Passports, Masks to go…

The narrative changed pretty quickly from it being more lethal to being all about it infecting people who work in public service (mainly nhs) and due to isolation rules the knock on effect from a resource starved nhs.

Witty has always been captain gloom - faced with the best and worse scenario on a model he doesn’t take the middle ground.

I don't think the narrative was ever that it was more lethal, just that it was much more infectious and was able to bypass immunity.

Fortunately our very high level of Delta immunity is still offering good protection against the worst effects of Omicron, although without the new variant these people likely wouldn't have been infected at all.

The death rates are going up pretty sharply BTW, especially in over 60s, x4 in London since the start of December, although that may have just peaked, and the rest of the country is following.

I haven't ben able to get to a game since the first one in December, are passports a necessity for this week's match?

How do you feel as a teacher about the scrapping of masks? Does it bother you? Are you encouraged?

Once again the issue you have raised is the same issue as the NHS have suffered. Lack of resource where it’s really needed. There needs to be more capacity ‘slack’ in the system and less funds used in administration and consultancy
Only just noticed these replies - I've not stopped today due to staff shortage and more children off. All staff are vaccinated and the children are asymptomatic to having a runny nose/headache. It's ripping through school at the minute - most parents wouldn't be aware of it without testing the children. I'm all for getting on with it with this strain as it's clearly not a threat to the vast majority - the disruption is now more harmful.

As did my Mum. Nearly finished her off. It was already prevalent in all areas of the country by the turn of that year making all of the mitigation measures of the last two years completely pointless.

Back to the OP, we could've quite easily had one long unbroken spell of being 'open' without all of the angst, without the persistent need to tell everyone they're getting something good in three weeks time / sacked in three weeks time (behaviour dependant). The whole lot, not necessary. We could've all gone to Wembley last year and holidayed last summer. The NHS coped, the virus continues to virus. The End.

Interesting isn’t it that recently knighted Jonathon Van Tam leaves his Government Advisory post and Whitty and Vallence are nowhere to be seen as the man who had COVID and nearly died, and who recently went into isolation, even when he didn’t need to, as a close member of his family, reportedly his 6 week old daughter, succumbed to COVID announces the end, more or less, of all restrictions as the latest figures show 359 deaths.

The number of young & healthy people who say they will keep wearing them is shocking. Our government & media have broken so many people over the past couple of years. Thinking about investing in a private therapy business...
So many soft arsed nancies in our societies. What a limp wristed nation the UK has become.
