People who cover their windscreens when it's icy...

I’m old school and throw a cup of warm water on mine when needs must 😱
Not a great idea …….especially if your windscreen suddenly breaks up in several pieces.
As for Allez’s comment….what a ….please feel free to fill in what is appropriate.

Pretty sure my neighbours appreciate it that I don’t start scraping at 5.30 every morning and just remove my covering but hey ho…

I’m not a wakner whatever one of those are, perhaps it’s a new word I’ll have to check up when I’m extremely bored. Luke warm water straight from the can seems to work quite well unless it’s very cold.

be careful Lala it can crack the windscreen due to rapid temp changes,
seen it happen a couple of times on works vans
Knowing how some people treat works equipment it wouldn’t surprise me if it was straight from the kettle. Ah sod it it’s not mine.

I use one of those reflective silver sun/frost protectors. The kind you see all over Spain for owners to keep their car cool . It has a thermal cushion on the reverse side, you just tuck it into your doors . 30 seconds to put on , brilliant. £1.99 from Aldi

In the 1970's I had an A35 van with rear seats, and when it was frosty I used to put newspaper on the windscreen to save time in the morning. One night it was freezing and must has sleeted then frozen again. Result one A35 van with newpaper frozen to its windscrean. it took me ages to remove it.Lesson learnt, never done it since.

Ditto 👍

I've been doing it for 30 years and not a single crack, use warm water instead of hot.
Yep same, been doing it for ages, just lukewarm water all around. It's then melted or mostly gone.

Makes me laugh people scraping away or coming up with more creative methods when lukewarm water is readily available, because they've heard a scare story of it cracking from people using far too hot water.

All this cracking windscreens stuff.... some cars have instant heat, that doesn't crack windows, nor does putting the Defroster on the back window.

Except that the warm water can in turn freeze on the windscreen. A sheet on the windscreen overnight is the sensible answer.
Doesn't re freeze if you use enough, it can appear done and not be done if you only use a bit. It's the quickest and best way.

No issues ever.

Also, windscreen wipers.

Was around a mates house the other night and he put a cardboard sheet over my windscreen and it worked a treat, saving at least 5 minutes work and he’s not a wakner!

Went to do the grandsons school run (collect him park at daughters, then a nice mile walk across footy pitches) at 8am, it was minus 7, my car was encased in a bloody ice cube and the windscreen was frozen solid on the inside! I sat there like a tool, with the engine running for 15 mins while it defrosted. The inside of the car was dry when I parked it, so how do I stop that happening tomorrow?
Complete defrosting has to be done though, it's dangerous not to, and if your unlucky enough to be spotted by a cop, it'll cost you a fine and 3 PP's.
The footpaths were like a skating rink but thankfully we made it home with our hips intact 🧡

He’s probably the git who vandalised my home- there was a panel torn off our cardboard box last night on Skid Row!

Put warm water in the ice cube bags and wipe the frost off like you’re using a cloth. Takes seconds. You can thank me all tomorrow 😉

Depends where in New Zealand you are ,lived in Auckland for years but used to travel for work to Christchurch ,Invercargill to visit clients .
Very cold in winter ,snow blocking roads etc .

i remember a couple of cars i had when i was younger used to freeze up on the inside of the windscreen even with the heaters on full blast....
