Ormerod Statue

Definitely not. Bret was a good player for us but he was also a bit of a journeyman and to me that doesn’t warrant a statue.
As for the comment about a stand being named after Billy Ayre, why?
A good manager yes, who was with us for just under 4 years and also managed 4 other clubs.
Statues and other accolades are meant to represent legends not every Tom, Dick or Harry.

I'd rather they name the east stand after King Billy and have a statue of him outside it tbh.
What is it with all this King nonsense. King Billy, King Kenny etc. There was only one King of Bloomfield Road and he played for us for 10 years and never even granted a testimonial.
I know they named a lounge after him but do we not think this legend deserves a statue at some point?

Bret is a Seaside hero however give Ormerod a statue then would have to recognise other such Blackpool greats as ........Micky Walsh, Alan Suddick, Tony Green, John Craven, John Burridge and obviously Stanley Matthews (know he's got one at Stoke, buy has any other player had an FA Cup final named after them).
That's just a few off the top of my head and surely loads more going onto our past rich history. Wouldn't be enough room around the ground for statues of all our past great players.

nah, far more worthy than Brett. We've enough statues anyway and the Armfield one cost basically 100k. Jeez, he was good for us but only scored one PL goal but in the grand scheme of things he was a very average player. Some-one who missed far more chances than he scored.

If they had a fans zone outside the ground you can line walls or barriers with printed images of some of our greatest players and those great moments.

I’d also limit it to more recent years (last 20 at best) as for most fans coming through and even my age - we don’t remember anything nor have seen those great names of the 80s or earlier.

Encourage the younger fans that may remember Wes, Charlie and even Simmo or at least heard their dad talk of them? They’re the ones that’ll secure our next generation of fans

Exactly! It’s ace that we’ve got all these legends from an England and major trophy history and we’ve got a couple of statues of that time.

But I grew up with the likes of this lad, big murph and simmo. I suppose everyone thinks their era is better or has more personal memories etc. bit disappointed with some replies it seems they’ve forgot where we were and where we got to the last 20 odd years.

Class idea about the fanzone. They kind of have it in the club shop but a chronological history board would be really cool.

The Hall Of Fame caters for our legends & Super Bret (who we all love) is certainly well deserving of his place in that (in addition to his named lounge).
The next step up, is having a stand named after a player & we only have currently have one.
Having a statue erected outside Bloomfield Road is reserved for the rare, elite players who have an exceptional place in our history.

Apparently we have three named stands, though two of the names are rarely used. From Wikipedia:

"The three permanent stands are named the Stan Mortensen North Stand (denoted by the acronym "B.F.C." spelled out in white seats, the Jimmy Armfield South Stand (with "ARMFIELD" spelled out in white seats) and the Sir Stanley Matthews West Stand (with one of the club's nicknames, "SEASIDERS", spelled out in white seats)."

I also learned from Wikipedia that Bloomfied Road, Blackpool, is "Not to be confused with Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, Israel."
Take care, Folks 😁

It’s not about how good he was for us it’s more about what he achieved with us.Scoring in every division of English football for one club and fittingly scoring the goal that secured the clubs promotion back to the top tier in decades.

For me I wouldn’t roll out any statues just yet as I feel those should be reserved for more historic legends like Stan and Morty but @Chunkylad makes a very good point above about engaging younger fans, the next generation with more recent legends.

A nice new shiny supporters bar in the new East stand with Brett’s name above the door might cover both the points above and might even resonate with younger fans more than a traditional statue.

A club board game: Find the cash, A bit of a mix between snakes and ladders, Cluedo and monopoly. Oyston chance cards such, nematodes in the pitch go back 10 spaces, no hot water in the showers go back five spaces, pre let's sold, advance 5 spaces and all the other players go back to the start, could be a winner, temporary stand has holes in the floor etc etc.

And the new East Stand should be the Alan Ball East stand.
