Out of contract

Which players are out of contract in the summer? Guessing a fair few will be at the end of one year extensions from the end of last season, wonder who stays and who goes...

Would like big Marv to stay, really not sure about Hubby, at best a back-up squad player. Problem is NC will play him most games and that will mean a defensive, negative approach as we could do much better with a back 4 with proper fullbacks. As for the rest they can leave, sorry but we need to progress and they have had their chance.

The way Critchley was talking after the game about the plans for next season it sounds like the club aren't too bothered about any of the out of contract players leaving

He also said he’s the man to take the club forward, I think he’s in a minority of one with that opinion. Sorry that minority should be two, Sadler is of the same opinion.

O Donnell is decent backup and will not cost much in wages. He really enjoyed his moment in penalty shoot out against Bolton and seems to be very much a team player.
Having 2 very good keepers just causes friction.
Not sure on any of the others, some the ball is in their court, but none are essential

I'm not arsed about any of the out of contract players and I'd let them all go.
Out of the loans we will prob get Rhodes on a free but the rest, can't see it at all.

As everyone seems to think 2 yard box Danny will move, would you fancy him as a first choice?

Lyons, Hamilton, Thompson, Casey, Pennington, Norburn, Carey, Morgan, Beesley, Joseph, Kouassi, Apter.

Purely off the top of my head (so might have missed some) these are the players who we might have left assuming we lose Grimshaw and Gabriel on top of those who are out of contract, and if we don’t get to sign any of the loan players.
That leaves 10 squad places (plus goalkeepers who don’t count) to fill.

I don’t know but there might be one or two academy players who have now also got to an age where they will add to to the squad numbers if Critchley wants to add them (also not sure if Apter counts as one) ?

Looks like a “challenge and an opportunity’ for the recruitment team.

Definitely only interested in keeping Ekpiteta and Husband. The rest are not up to standard and with thanks can go bye bye

I think Marv, Hubby, Virtue and Lavery will all choose to leave and we won't keep Connolly.

I think we will lose Grimshaw, Gabriel and Norburn to other clubs for a fee so that would leave us with a squad of 11 players including Thompson and Apter but excludes keepers. That would mean at least 10 new players to make the squad up, more because some will go out on loan so it's hardly been great recruitment over the past couple of years.

..not to mention the young players that the Messiah Critchley has brought on with the skills he brought from Liverpool.

Sadlers algorithm has well and truly been fecked

There's too much analytical, statistical bollocks and no heart or personality. There is no reason why you can't have both but we only have one and it's not very good either.

Absolutely Herts...didnt see Thommo drooling over an iPad when Ollie was Manager it was a mixture of Managerial nous and passion which our present incumbent has neither..

edit to add, although Ollie's missus was known to pick transfer targets on iPads 🤪

I love it when it gets into the back end of June and you’re getting a taste for the new season.
Speculation on players, then signings, then pre season.

I wouldn’t lose sleep about any or all of them going to be honest. It doesn’t really matter who stays and who goes as long as Critchley keeps playing this bl**dy awful system that suits none of them. If he signed Haaland he’d have him as inverted wing back!

Don't you think that leadership, heart and passion is as much down to the players as well? And that it would be easier if we had actually scored the chances we make and energise the crowd by doing so? Our quality, passing, defending and finishing on the pitch has been dire at times and sometimes brilliant at others. Our lack of consistency has been primarily down to not enough quality in the squad.

James Husband cannot play as the left sided CB. He is fine at LB, where he has a touch line on one side, but not more centrally. He drifted off his man to give Reading their equaliser, and he is often exposed in a foot race. He’s still a decent player, but not in the middle. Pool need to look for a left sided CB if we are to continue with a back three.

I don't think there's a lot of heart about the place full stop at the moment.
