Only Bees injured

According to Critch in the Gazette...

Matthew Pennington was also missing for the Seasiders on Saturday afternoon. The defender was forced to miss a number of games after suffering a concussion in the Boxing Day defeat to Burton Albion, but was back on the bench for the midweek FA Cup tie.

"He was fine, he’s been back in training,” Critchley added.

"Kylian (Kouassi) has been back with the group as well, so there’s only really Jake Beesley who’s injured at the moment. They will just have to be patient at the moment because it’s a tough squad to get into nowadays. These players are going to be much better for this upcoming week of training.

"We’re in a good place injury wise and we’re finding form and momentum.”

The Blackpool boss also confirmed that Andy Lyons’ absence at the Memorial Stadium was due to rotation following his contribution against Forest on Wednesday night.

do i fully buy into some of this stuff Critchley is saying? No not really. Squad rotation! Doesn't seem to include Hamilton and maybe one or two others.
Agree, but rotation will never be equal. You wouldn't expect Rhodes to get the same game time as Kouassi, etc. I think certain players should play more than they do, and others less. Critch perceives these players differently.

as we have a twenty odd players squad no doubt certain players WILL disappointed at being left out. And when they have picked up injuries it will take time. BUT we do have almost two teams. as most clubs will. i think we are in a really good place going forward. Wonder whether there will be any more incomings or outgoings.

he most certainly does. Hamilton is clearly his blue eyed boy yet i reckon most fans think that both Gabriel and Lyons are much better wing backs. In fact, those two are natural wing backs whereas Hamilton is really only a winger.

I suspect it’s down to a different approach. I recall a pre-season interview with Critchley saying they weren’t overworking the players in training as he “didn’t want them to be knackered by October”. This may have contributed to the slow start and the comparatively low number of injuries suffered.

All part of the Critchley masterplan and a barnstorming run to the play offs.
in the critchmeister we trust. mind you i did tell him to play double rook bombing down the flanks . six pawns across the middle . bishops sitting in front of a two knights and king back line. queen up top chasing knockdowns.

I guess some players are fitter than others and their recovery is quicker. Only the medical staff and coaches will know that.

Careful I might start another thread
CJ or Gabriel. 😁 ;)

Experts on here questioning the logic of a professional football coach supported by a team of physios, sports scientists and medical professionals…

Worth remembering Lyons is a young lad who’s only been a professional athlete training with professional resources and facilities for a year or two, whereas someone like CJ has been a pro athlete with those same resources and facilities for over a decade. There’ll be a huge variation in what each players body can and can’t handle and that’s before you even begin to take into account the specific and individual medical histories of each.

So Lyons can only play occasionally cos he's only been a full time pro for a year? Sounds odd to me that tbh.

worth remembering too that Lyons has already missed a large part of the season through various reasons. i'd suggest in order to get him fully match fit then rather than omit from the squad for rotation reasons he needs to be in the squad in order for him to try and get up to match speed. Otherwise how else can he do it? After all, he's hardly been overworked this season.

Just perhaps it's not about rotation at all and that it's more about players who he prefers.

CJ’s clearly favoured by critch and one of the first names on his team sheet hence why he is starting so many games. Lyons isn’t one of the favoured players at the moment so he’s been left out of the squad a few times because of the high competition in his position. Questions will be asked whoever is out of the squad due to the quality we have even though it may seem harsh on certain players at times.

It seems harsh on some players and not harsh at all on others. I'm now questioning Critch's judgement in a way I never did in his first spell.

yep, think that's a much better way of putting it. 👍

With virtually everybody fit the only positions where we are lscking are the left side of the back three and possibly centre midfield as Dougall seems to be on his way.
If we were to sign anyone this month hopefully it's a genuine left sided centre back to give Husband some cover/competition.

Fingers crossed that Joseph and Lavery stay fit. Lavery never seems to last long. Beesley the same. Rhodes has been overplayed. In luxury land I'd get another striker as well as a Dougall replacement and cover for Hubby.

I don't really think we need a replacement for Dougall, we have enough people in there who can do that job

I'm guessing rotation is done with a lot of data analysis, as is the modern way. The players wear monitors and will be reviewed ahead of a game. It's 100% the right thing to do, we can't moan about injuries and then question players being rested/rotated. That is something between Critchley and the physio team to decide upon.

That’s where the EFL trophy becomes handy.
We have Bolton to come next week and gives game time for some players.
Yes its a good way to keep ALL the squad gametime. every tom dick and harriet has a chance to impress. And what is to say we cxant get to the semi final. people call these competions but i am totally the opposite. I will be there next TUE with Steven. UNDER the floodies cant wait.

Especially since we went to 3-4-3 that's only 2 spots available not the previous 3.
Virtue,Carey,Connolly,Oakley-Booth as back up we'd need to ship one out to bring one in.

Speculation. The fact is, when we played a Premier League team in front of a national audience, he chose Lyons as part of what was, presumably, his best side.

My speculation is that the 130 minutes on Wednesday took more out of a player constantly travelling the full length of the pitch than we know.

Weird obsession with CJ and this idea that Critchley has favourites. Even if CJ is a favourite, he’s justified the amount of games he’s played so far this season.

Not sure about that. How come he rarely plays his best side then? 🤓

And will Lyons get in ahead of Coulson, CJ and Gabriel? Seems unlikely. He feels down the pecking order to me.

well said. Is there one person on here who thought that based on what we saw from Lyons last season that he wouldn't be a regular starter this? I doubt it. He's fit and raring to go, has been for a while, but somehow he doesn't seem to be trusted to get a run of starts especially in the league.

Critch has been known to change his team when coming up against better opposition. He probably started Gabriel and Lyons against forest for their defensive capabilities.

Get a midfielder in and ship Oakley-Booth out.
Played England U18 and spent youth at Tottenham.
Maybe ship he out on loan till end of season to L2 club, but think there is probably a decent player in there.
I remember posts castigating the Club for signing Charlton reject(Albie) on a free but he looks at moment a class act.

Beesley back out on the grass now aswell. Never known us have an almost fully fit squad in January. Normally ravaged with injuries last few seasons especially

If you watch regularly you will see how vital Hamilton is the Critchley’s team set up. Aside from his wing play his pace means he is the one we leave back from set pieces as nobody can outpace him. He does this brilliantly. Ok he makes mistakes but his overall contribution makes him a must pick.

Nobody else in the squad has the pace to cover like him.
