Petty, Pathetic Point Scoring

Well then, critique his post then, point out that it is biased etc.
That is debating, he may disagree and tell you why he disagrees.
But don't make a personalised attack on him especially not a libellous one.
You previously asked me to answer your question which I did. Now can you do me the courtesy of answering the question I put to you.

you’re not too different from the guy who accused a casino worker of dishonesty
You're not too different from the guy who suggested Blackpool fans throats should be slit. In fact you're not different at all, it was you wasn't it.

Nothing worse than petty pathetic point scoring but have you guys seen this?
Typical Londoner moaning because she cant buy a coat for 'only' £200. No wonder they get inflation busting pensions down there.
I think the main point made is that you can order something from the internet, advertised at a certain price and then find out it costs nearly 50% more when it arrives at your door.

I ordered some hiking boots the other day from the EU so interested to see if the same happens to me to be honest! If so more needs to be done by businesses to advertise that the price you end up paying could be very different from the one advertised, as there was no mention that I could be stuck with customs/tariffs.

I get that but for many folk high fashion goods are beyond reach and it smacks of 'poor me' when really the extra cost -rightly or wrongly- is more of an inconvenience to her.

Things like food and housing are more of a concern to me and highlighting the supposed plight of Londoners is a distraction imo.

Once again the small minded extremist little Englander mentality of this government is clear for everyone to see.
To go against the normal position of every other country in the world in refusing to grant the EU ambassador full diplomatic status shows the nasty, untrustworthy and to be quite frank vindictiveness of this ignorant regime.
To argue that they don't want to set a precedent by recognising an international organisation when it is in fact setting a dangerous and unhealthy precedent by going against the convention of every other nation in the world is at its most generous interpretation, behaving like a surly, sulking small child in its intransigence.
Cat, I see your still supporting that lot in stead of your own country, how do you feel about this 👇🏻

I mean it's not exactly headline news, and the article lists more than high fashion goods where this is an issue, also they have someone from Manchester with the same issue. Whilst I also think food and housing are more of a concern (thankfully not for me but for others) that doesn't mean I think they should be the only things reported. I think there's plenty of bandwidth to report on all of these things. Technically football is a distraction, I wouldn't want BBC sports section to be removed so I can only focus on more pressing concerns.

The article itself is barely on the BBC front page, but it's the second most-read currently on the website, which shows that it is of interest to quite a lot of people also.

Irony is lost on you

... nor was it potentially libellous

great knock by the way to help Cat towards his ton

There's a certain irony when a post about petty, pathetic point scoring turns into a whinge fest making pathetic, petty point scoring against an individual, and the original premise of us cutting off our nose to spite our face goes without discussion.

Yup and you've made valid points but I think its being picked up because largely its about London.
Folk in regional places like here are -or will be-affected by Brexit more so in their ordinary lives where the basics are a struggle to purchase anyway.
Some lardy dah Sloanie type may be moaning about the latest fashion 'must have', but in Blackpool stories about people being hungry arent deemed newsworthy.

Fortunately people like Marcus Rashford are changing that and for me I'd rather read about real people.

Exactly.
Then if / when the EU take retaliatory action the Telegraph / Express / Mail can get on with their xenophobia and blame the unreasonable EU for whatever they do.
Xenophobia is a very strong an inappropriate word for these petty political arguments. We all know they are playing silly childish games.

O/P

I can see why this Government would do it. It's making a very specific point of what the EU is. It's doing what all governments do, making a political decision. To get so wound up by it is a worry; I don't think it will make a blind bit of difference to the 300m citizens of European countries -it's not as though we've cut off diplomatic ties with the nations which make up the membership of the EU. Given the majority of the citizens in the UK voted to leave the EU, I think we've been pretty fair in how we've dealt with citizens of European countries to remain in the UK - as we should.

And the beauty of living here, is that in no more than another 4 years, we get the chance to vote on whether we want a party to be in power which will reinstate full diplomatic status to it. I don't think it's going to be a vote winner or loser; I dare say it will get a one line mention in the manifesto of the Greens, LibDems and potentially Labour (but they will do their best to hide it) but it's not something which most people in this country will make the decision as to who they want in Government when they make that choice.

I'd say we've got bigger fish to fry, but it'd probably open up another thread!

Go on then, back to the o/p
Do you consider it to be a hate filled rant? Bear in mind he's used the terms "small minded extremist little Englander ", "quite frank vindictiveness of this ignorant regime." and " behaving like a surly, sulking small child in its intransigence."
Like I said, it's not about debate with him.
You haven't answered my question even though I answered yours. I've critiqued his post for you. I don't think it takes a genius to work out it's biased.

Quite. Except the fish are rotting in a lorry somewhere.

I was wondering the same with some of the outdoor gear sites we use, particularly in Germany. In fact, just bought some snow boots at a slightly higher price here for that very reason. And before anyone lectures me about buying British, the boots are a premium German brand, we do not produce boots of that quality here.

There's a lot of nonsense spoken about the new rules. In general terms, unless you buy from Europe on ex-works or CIF terms, the supplier will be responsible for paying any duty and VAT on importing the goods into the UK. Make sure that what is agreed at the point of sale is the price delivered, duty and tax paid.

Catinaflap - I must admit although I often disagree with you & your provocative way of delivering tosspottery, you are undoubtedly a wind-up wizz & to my knowledge never resort to abuse in your replies. Respect for that.

You’ll never change anyone’s mind on here, but fair play to you for repeatedly raking them in like the rakiest rake in Mr Rake’s rake shop. 🤣😉

Simple order of progression during the day.
Woke up, listened to the news while making my toast, a little annoyed by pathetic small mindedness of British government, wrote o/p while eating said breakfast.
Went off to school to teach live classes on redox, photosynthesis, diet and electrochemical cells.
Planned some of next weeks lessons, marked and gave feedback to some online work from students and wrote some reports during non teaching time. Thought about no politics at all during the day.
After school department Google meeting, food shopping on way home and listening to classic FM on drive back. Thoughts about politics- not really.
Read posts on the site on both sections of the board, watched Channel 4 news, think about politics during both activities. Now eating my tea and settling down to watch a German crime drama on all 4 before bed.
It is hardly a hate obsessed 24 hours. Gives way to temptation to add- unlike some other posters😁

You sure you didn’t just drop a little mention about Dialectical Materialism into your class today!! 😉

Any chance you could answer my question on the UK government vaccine roll out?

Please tell me that there were some scabbykneed kids

How else would a cat watch tv

just remember Cat, despite all the bile, the anger and the name calling, you have 20’s absolute respect as a teacher - most people’s on here, too 👍

He does.

By the sound of it he/she doesn’t have time. Unlike all those retired nabobs sunning themselves in foreign climes.

“Now should I have my next G&T on the veranda or the balcony?”
Heineken Zero for me on the balcony - until end of next week 👍

I can see the TV and the Cricket from there 😎

Paul McCartney did that far more concisely and poetically: Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged a comb across my head...etc.
