Oxford United v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 18.04.21

Yep. No reason on Friday they can't really stretch their legs and put on a show for the fans.
Simms said it was the first time he's played in front of a crowd
An early goal to settle it down and then a bit of a romp would be nice. Hope Sunderland enjoyed watching that tonight
Its not scumderland we need to worry about. Its lincoln

I'm just upset I can't be there Friday. Not the same listening on radio lancs. I was lucky enough to see all our play off promotions from league 2 up to the Premier. I think fuck covid and let us all in

Every message board needs a miserable bugger 😀 62 years seems relatively chilled nowadays so just filling the gap til he gets grumpy again.
Keep going mate, you keep the arguments going, we all need a pessimist to rally against!
🥳🥳🥳

Same here Rag, but at least we can feel slightly relaxed even if the players have to put in another shift but after tonight’s performance we should trust in the fact that this is not the Blackpool FC of old - according to Sky, we are now “Professional” at long last!

Some nice comments from the Oxford fans.

Snuck into the playoffs at the death, came up against a really good Blackpool team. We weren't as bad as the score reflected, we had chances, Henry and Sykes in particular, and didn't take them, but you have to give credit to Blackpool because they are a very good side and on the day they turned up and showed us why they finished where they did. I'm less upset losing 3-0 to Pool than I was losing to Wycombe because it's clear to see they are just better than we are.

I don't think any of us had really appreciated how good Blackpool are, I certainly hadn't, but they finished third for a reason. We had our chances, we gifted them the crucial first goal, on another day maybe the rub of the green is with us. But no shame in losing to them.

On Friday, Oxford know they have no choice but to take the game to us. Press them high up and don't give them the chance. Look for an early goal to take the wind out of their sails. Need another professional job and a whole team performance. I thought that our central midfield looked poor in the first half, particularly Stewart who was well off the pace. They came more into it second half, but I think we look better when Ward has been in there. Hope Garbutt is ok and he did not seem concerned after the match ended

Memphis is wondering how to shift the t-shirts that he had printed before the game

‘Now wasn’t the time to piss about and try and be clever.

Up the Pool’

p.s. whoever suggested singing ‘walking in a Critchley wonderland’ on Friday. Great shout 👍

Oxford fans were like a library, completely failed to use their home advantage. Our players are gonna be blown away when they finally find out what it’s like to play in front of Pool fans in the playoffs! Cannot wait
Exactly, our 1k were louder. Even just 4k will be loud because were so noisy and because they are perfectly spread, its like surround sound 😀

Although trying to be happily distracted by my daughter's 16th birthday, the nerves kicked in quite early.

I thought, as the Oxford fans have written above, we were just better than them tonight and won all the important battles.

So pleased to see us take more chances than we missed and I'm still surprised at watching a defensively solid Blackpool where we don't really like we are going to concede.

But It's still only half time; I want a repeat and to go into the final with another clean sheet and win.

All In all, that's as professional a play off semi final first leg as you'll see.

On to Friday.

Come on Blackpool!

I'm just a bit brassed off with the result tonight, because my prediction was only a
2-0 win.
BUT I SHALL GLADLY settle for 3-0.
Championship, you are next.
COME ON YOU MIGHTY POOL.

A very late entry to magnanimous comment of the season award. 👍

Can someone forward to Robinson please. 🥴

What a team we have, they don't seem to have any nerves, lost two bad games and now 5 on the bounce with no goals against, we make changes and everyone who comes in knows their job. Plus we work our arses off. A team that is right up there with our top teams of the past. And it's only one season with this coaching staff and players. COYP..............................

'That' play off game will haunt us forever but at the same time should keep us in check and mean we take nothing for granted. Every fan at Bloomfield Road needs to play an active role in getting us over the line. This group deserves non stop backing from first, to last whistle on Friday night.

Ellis is very grounded, his touch was unreal tonight. Compare that to 8-10 weeks ago, he's improved massively.

We've probably just made Everton a 3-4 million pound player there.
I think Everton made him and kindly lent him to us, albeit we have helped his development

He didn’t look like he was going to be clinical initially but that’s because we tried to play him as if he was Madine. As soon as we started playing him to cater for his strengths he’s been unbelievable.

I agree Chunky. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm a lot more nervous now than I was before I saw the lineup. I think although Oxford are down as 4-3-3, I think the reality is that they are going to overload the midfield so more of a 4-5-1. If so, the danger is that we get outnumbered in midfield and struggle to get our passing game going and control the game. History tells us this is when we find things difficult. Anyway, fingers crossed that I'm talking boll*x and that Critch knows best...
I'm so glad I was talking boll*x 🤣🤣🤣
