Players missing yesterday

I'll sum up my position and that's it. I think we need a centre half in sooner rather than later. I would have liked at least one of them to start yesterday. I think it's much less of a problem putting a new central defender into the team than anywhere else in the team apart from the g/k.

I actually wonder if some of you watched the game with your eyes closed yesterday?

Apart from not getting the win we deserved mainly because the 2 supporting Madine were'n high enough up the pitch or were too wide to feed off him the rest of the game we actually played really well right across the team. It's easy to say Crewe are a poor team, they aren't but we made them look like a poor team as we were on them for the full 90 minutes.I'm not sure what some of you want?

This is completely new team, coach, staff and SS wants to build something with NC at the helm. It will take time, how many times do I have to type that? 6 games in and we are playing the best football I have seen since 2012 and this is with young players who have never played together before playing a type of football you see in the PL, not league 1.

As for who played and who didn't yesterday, Woodburn couldn't play, Dougall is a few weeks off match fitness and Williams played the role he will and was man of the match, Gretarsson is not deemed ready yet and Ballard was on the bench and had only got back to Blackpool on Thursday morning. Ekpetita is playing really well so won't be dropped and so I see Ballard replacing Husband on Tuesday and Husband playing left back. I don't think he will change the midfield 3 but I do think he will put Woodburn in for either CJ or Yates although he may swap him with Ward and play him in midfield. So I'm not quite sure why there is this big clamour to see new players not come into the team immediately. We have 40 games to go and there will be some resting of players, injuries and it is that great place to be where those who have the shirt need to play out of their skins to keep it as there are players breathing down their necks and we have seen that NC isn't afraid to drop players or ship them out if he doesn't want them.

Yes but its like riding a bike but i am presuming he has played on grass before 🥴
I dont think professional sportsman should even be smoking, let alone playing while off their tits on dope 🤪

I also dont think it was a bad decision not to throw the new boys straight in.
Look everybody is desperate to see new faces, Its always been that way, its 'fan' thinking.
I kind of understand 20s thinking on a CB but it would have still meant throwing in an Arsenal youth player after at best 2 training sessions.
NC sees them train & if he decided to give them a bit extra time that is ok imo.
If one had played and had a howler people would be saying he was either shit or at best thrown in too early😂

Difficult to know where to start with some of these comments. Some fans will come out with any old nonsense just to win an argument.

I think you are right about the changes coming on Tuesday and I think the team will be changed every week for a while and as a consequence we will drop more points. You say we deserved to win but you cannot win if you dont create chances to score goals. Yesterday we were almost gifted an own goal in the first half and Yates had a shot blocked which I dont personally believe would have hit the target. Apart from the goal we created very little and I think it could easily have been nil nil had they not forced us into action by scoring. Is there only me who thinks Crewe nearly scored 3 in that mad five minute spell? The first half was a good half for us , the second half not so good.

.We have a lot of ineffective possession where the opposition just let us tippy tappy it around and that is where the stats can be meaningless. I really want us to do well but particularly at home we are going to have to get hold of games by the scruff of the neck and get the ball in dangerous areas. Despite his workrate Yates just doesnt get in the right positions to score...CJ is marked out of the game and Madine has always been better with his back to goal than attacking it. Woodburn may link the play better and could be a massive piece of the jigsaw.

And Ballard will be in soon! He's trained one day with us. He'll have one or two more days before Tuesday, presumably.

Enough? Maybe, maybe not. Tricky call.

It's an eye-opener to go and read the thread posted pre-match asking what team posters would pick.

Not really . I picked Ballard and Woodbury, because I didn’t know Woodbury couldn’t play and I didn’t realise Ballard had got back from international duty so late. I also didn’t know Dougall wasn’t match fit which just goes to show we have no idea what is going on with players etc., plus Williams was probably man of the match and Ward scored our goal.

It's Woodburn! I wanted to pick one centre half to address my concerns and I'm getting grief over it. Whether Woodburn was available or not, you still picked him as did so many others as well as a few picking Gretarsson too..

I know that you snipey little prick, that was spell checker. I picked Woodburn and stand by that but he wasn’t eligible to play and I didn’t know that. I also picked Ballard and stand by that but again I didn’t know he had just got back from international duty. Had I known those things I would t have picked them so I think NC picked the right team. I do think he should have bought on a couple of pairs of fresh legs for the last 15 Luballa and Kemp for CJ and Yates.

You are getting more weasely and dislikeable with every day that goes by. Stop trying to be so condescending and righteous all the time and trying to trip people up.

I'll ignore your abuse, for now. If Woodburn was eligible to play you'd have played him. The fact he wasn't is irrelevant. I daresay he'd barely trained with the team either but you'd have picked him. It's not about trying to trip you up, it's just exposing your hypocrisy when you had a go at me for saying I'd have picked a central defender. As would you.

We are getting nowhere near enough out of CJ..he is being doubly marked and that should create space elsewhere but it just isnt being capitalised on. CJ should be right on the last man and making his life hell with his pace.

It seems opposition managers have cottoned on to the threat he is. It's just another problem Critchley has to find a solution too.

Just said this on another thread. Without CJ having the freedom to advance and shoot we are going to struggle to hit the back of the net and our defending will continue to leak soft goals. I can see us losing the next two games at home just because of this and the pressure that’s building before the new centreback pairing gets going and we start looking better.
