Plymouth

Its just a friendly, a run out to get match practice, try out what they have been doing last week and give everyone 45 minutes. The score is irrelevant and Joseph hasn't even trained with the squad yet so I guess he was watching for the sidelines.

We still need 3 or 4 more players, including a striker and we have 3 more weeks before the season starts. We need to be patient, it would be great to get off to a good start but we may take a few games to gel so we need to be patient.

When you look at the two teams we put out, there is one very good team , and with a couple of additions we will be fine. We do need to be patient , but I believe it will come together all at once.

I wouldn't care less had we won 9-0.

It doesn't matter in the slightest.

All about fitness and maybe trying a player here and there and seeing whats what with them, tweaking things to see if they work better. Even if that means conceding goals because X has been told not to track back, but to stay where he is for the benefit of experimentation.

The biggest plus the fans can get from these is to hear the players are injury free post match.

You also have to remember the opposition will be thinking the same as NC and equally won't care too much if they concede whilst trying something different.

I remember going to watch us against Hyde United in a friendly in August 2012

Holloway was the manager we’d just missed out at Wembley to West Ham

Matt Phillips scored for us

We drew 1-1

These friendlies aint the real deal guys

Calma

Everyone has a different opinion about how many players need to come in and go out. The important thing here is that the players are getting a bit of game time, and are being assessed in the process. Then Critch will determine what (if any) changes are needed to the squad. My take on this is that we need a striker to replace Madine, that's one of the more obvious changes needed.

I think people are missing football. It could have been the qualifying round for the CL and it wouldn't have got more intense replies😂

The biggest thing about today was it was behind closed doors therefore depriving people of the chance to meet up with friends they haven't seen for a few weeks, occasionally glancing at the pitch.

Last minute Plymouth were let down In an arranged friendly, we stepped in to offer them a game of sorts.
Just a friendly training match and no injuries

Not much point reviewing a team selection, formation, individual performances from a twitter feed tbh.
We certainly don't appear to have started with our strongest 11 yet.
3-5-2 is a formation that most top teams/coaches favour these days so no better time to trial it than in pre-season.
1st time round Critch was a 4-3-3 man initially but quickly adapted to a formation that best suited his players and beating the opposition.
I expect no different and certainly don't expect us to rigidly stick to any particular formation.
Not sure how many Managers have been sacked based on the pre-season results but there's at least one poster on here that would. 😂

Well said Insider !

I'd forgotten about this match, but I
was there too !
Was raining quite heavily from what i can remember

I dont remember people grumbling about the fact we drew against a non league side in a friendly on the old AVTT either.

Maybe times have changed.

Are you a UEFA A coach?
Do you know each players strength?

I do. You don’t play Husband at centre half. This is like Groundhog Day… He is a left back. He might have even being playing at left back. Either way same old mistakes at the back.

Critchley needs to sort it out before the start of the season.

The same Husband who played in two semi finals and the final at Wembley as a center half last time in League 1?

Quite embarrassing your post.

Critchley mentioned even being tired for the Southport game as they did running etc before, so expected some fatigue.

Maybe why he went with the 45 mins each.

You learn more from failure than you do success. Additional pre-season game against last years League 1 champions would have been a very useful opportunity. Obviously we’ve not been able to prepare at all like we would or could for a proper league game or even a friendly with more than 24 hours notice so you can’t read anything into it - but it’s minutes in the legs

It is actually good that Critch has seen those mistakes in a friendly because that was typical of what we did last season, especially the first goal we
went from a really promising position to them scoring. Plymouth obviously was the top league one team from last season, so the fact the match
was evenly balanced shows that we are not far off the required standard for an automatic promotion place.

You'd expect Plymouth to be better than last season seeing as they're in the championship now.

Also Plymouth are a much more settled team with a structure, set of tactics and way of playing which is effective and in which they will have confidence. The fact it was evenly matched bodes well. That being said - it was a friendly and whether it’s was Real Madrid or BJFF the result is irrelevant

1. It was a friendly, generally used as a fitness exercise.
2. You don't even know if Husband played c/h, the whole basis of your argument, that the same mistakes are being made......how do you know?
He might have been played as a striker for all you know......

Good God man.
