OT - CCTV needed for my home...

Two hooded lads in my garden and at the back of the house last night, scampered when I made a racket.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced CCTV system that I can put in myself, couple of cameras etc to catch them in the act. Any help would be appreciated. UTMP

the ARLO cameras are really good quality for not a lot of cash, recording back to the cloud so no arseing around in your loft either. I have the floodlight options too so as soon as someone steps on the land at the front it illuminates and scares them off.

I've used yi/kami cameras for years. They're very cheap. You can put an SD card in them so no monthly cost, access from phone or PC. Night vision is passable, depending on the ambient light around. Happy to advise/setup.
I currently have one over my garage and another one pointing out of an upstairs window.

I have a 4 camera eufy system wasn't all that expensive, it's wireless and you get a box that records everything for free.

Reolink stuff good too, have 2 with solar panels at work covering gateway where there is no electric and sends notifications, voice warnings etc

I've got ring for my front door which is ace.. defo would recommend (and come in handy already). Work mate has that and 4 other ring cameras... no idea on price etc but she raves about them

Is old links behind your house ?

Search for a sound archive of a 12 bore shotgun being fired then play it through loudspeakers at regular intervals. It may annoy the neighbours but consider that a bonus if they are twunts.

Ring Floodlight Cam or Spotlight Cam should do the trick. Cheaper than CCTV, just needs wiring in and you can monitor on an app. It’s a camera/movement light in one. Worth the price IMO.

I’m on “Ring” system too. Bought one for the front door but have also added a camera later to cover the back door. All for less than £200….at the time (2yrs ago). Not to hard to register on line either.

Thinking about a ring floodlight/ camera that needs hard wiring. As I’m useless at diy, can anyone recommend anyone to fit it for me ?

What's the point of these things? Has anyone ever managed to get a conviction following a crime?
Yes. The burglar broke into a property on Harrington Ave, behind us. He decided to escape by going over the back garden wall and down my neighbour’s driveway. On chance, the best mate of the ‘burgled’ couple called round at mine and my neighbour. We both checked our Ring activations. Lo and behold, the burglar, laptop under arm turned to look at my neighbour’s front door, giving a full frontal face image. This was given to the police, who circulated it and an officer in Bispham identified him.
Career burglar admitted it straight away. He wanted to go back to Durham prison!
Three years sentence. (Admitted several others.)

If the cctv cameras are wireless how do the batteries get charged? Do they last a long time or do you have to take them out every so often and recharge them ??
The ‘ring’ system tells you in plenty of time that you ought to recharge the battery. I put it on charge on an evening when I’m in, watching tv.

On the wireless cameras we have in the hotel they connect to your WiFi and they’re seated on a magnetic ball so you can put them anywhere you want them. They are rechargeable batteries and yeah they last quite a while and you can turn them on or off whenever you want and they can also be connected to your phone so if your out and about you can watch as you go

Just put a copy of your profile pic up on your outside areas. You won’t be bothered anymore .
