Port Vale trip

Looking at a couple of nights stay with my brother, any m villages around that are fairly close and decent for ale? Or is the only realistic option of staying in Stoke?

yep, it's a dump. Every time i've gone Crewe/Vale or Stoke always had a stop off in Sandbach which is decent.

Leek's a nice town, less than 1/2 hour to Burslem. Went there before Port Vale last year. It's also in some lovely countryside.
