Oxford United v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 20.03.21

Can the crichley haters not see how patience is starting to pay dividends ? Please back off and give him the time and space he needs to build something at this magnificent football club. If In another season or two we are still floundering and making the same mistakes then fine, but this guy could do something great here, just like Olly achieved. With SS backing a new training ground and the mighty Seasiders in full voice we can go places. Believe, #UTMP, feeling good tonight 🙌🏼🙏🏻🧡🍊

Good post Scara. Something I can't believe writing on the other forum.

They’ll be back in the first half on Tuesday when we’re not playing too well and 2 nil down only to turn it round in the 2nd half and win 9-2👍

I don’t believe there were many Critchley haters. Sceptics yes but not haters. And he has nailed how we need to play and how we want to play from the last game and a half and that’s the thing we all want....forward attacking football without conceding possession and goals.

Buzzing from today and Coach Critch has brought us to this point at hopefully just the right time.

Excellent, excellent, excellent performance and result against a team who have out-footballed us at home on more than one occasion in recent times.
H: Crewe, Wimbledon, Fleetwood, Burton DDDD
A:- Pompey, Charlton, MK D and Oxford. WWWW
As they say across the pond, "Go figure"

Yes, good to see he's stopped stifling creativity and allowed them to express themselves. Performances like today lift your spirits.

Fair play, that was a brilliant performance and result. Congratulations to the players...and to Critchley and staff.
That's definitely it now. I've somehow switched to a parallel universe where Blackpool attractively attack other teams off the park and an all smiles 62 jumps out of his seat hands a clapping, face wreathed in unbridled joy as he enthusiastically gives out generous praise to all within earshot.
Well done that man 🙌😁

shush, don't let other people know. 😆
If you take on board a few of the oily fish type foods then you should easily be able to produce a lovely shiny, slightly fishy, shite all of your very own.
Watch as it smoothly swooshes round the porcelain pan before scooting stylishly off to shiny shit heaven

Bit weird that

That's four times this strange season where we've won games at places I've never seen us win at.

Oxford United
Charlton
MK Don's
Burton Albion

Only one left I haven't seen us win at is Lincoln. Here's hoping.

Roll up and relive that little beauty! What a terrific game. 🧡
"Nothing comes of it other than a view of the (surprisingly active) car park behind the goal that leaves me wondering who is coming and going and how the game sounds to them."

I noticed that about the car park too. I think the commentator said that the car park is being used as a Covid vaccination centre quite apt given the AstraZeneca vaccine was developed at Oxford University.

It’s the only productive thing happening at that stadium this season

Ah! That explains hi vis jacket fella! Must have missed that in comma

And without Madine. Everybody been telling me we are lost without Madine. 🙂

I demand a mass apology! 🤣

So last game and half we have played some decent football whilst not conceding. I think switching to 5 in midfield (and ditching the 4-4-2) is the major contribution to that. The 2 wide midfielders have also been given more licence to roam (though Ward I think was instructed to stay wide yesterday to help Turton counter their left winger). 4-4-2 is still an option but should only be used when we want to go more direct.

Thought Yates had a good game yesterday and, on high balls, seemed to be getting his body between the defender and ball b. Better than he has done previously. Embleton plays the advanced central midfield role well - needs to get his shooting boots aligned and he will become a real threat.

Back four were solid, apart from Turton struggling with their winger in the first half, and Thorniley put in another good performance - certainly a good option if the opposition forward line likes pace.

Losing Ballard and Virtue is another blow. Suspect Ward will move inside with Dougal and Gabriel playing wide right though that will depend upon the scouting report on Pboro. Also pretty clear that our scouting of opposition is much improved and we have plans to counter their strengths and to exploit weaknesses. Not sure if the corner routines yesterday were due to Oxford weaknesses or its something that has been worked on as a general tactic. Will be intersting to see if we repeat on Tuesday.

Personally I think that the first half especially was the best we've played all season.
Fantastic understanding of where the next man was and usually found him with the pass.
Oxford were played off the park in that first half.
2nd half was not quite as good, but still we were better than Oxford.
Play like that for the rest of the season and we're up.

Agree, KaiKai, Embleton, Dougall, outstanding. The rest of the team also magic, fantastic work rate from everyone against a very good Oxford team who have a couple of top players.
Great game to watch.

That fish shit comment above has just brought me to tears laughing. The fact it has absolutely nothing to do with what it was replied to makes it all the more hilarious.

I often think about the old BFC chants, and always hope to be able to sing an appropriate one.
Yesterday, my favourite one WAS.
"I've never felt more like singing the blues,
When Blackpool win,
And Preston lose,
Wo-ooo-oo,
You've got me singing the blues."

Long may it continue.
