in their eyes. But I think as has already happened people realise this cannot go on.Look its never going to change, you have the paranoid (scared ) believers and and the non believers ( past caring ). Both sides will continue to argue their cases, but nothing will change and nobody is going to change the others minds.
I see the German police walking about with 2meter measuring sticks yesterdaySome of their minds will change as this goes on, thats my prediction as the evidence becomes clear. Are you referring to this which I found on a BBC article or some other evidence? You do know this is people already in hospital who have simply tested positive?
It’s classic media scaremongering like this that’s the problem and that people struggle to see through.
Nope I'm not having that, don't believe them, they're lying, it can't not be terrifying.
But in all seriousness there it is, come on all you restriction nutters who actually want a two tiered society, explain why it's necessary and is our government incompetent or is something else going on?
Does it matter who posts the data they get from other sources like lbc, channel 4 and the spectator doomsday sage modelling. All hail Essex publican Alex Brooks. If only Jade Goody was alive to offer her pearls of wisdom I'd love to know what Joey Essex and Arge think.
Similar for me - except I try to keep 1m+ away from everyone as your friends/neighbours/relatives are just as likely as "strangers" to have covidI’m getting on with my life and I certainly don’t want anymore lockdowns.
I’m still taking sensible precautions though, the mask is back on in shops and Im keeping my distance from crowds and 1 metre from strangers where possible.
You can sit somewhere in the middle, not being hysterical, but still being mindful.
It’s not his pearl of wisdom it’s from the SA doctor who discovered the new variant. Is that a reputable enough source for youAll hail Essex publican Alex Brooks. If only Jade Goody was alive to offer her pearls of wisdom I'd love to know what Joey Essex and Arge think.

Oh he's called Adam that makes all the difference....It’s not his pearl of wisdom it’s from the SA doctor who discovered the new variant. Is that a reputable enough source for you
Oh and he’s called Adam.
Why are you focusing on Adam? It’s very strange. Your focus should be on what the SA Doctor said in the video which is pleasing news is it not? Who tweets it is irrelevant. And I've just listened to the South African doctor. Covid in general is classed as a mild disease, it still hospitalises a lot of people and generally they weak and vulnerable are prone to death. Omicron may be milder but the transmission rate is very high meaning it can still cause havoc. But let's all get behind Adam the Essex publican.
I've heard what the doctor said and commented. One of the above threads has Adam retweeting Steve ** Baker FFS I've just spat my brew out laughing. Credibility zeroWhy are you focusing on Adam? But no, you focus on Adam the Essex publican.
Jesus a retweet?! Wasn’t worth wasting a brew over.I've heard what the doctor said and commented. One of the above threads has Adam retweeting Steve ** Baker FFS I've just spat my brew out laughing. Credibility zero
It's a well know fact, apparently, that if anyone who isn't an expert retweets good information from a good source, that instantly becomes useless information.Jesus a retweet?! Wasn’t worth wasting a brew over.
The modelling is clealry a load of worst case crap.It does feel like we are back in the summer when the Govt removed the tier restrictions and all the predictions from Sage were for 200k per day cases and mass genocide.
We had the same arguments on here with some saying let’s go and others wanting Boris tried as a war criminal.
Result was nothing happened.
Then it was because it was summer and Sept would be the apocalypse as kids went back to school.
Result was nothing happened.
We now seem to be back there again. Same debate, probably same outcome.
Agree about the contradictory messaging etc.The problem with all this is that the government are trying to keep the pressure off the NHS without making it obvious that years and years of underinvestment, a big lack of staff post-Brexit and a lot wasted of money (Nightingale hospitals anyone...?) are the fundamental reasons why the NHS is under pressure anyway.
The narrative that the country is being ruled through fear is nonsense. It's about keeping ICU beds free of people who have a preventable virus so those who keel over with an unexpected issue can be treated.
The problem with the above though, is that messages have become so daft (like mask on to walk in the pub. mask off to sit in the pub. mask on to go to the bog) that it's impossible to trust anyone.
Can you explain why they want 'the unprecedented powers'? The damage this has done to the UK economy will be felt for years. Even the bunch of jokers in charge aren't stupid enough to think it's worthwhile for some dystopian myth around Big Brother style surveillance or whatever.Agree about the contradictory messaging etc.
However, they clearly have used fear, yo great effect and the media have played a huge part.
Fear has been one of their main tools for compliance with often questionable rules.
Fear allows them to claim and keep the unprecedented powers they now have.
It's been massively used.
