Saddens us to have to write this but there has been a big increase in the amount of reported posts which contain personal insults and unnecessary comments or digs at other posters. We appreciate it is a world of divided opinion, and we welcome debate, but please remember to be courteous and respectful to other users and don't lower yourself to making posts containing insults which we will remove.

I always argue with 20's though...... even when I'm not!! 🤣

It's a balancing act. There have been some good, heated debates on the site over the last month or so and that is a good thing, but it does cross the line sometimes and certain posters can't help themselves. I use the ignore button, seems to be a good way of dealing with those who offer nothing.

Rational balanced debates are engaging and important, but i agree this can desend into personal insults. Take it over to twitter if you want to some good old fashioned mudslinging.

The posters reverting to personal insults are the ones who lack the ability to debate. If posters don't agree with others then point out why and give your reasons. Anyway Mods, you know who they are so ban them.

not sure about all that. I just feel I don't conform to the natural way of thinking for most people. I often come at things from a different angle. Said that before. There's another great poster who I reckon does the same. He's already commented on this thread.

While I don`t think you are referring to me I do think this board is for ALL fans opinions.I am happy to post praise or criticism as I believe appropriate and while you get some who tend to favour critical posts there are others like yourself who find it hard to accept criticism of the club whether appropriate or not which to me is equally unbalanced and therefore equally inappropriate.

I wasn't referring to you.
If the criticism is valid (let's use Critch's tinkering as an example) then there is a reasoned argument to be had. I doubt you'd find anyone who thought it was inappropriate to discuss it or something similar.
Calling everybody and everyone crap and proclaiming the sky is falling in every time we fail to smash opponents off the pitch is another matter altogether and one I will argue against.
So criticise away, myself and plenty of others will offer a reasoned response provided the criticism is reasoned too.
The people my post was aimed at is those who offer nothing whatsoever that could be considered reasoned.

The way I look at it is simple.... Football is an emotional game and people are emotional animals (some moreso than others).... In the heat of the moment people will get carried away with a win and seriously disappointed with a loss. Under those circumstances they may well vent their spleen and let rip at the manager, players or whoever.

So I don't get hung up about what people say, I don't get all judgemental about them having a different perspective to me... I'm not bothered whether they only come on to the forum once a week and have a pop at the manager, whether they spend most of their time in the politics section or whatever.... If someone is crossing the line with personal attacks or getting vindictive then that's a different matter.

If you struggle with other peoples opinions that differ to yours, then frankly it is YOU and not the other person, that is at issue.

Isn't the issue here that certain people are personally insulting others, as opposed to offering a different opinion?
There are (albeit a tiny minority) posters on here who start flinging insults and offering people out for straighteners, which whilst laughable is also something I can understand why people react to.

What a lazy O/P I'm on here every day and don't read hardly anything out of order how about doing your jobs and moderate if you don't like what been posted delete not just whole threads and when there are multiple threads on the same subject how about pulling them together.

Some people seem to just get het up by people who think differently to themselves..... That might result in personal insults, it might also result in attempts to shut a poster down or bullying (a good example would be the way in which people wil respond to catinstalbans).

If you are getting to the stage of offering people for a straightener, then it's probably time to go and find some help.

I don't tend to post much on the politics board, so I'm not overly familiar with his work, but I can appreciate the point you're making

As I've said before, I think the major issue the forum faces at the moment is racism. It's not many posters, but they flock to any thread that has a race angle and post some pretty insidious stuff. On the plus side, there are also group of posters who challenge them vigorously when they are out and about. But it can get rancorous and personal. Given the nature of the issues, that is no surprise.

On a related subject, the belief among some that we have left wing cadre that dominates things mystifies me a bit too. In just don't see it personally, and the fact that some posters take against demagoguery doesn't make them left wing per se. Not in my book, anyway.

I do think people are more opinionated than they used to be. I also think that people are more innately prejudiced - by which I mean biased - than they once were. I think that is a product of the explosion in social media. It is very easy these days to take your "news" exclusively from sources that tell you what you want to hear. Do that for long and you are going to get less open-minded, not more.

There is a certain amount of bullying - not much, but speaking from personal experience, it is not nice when you are on the receiving end. I'm thinking mainly of posters like Cat ; I think he/she can be irritating and one-dimensional. But he/she rarely breaks any board rules, as far as I can see.

There is also an issue around personal self-awareness, I feel. Some people don't realise what kind of persona they project, or don't care much if it rubs people up the wrong way. That also adds to acrimony, probably.

One last thing - whether the OP is "lazy" or not is hard to judge. It must have been prompted by something. I think it is ironic that that criticism is levelled by one of the posters I would say is part of the problem group. But that's just my opinion.

The mental health thread shows the forum - and us - at its/our best. There is plenty of decency and compassion about. It just tends to be harder to notice it amid all the noise and the nonsense.

Mods, serious suggestion. If you want to set a standard of no personal insults (will always be your subjective judgement as to what is acceptable banter/over the top) then introduce a sin bin (They can’t post) and bang a first offender in it for a fortnight, second offence a month, third offence banned.
I’m not saying you should do it btw but rather than removing posts, giving general warnings to all etc just concentrate on whoever it is you think is and get it sorted out

I genuinely don’t know who has been throwing personal insults around btw.....which posters is it?

That said, I'm not really sure we want to get to a point where "rubbing someone up the wrong way" is considered to be something of an issue. I think there's a point where people perhaps need to develop a bit of a backbone or we risk people actually losing interest in the site .... It's important not to forget that often it is being slightly 'wound up' or 'rubbed up the wrong way' that often motivates people to join or contribute to a discussion.

Sites like these survive on controversy and disagreement...It's important not to forget that.... Of course, there's a line, but be careful what you wish for....

Yep ,absolute utter garbage from him. I love it how he professes that he's up front and straight and his post is heavily loaded with sly digs at various people.
I generally don't get involved in the racism issues but he doesn't half like to play the racist comment. People having a different approach on how to deal with racism issues isn't necessarily racism in itself but people like to throw out the racism comments simply because people disagree with him on it. Same with Cat too. Another who endlessly plays the racist card. Think it was 1966 who's views are pretty left wing and I'm sure is fiercely anti- racism commented that he doesn't really see it appearing on here. Words to that effect anyway. And I agree with him.

I'm not pretending I'm perfect, I know quite well that I have enemies on here. I would also say that I don't respond the the vast majority of the abuse that I get. As I think you well know, as you are one of the very few who have ever defended me. 😀

The written word can be a tough one... Easy for people to get the wrong idea etc.. So I tend to make allowances wherever I can..

There's a fine line between stopping serious abuse, insults bullying and suppressing controversy and debate etc...

I do think the kind of "Playing the Man" approach that you and others are often subjected to is tiresome as is the ability for posters to hold real serious grudges over a prolonged period. I've had a bit of it, but alas, I'm not iconic enough to attract too much attention.... 😄

I also think the site does a reasonable job of self-moderating most of the time and generally speaking people will pull others up if they go too far... I know on occasion, you have been forced to kindly remind me that I have over-stepped the mark and generally speaking I respect that.

go read my other long post. I know I'm far from squeaky clean. I wouldn't want to be either. As I said I know my shortcomings and have no problem saying that. Not sure many others are the same.

As for the story re Cat, yep I recall that and totally denounced it as reprehensible at the time. So what's your problem?

I’ll be honest I find the whole thing entertaining albeit there is the very odd thing that crosses the line.

People sometimes think that because they are “offended” that their “offence” is valid externally (ie) if they are offended it must be offensive and the offence of offending has occurred...they are wrong, simple as that. I could be “offended“ if someone called me for instance slaphead.....it may genuinely offend me (it doesn’t) but the fact is I am a slaphead and they are just taking the piss/having a laugh.........so why would I make a big point of it and start bleating, painting that person as a bounder, trying to get others on my side to slate him for being offensive etc etc........Basically making a Mountain out of a Molehill.
If however someone called me a fukcing slaphead cunt who they were gonna hunt down and batter then that would be both offensive and threatening.........some people sometimes react to the former scale of thing as if it is the latter
