Pool-players out of contract in the summer

Surely there are others of these 9 than Bowler with another 12 months option?
I know for sure Thorniley has...
And is Ward's contract up in the summer?

Very refreshing to think we have the vast majority of the squad under contract, or with an option, for next season. Gone are the wholesale changes each summer that was the mark of the last lot in charge towards the end.

Would be harsh to release Ward. Was one of our better players last season and I think we have missed his forward thinking midfield play while he has been out.

As always it will depend on wages, who our transfer targets are etc etc.

Ward's the only one I'd think about letting go, and that's only because of injury.

Marv, will we struggle to keep hold of him or do we have an option?

Club is well organised these days so we won’t be losing players on free unless we are happy for them to go or the player is adamant on running their contract down.
In the latter case, I can equally see the club making moves in the Jan window with them if there’s no prospect of a contract deal well before.

Ward is class and if it weren't for the 2 major injuries it would be a no brainer to offer him a new deal. Such a shame as he was flying last season.

I don't see why not? H e was a bit stupid playing on with the injury, but bar that he's generally injury free.

Max is captain and is unlikely to be a no 3; I just can't see how Moore gets in the squad often and think as a keeper he'd want games.
Added to that our youth keeper looks good enough to be a no3 and it frees up a squad place as under 23,so let Moore get regular football elsewhere

Stuart Moore's only appearance for us was the Rovers game when he got about 30 minutes. I don't really know how good he is? Does anybody?

His brother was in goal for Coventry on Tuesday. On that basis he looks OK 🤣

And didn't he play at the back end of last season when we were guaranteed a play off spot? If not, who was that?

I'd definitely let Ward go, need to start reducing the injury proneness on the squad. I'd be moving on Virtue and Stewart as well.
Think it's easy to forget just how good Ward was for us last season. His performance away at Sunderland was on of the best I saw from a pool player since the boycott. If he can get back to fitness, I'd be offering him a new deal.

Fair enough, I just think he seems injury prone. He has had several bad injuries and will take a while to get back into the swing of things and the step up in level. He then has to stay fit, which I wouldn't personally gamble on.

Virtue is not injury prone, he has suffered 1 very bad injury, and given a contract extension whilst injured.
Stewart contract was also extended but needs to prove he is worthy of it.
Always liked Ward but reluctantly would let him go.

Virtue has had more than just the one injury, this current one is obviously the most serious. We haven't seen him in the team every week over a full season yet.

27 games season before last which was curtailed due to covid
17 last season before injury
and he scores goals.
Critch obviously rates him, and he is not being rushed back which I agree with.
He will be a big part of squad next season I believe.

Yeh that's fair, he may have finished the season that was cut short with over 40 apps. I do rate him as a player, he scores some nice goals as well. I suppose we'll see because as you say, Critch clearly rates him and he's got another year minimum, plus another year option on his contract.

He's had two bad injuries, that doesn't mean he's injury prone, outside of the two he's a consistent 30 - 40 games per season player.

He also played the full game against Rovers last season. He made a couple of excellent saves but wasn’t convinced by some of his footwork.
Also watched him on TV for Luton against us in the playoffs and he was culpable for a couple of our goals.
Wouldn’t put him in the same class as Maxwell on what I’ve seen so far.

We should definitely be giving Ward a similar extension as to what Madine was offered in the summer. Both players have had their injuries but are both starters when fit.

The problem is... with Ward and Virtue back and Carey and Casey over 21, we are over the 25 limit. We also need a couple of quality centre mid in this division

Agree re Ward. He's been a big miss for us this season.

I like Ward but that was against Lge 1 against opposition at the start of the season our midfield was poor and getting over run he then got injured and it was only when Whintle came in now Connolly both holding mids allowing the rest of the team to push on did we improve.

Connolly is not a midfielder, I was told so frequently on AVFTT

If we want to progress then we need better quality than Virtue and Ward tbh.

Hear what you are saying
Suspect Ward will not get a contract with injury record. Virtue not sure yet, other players are stepping up and think Virtue will as well. The fact he was given a new contract whilst injured shows what Critch thinks of him
