Playing Jerry in the u23 match

A slap in the face to a class striker and a player who was so instrumental in getting us promoted. I have no idea what is going on in Critch’s head, but for me he’s managed the situation badly. You just don’t do this sort of thing to a player who has done so much since joining the club.

His focus on lumping it to a big man has meant that we have not made the most of the best all round striker we’ve had in a decade.

Some will point to us being safe and generally I agree, but I’d also argue that at times we’ve been very negative in our approach, particularly when we have been safe from relegation for a long time.

Some will also say today is game time for Jerry, but I’d argue that should certainly be in the first team.

Let’s be clear, we’ve seen the class Jerry has in the Championship. Can anyone remember when he last missed a sitter, I can’t. Let’s also be clear that we’d have seen Jerry in full flow had we set up differently at times.

I fear we’ll lose Jerry and personally I be royally peed off with Critch if that happens. The lad was loving being here, but you can see his confidence has been destroyed.

I’m a bit confused by Critch’s approach, bearing in mind his background at Liverpool. Personally, I think he’s still hunting for the way his team should play, but that’s part of gaining experience I suppose. The Championship requires a different approach, but class players should be playing. I do not see how Gaz gets a start every game and I don’t believe we need his physicality every match.

Big test for Critch next season, we’ll see just how good he is. He can start by being consistent after games, win, lose or draw. I found his chest pumping and love heart signs embarrassing at Blackburn, after a draw and when he did little after losing at Preston and other matches.

Not bashing him, I think he’s been brilliant for us, just that the honeymoon period is over.

He’s just not been very good lately. And critchley gets to see his attitude every single day, you don’t. I’m sure the videos of him out on the piss fighting with his top off in nightclubs doesn’t help him.
He wasn’t the only one out on the piss, so the fact someone recorded it should have no bearing. When you say he’s not been very good, he’s been a bit part player. Tell me when he last missed a sitter, when something was created for him.

If you were at Stoke you’d have seen a class touch that won us the match, in a 10 minute performance. He’s not made it into the pitch in games we could have won.

I’m sorry, but as much as I love Gaz, I don’t want to see him lumbering around (edit - up front on his own) match after match.

How do we know that Jerry didn't ask to play in the match? Sure it's a choice for critch to make but if Jerry asked because he loves playing and critch doesn't think it's a bad idea... then...
No way Jerry asked to play in an u23 match.

Sure he was wanting game time against Blackburn and more time v Preston, when we were garbage and Gaz was doing nothing.

It is a bit of a strange one as the Senior Cup isn't technically a youth competition. It would traditionally be a reserves fixture but no-one has a ressies team anymore.

I don't know if it's my eyes deceiving me, but Jerry looks like he is carrying a bit too much weight. It looked particularly the case against Forest. It could just be a fitness thing.

Two other points with Jerry atm for me:

He looks short of confidence.
He has zero chemistry with Madine.

Just as an alternative view Jerry might have said;
"Let me play today boss. I desperately need a goal and it will be a piece of piss against those kids from Liverpool".
Well that worked at least.
However they did still lump it up to him against two 6'3" CBs.

I didn’t watch and the result doesn’t matter. It was an opportunity for the non-first team players to test their ability.

Something's gone on with Jerry, maybe it's just lack of confidence or something else, we don't know the story, a bit of game time won't do him any harm either way.

Your post is so so wrong we've an average squad which cost nowt and are on wages well below what the rest of the division are paying yet you want us to be world beaters.

Yates has been OK this season but is probably below Championship quality yet you single out Madine who has won us so many points also Lavery has been better.

I love Jerry but we need to be real against better defenders he's achieving little.

This season has been unbelievable in where we are after winning the play offs but people still aren't happy.
Sad Gets.

I’ve not made myself clear and my posts previously have mentioned specifically Gaz and Jerry working well together. I like big Gaz, but he’s not first name on the sheet. We need a plan B and we’ve become a bit predictable.

Previous to our three game poor run we'd drawn with a Premier league side Sheffield Utd and won three games stuffing Reading why so much negativety.

' A few minutes at Preston and none at Blackburn ' ......so why not give him game time time at Liverpool if he feels it would benefit him?
That’s a fair argument, but he was the only established first team player. Not playing in big games and then playing against an u23 team doesn’t add up for me.

I’m not being negative, I’m chuffed to bits with how we’ve done. The post is about Jerry playing today, but missing out in recent big games. I’m very optimistic about next season, but feel we’ve become predictable.

And if Jerry had played Saturday Lavery would have more than likely started today what's the difference?
All this what someone has done in the past is nonsense it's the here and now that counts.

The past, does that include Stoke when his touch of class wins us the match? Ten minutes in 2 big games, he’s not had a chance.

big gaz has been one of our best players this season and integral to the way we have played against big physical centre backs. Yates might have wanted the match fitness? Lots of assumptions made backed up by zero evidence especially when Reece James, Dale, Casey, Moore and Virtue have all played in the first team for us.

Agree, Gaz has been excellent for us this season.

Didn't we put out a side against Man Utd behind closed doors the other week?
Anyone know the starting eleven did Jerry play?
No me neither but apparently we won.😁

Agree with the OP. Would much rather watch a side with Yates in it than Madine. Hoofing it up to a lone target man is awful, Yates and Lavery much better to watch.

Truth in the above Insider,
Jerry was not put on a 'naughty step' appearance. He was given the captain's armband FFS.
This season has been hard for him. We all expected Madine to manage about 8-10 games given his previous mysterious glass back and sock-ankle.
Lavery is a wasp who plays without a care. Yates looks for runs, but has lost a bit of his gob to the centre half.

My fave goal of the season thus far? The winner at Stoke because Jerry waited, paused and then feigned to his left to create space for Bowler to get a tap in.

Yates is as much as part of the squad as all the players who have delivered so much this season,

Beat Utd 3-1 (2 different 11's first and second half from both teams) and drew with Burnley 2-2.
No other details have been shared.

We need an attacking Midfielder to link with the forward players & until then we'll be using Madine as a battering ram. You can't play Jerry & Shane lumping it up, you need to play football. I'll add Madine's hold up play & layoffs have been very good. Let's see how Jerry & Shane get on together, with a different approach (passing football) next season. I think they'll both still be here.

Busy couple of weeks over Easter coming up, JY is definitely going to be involved so if he's not 100% match fit it's worth giving him a run out.

Zero chemistry with Madine 😄😄😄

I suggest you watch the Nobbers match at Bloomfield Rd and see how the second goal was scored.
I'm sure it was a flick on from Gaz goals that put JY through to make Bowlers goal against Stoke.
The fact is they haven't played together often enough

Do these videos exist ? I ain’t seen him fighting in nightclubs !

He comes across as a gentle soul does Jezza
