Overreactions

Tough not to overreact on nights like tonight but we will get them from time to time this year. Nature of the beast that is the Championship.

Two major areas of concern for me.

1. Goalkeeper. Their 2nd tonight killed us. Too small? Too weak? Answer is probably yes to both questions. Championship defences packed with big lads are likely to target that and with good delivery we are likely to be killed regularly.

2. Just general attacking play. 1 goal in 4 games at home is so poor. Bad decision making is costing us time and time again. Examples include TJJ not slotting Lavery in tonight which coincidentally led to their first goal. Bowler not slotting in Anderson at the weekend.

On to Saturday I guess. The beauty of Sat Tues Sat. We get it to put it to bed.

I think we are seeing exactly why we were willing to spend a significant sum of money on Brannagan - a player that might link midfield and attack. That's a clear weakness for us, and evidently Critchley thinks so too, otherwise we wouldn't be going after players like him. I get that we shouldn't be held to ransom and pay over the odds, but I just hope our patience in getting in players for these key positions that we've obviously identified as a team weakness don't end up costing us. I don't think it will, but 'making do for now' is a definite risk.

1: Maxwell is one of the key reasons why we're here and why we've got any points at all this year. Get a big lump in goal and the header from the Fulham player goes in. Sides of a square. Keepers concede.

2: Yes, fair enough.

The TTJ run where he didn’t play the pass through was the turning point of the game. We had committed a lot of players forward with that attack. He had a few simple (ish) options to play the pass. If he plays one of the options instead of keeping on running and losing possession, then they don’t break and don’t score.

He was one of the better players for me last night and did well on Saturday - he will learn from that hopefully and next time will make the right decision.

I'd give Maxwell a solid 7.5-8 so far for the season, he's adapted well, wasn't his best game today but he's the same as any player, if he's back on form against Boro we'll forget about this game, 3-5 bad games in a row someone else may get a chance.

Natural that it hurts, for a day or two after a defeat like this I can't even look at other results, tables, don't watch the champions league highlights, took me 9 hours to even look at this board.

One game though, gotta put it out of our minds.

That felt like a painful and disappointing evening of humungous proportions but it is only one result. Just as the Fulham result was very positive. I’m sure Critch and the squad will learn and improve and hopefully we will see a better performance and result on Saturday. My highlight of the evening was on the way home passing a tangerine transit with the reg FC53 BFC.

Fair point re Maxwell. However, crosses are his weakness and it is a fair point that opponents who target that weakness are more likely to score goals.

Not for me. He neither creates, shoots or scores. A waste of a loan.

TTJ and Bowler both had 2 or 3 opportunities to square or pass in very good areas in this and the Fulham games.

Its frustrating to watch, none of them are Messi. They need a bollocking and they need to realise it is a team game or we will get no where

(this does not mean I dont rate them, I think they have contributed a lot so far, but its fine margins)

I didn't see the game last night; however, I'm surprised that Max has been so heavily criticised by the OP.
Max is one of the reasons we got promoted and he saved us from defeat in the last 15 mins against Fulham.
When we win all the players are brilliant, when we lose some are slated - that's unfortunately what some supporters do. - they look for scapegoats.
Max will make errors, even the international keepers do that, and it's up tp Banksy to coach out any weaknesses. Perhaps the defenders need to give him protection at corners?
In summary: Max is a fine keeper at this level, a leader and our club captain. He'll have many more good games than he will bad.
