One to keep an eye on…

To be honest, the very last thing I'd concern myself with about a player is their sexuality, though it'#s clearly still a big issue for some.

It seems ridiculous in 2022 that this is something that a player feels that he needs to publicly 'declare' or that we live in a world where people still feel the need to 'come out' for something as normal as being homosexual.

That's not to dismiss that the young man is extremely brave and that society and football won't benefit as a result, I just think it's a shame that we haven't reached a stage where this should be necessary. As a hetrosexual male I don't feel any pressure to inform anyone about my sexuality and that should be the same for everyone.

It’ll be interesting to see the reaction of opposition fans. Remember Gareth Thomas, welsh rugby player, coming out and he was applauded, sadly I doubt that will happen with a section of football fans.

He, might feel that he needs to come out just so he can be himself, instead of hiding and pretending to be someone he isn’t . By coming out he may feel the pressure is off and he can go on to fullfill his potential and his dreams.

Yep… I’m not being judgmental of his decision. I just think it’s sad that society hasn’t moved on sufficiently for him to feel it’s necessary.

Hopefully it wil have a positive impact and help other footballers to feel more confident about who they are 👍

I saw this and my initial thought was right OK and..... That's not me being dismissive as I'm sure its been tough for him but it's just a pity that so many people in society concern themselves with what other people are doing when what they should do is just mind their business and crack on with there own lives. Good luck to the lad but as has been said it's a shame that this is still such an issue for some folk when there's really no reason for it being.

Why, making a big deal out of it only draws unnecessary attention. If hes gay hes gay. Get on with it.

He's bound to attract lots of negative comments and "banter" (which is what the neanderthals will call it, when it's downright abuse, not remotely funny and entirely unacceptable), but hopefully the football "family" will support him and will encourage other players to feel better about "coming out".

Just writing this makes my blood boil to think about having to write this and come across as patronising any young person for needing support, or having to "come out" .it's nobody's business and bloody ridiculous.

Every credit to him though because there WILL be negativity aimed at him but hopefully it'll be a big stride in the right direction so that in time it won't even be an issue for him and other players. Hopefully it creates the opportunity for people to go about their lives freely and without being judged by utter nobheads

Right OK is exactly the response we should all be giving g to this lad, it doesn't matter one iota, what this man's sexual preferences are as long as he can kick a ball. In fact if he can cross a bloody ball get him signed up!

What's to look out for? It should be standard practice and he shouldn't feel the need to "come out"
Of course it should, but it’s 2022 and we still have exactly zero out footballers in the country, so clearly we aren’t in that position yet.

The only reason I posted it was because I thought it would be particularly newsworthy for Blackpool fans.

Why, is it a Blackpool player?

I’m not sure they actually need to do it these days, they just feel the need to do it because of their own hang ups/reasoning to keep it under wraps to date (usually kept secret on a personal and a professional for a long time).

Most couldn’t give a stuff either way. It’s a so what thing generally.

nobody cares!!! But I’ll tell you what pisses me off , football fans can chant all they want about unfounded allegations of who a particular players is having a sexual relationship with as long as it’s the opposite sex, gender whatever your supposed to call it nowadays , but let’s say you chant about a player having a relationship with someone of the same sex/ gender , you would be arrested 🙁

More likely a newspaper (or some snake in the grass like Vardy) has got hold of the story and threaten to out him.
Good luck to the lad. Good time to do it - it'll be forgotten by August. Anyone remember the pro cricketer that came out gay .. I don't.

Absolutely isn’t the case here. It’s very much the lads decision.

It shouldn't matter but unfortunately it does, and so it's important that gay footballers, provided they feel comfortable to do so, do indeed 'come out'.

Young gay men and boys understandably feel uncomfortable with much of the baggage football comes with and, as such, don't or aren't comfortable with pursuing it at a grassroots level for fear of criticism or abuse. It's a vile fact that troubles the game.

So having footballers come out as gay will help to turn the tide and give those young men and boys the confidence needed to pursue football (as a profession or as a fan).

As for that rag teasing it for likes - well, I can't say I'm surprised.

Why have my posts been removed for mentioning the Adidas boot deal?

This is a fact? Very strange.
