Pak v Eng T20

Gone a bit under the radar this one . . . first of quite a few T20 games v Pakistan.

Alex Hales and Ben Duckett both make their England come backs post Morgan and 3 Lancs players in the team (Wood, Salt & Gleeson).

Pakistan 125-4 with 4 overs left.

Luke Wood just taken his first international wicket
Bowled Nawaz with a great delivery
He's 1 for 16 off his 3 overs so far 👏 👏 👏

Gleeson 0 for 13 off 2, very tidy whilst Willey got hit for 41 off his 4 overs.

England have pulled this back, at one point it looked like we'd be chasing 180+. Should be an interesting chase...
Agree at one stage I thought we would be chasing 180/190 down so would take 158 any day of the week.
But then again we are England………..🥴

I'd still have them as favourites, 180+ would have been hugely in their favour. A decent start needed as they have some rapid quick bowlers.

🙄 whilst, nearer to home, an energy crisis threatens to drown millions in unaffordable debt and Truss wants to unleash even higher banker’s bonuses

even more surprising, queenie has hardly had time to settle in her little box and life, seemingly goes on …. Astonishing

at least they get them in the ground a little more quickly in Pakistan

A comfortable win in the end which sets up the 7 game series nicely. The atmosphere went from being vociferous to deathly quiet, you certainly know when Pakistan are behind in a game. 😂

Much as I loved all the success Morgan brought to white ball cricket for England, i think he went overboard on his treatment to Hales, sure punish the guy for letting the team down, but Hales has been the most destructive opening batsman in World cricket and deserved to be allowed back after he served his punishment, I'm sure if Morgan was still around he'd still be out of favour.

Tonight was another example of how good he is, with us having so many absentees at the moment he has the chance to push himself in to contention for the upcoming World Cup, and England are a better and stronger side for it.

Also good to see Luke Wood given his chance and taking it, he's been outstanding this season.

For me Hayles / Salt are a shoe in opening the batting in the World Cup. They are both utterly destructive. Alas we all know how this works and regardless of his appalling form the golden boy Jason Roy will be carted in to open before being dismissed early doors.

I think Roy needs a bit of time away . . . as has been mentioned many times Hales should have been back in before now and hopefully now gets a proper run in the white ball side. I agree about Salt and would also have him in my starting XI. Brook is also knocking on the door.

Would the best T20 team at the moment be - Buttler, Hales, Salt, Bairstow, Livingstone, Stokes, Brook + 4 bowlers (no idea who I'd pick?)

Batting wise in the short form we have an absolute wealth of talent which was commented on throughout the IPL.

Adam Lythe, Will Smeed and Adam Rossington could easily all slot into the opening positions too.

England v India women's ODI at 11am.

Bookies have England 1/2 and India 6/4. Whilst England scraped home 2-1 in the T20 series India absolutely wiped the floor with England in the first ODI. 6/4 on India is decent.

Roy and Malan when commentators mention their names I'm sure they get a bit firm? The snobbery is too much for sure. Morgan too has been given saint status among the elite. Now is the time to move on and possibly progress to an even better white ball team.

With that set of batters we must have a chance to win the World Cup, we just need to get the right set of bowlers in and we’re in business, for me play the ones in form and not dont just go off reputation, Luke Wood has just shown how important form is.

Agreed . . . . I really like Wood but like many others can also get knocked around the park a bit.

Gleeson is the same . . on his day unplayable but can also go for 10+ an over.

Wood, Mills, Jordan, etc. have also been the same. It's certainly a batters game.

Yes and I think that depending on the pitches, India have the edge due to their very skilled bowling attack, I reckon we can match them at batting no problem but they do have the advantage over us in the bowling department.

Duckett doing well so far, particularly with the sweep. England need to set 170+, it seems a slightly trickier wicket than the 1st T20.

Moeen Ali may well have worked wonders with the bat but he’s being knocked out of the ground here, 21 of his last over. 🙄

Paki cruising here 141/0 with still 6 overs still to go.

Let's put this in perpespective:
Babar Azam has just hit a century off 62 balls in T20.
Luke Wells smashed a century against the Racists off 65 balls in the County Championship.

Cricket will survive the Strauss-Sky report
