Pitiful away attendance at Sunderland.

Aye ok but you could say similar things about other clubs where being small isn't really important, and where I guess you could say AP has maximised FTs (very small) potential.

The thing i find quite striking is the effect its had on the local community, where the training/leisure facilty has been excellent and local folk have bought into it.
If the Seasiders could replicate that on a similar but pro rata basis, then it would improve not only Championship status but also improve the inner wards in the town.
I disagree about the comparison with other small clubs; I live in Hartlepool, Pools have never had any 'real' success, never been higher than the 3rd tier, 2 play off finals (one of which was National League) have no infrastructure to speak of, haven't had the investment Pilley has put in, but they take hundreds every where they go and it's just as hard to go from Hartlepool as it is from Fleetwood.

I understand the catalytic impact of the development of training ground etc, but to be fair that's not the primary purpose of a football club; everything a club does is about the performance at a match - it's hugely important, it's great for the community, but it's not an altruistic move.

I can't wait for us to be doing same, hopefully we appreciate it more than the townsfolk of Fleetwood.

Population of Hartlepool 92,000.

Population of Fleetwood 25,000.

Pretty sure other than Forest Green fc (Nailsworth) Fleetwood is the smallest EFL populated town.

So It’s not difficult for some to work out why they have such poor crowds but many on here don’t seem to grasp that or they just ignore the fact which is my bet.

You forgot to say they are surrounded by water on 3 sides.

Hartlepool has a headland too 😆

It's laughable the way the multi-scarfers continue to try to defend their position that FTFC are a decent run football club on the up and we should look admiringly at them and try to replicate them. They just need to accept the reality of the situation rather than trying to justify and excuse it.

If you follow the mantra of the various Trusts around the country you'll see that the community stuff is of equal value to the match day stuff, and in my view detracts from what following a club is all about. Whether the Wyre residents are appreciative or not I don't know but everything is well supported and very popular.

Interesting point; although Chelsea is an extreme example, it does demonstrate how the lines being blurred can be unhelpful.

Indeed, about the population. The town of Sutton has about 41,000 but the surrounding borough of the same name takes it up a lot.

Nailsworth is surely unique. Parish population is just 5,700. And yet Forest Green Rovers isn't the only club in Nailsworth. There is also Shortwood United who compete in the Hellenic League. Forest Green were for much of their long history playing below that level.

Incredible that both clubs survive, and that Forest Green will probably be in League One next season.
