Portsmouth a free hit

I think that most of us are hoping we will win on Saturday but are expecting us to lose so it's a bit of a free hit before the Christmas run in, A win would be magnificent, a draw very good and a loss would be a blip but not one to get all doom and gloom about.*

If we can stay in the top 8 to the start of January and sign 2 or 3 players who will really add wha we are lacking to the team then we will be really well placed for an onslaught to the end of the season.

^ I reserve the right to moan like fuck during a game, as is the way! 😂

Not sure it's a free hit with teams above having 2 games in hand. A win would be excellent, a point would also be fantastic. Either way, we need to keep collecting points and staying in touch or get in with the top 6. I'm not so sure we'll see many if any new faces in January - hopefully we hang on to Rhodes.
A win on Saturday would be a real marker for the season and show that we are one of the top sides in the division - the confidence it would bring would be excellent too.

Critchley must go if we fail to win.
I can’t see that happening BFCX3 tbh.

The board will know that Portsmouth haven’t lost a game this season and it would be unreasonable to let him go if we get a point out of it.

However football is full of surprises so who knows what they will do if we fail to win this one.

Looking at the fixtures the 3 teams below Pompey could all win ,so a win for us would really rattle their fans ,it’s a MASSIVE game. You never know we may need to pip them for an auto or play off place .Go there with no fear UTMP

Why is it a free hit? We were a championship club last season. They’re Portsmouth, not Real Madrid.

They’re a very good league one team and they’ll probably get promoted. There’s no reason we can’t go there and win though. Let’s get this little old Blackpool mentality in the bin. We’re as big a club as anyone in this division.

Looking at our away stats and the difference in goals we've scored compared to at home, it tells you the difference in how we set up. We've been to conservative on many occasions - we need to find something inbetween for away games. Sitting back just hands momentum to the home team and crowd though.

Portsmouth is a must win game for me… A 6 pointer that will almost certainly define our season. Critchley must go if we fail to win. We need to go at them constantly passing the ball in a forward direction.
My team for Saturday;

Rhodes(nominal GK), Kouassi, Apter, Hamilton, Lavery, Joseph, Dembele, Beesley, Carey, Dale, Dougall

Anything else would be an admission of defeat from Critchley and would IMO be grounds for his dismissal even if we win.
I am so sick of this possession based football, up and at them lads and all we need to do is score more goals than Portsmouth.
Why hasn't anybody thought of this before? I'll tell you why - It's because of the negative, boring, possession based, safety first mindset of Critchley.

I look on this game as a huge opportunity to put down a marker. There's a lot to be gained by going and trying to win the game. More than 3 points.
And on the reverse of that, being too gung-ho and losing 4 or 5 nil isn't great either for morale and where we fit into the top 6.
Hopefully we can get the right balance and give them some headaches with Dembele, CJ etc giving them enough problems where they have to think about how they're defending and doubling up players, giving other midfielders a bit of breathing space.

You are bang on here Athers .

We are as good as anyone . Tbf I don’t think Neil and the boys will view it as a free hit .

They will be going for a result.

You don't have to be all out attack
Try to play in their half if mistakes are made make them in their half
Make our first thought to play the ball forward quickly
Don't play to the wing back's feet play the ball in the space in front of them
We have the fire power in attack give them the opportunities
Playing with positive tactics and mindset is playing to our strengths

Score more goals than Portsmouth and we will win that's a proper football statement and would you be surprised its been around for a while its how the game works would you believe. If a team was visiting Blackpool and kept the ball like we do you would be saying Blackpool were out played, couldn't get the ball what a good side they were etc etc

Agree with @BFC_BFC_BFC - we only get 2 chances during the season to really close the gap on the leaders and this is one of them. Win are we are back to 6 points behind and yes they have 2 games in hand but nothing is guaranteed with games in hand and this might just knock them. So agree it's a must win to keep in with a chance of automatic.

3 points & being entertained is the least WE deserve. FORWARD, FORWARD, FORWARD will be the cry from the terraces. If we don't win by at least 4 goals the wormy snake must go.

I think him may have been playing to the crowd AngelBFC

Our goal difference is a concern as well, if Critch isn’t going for 2-0 at the very least, preferably 3-0+, then honestly what’s the point in supporting this club whilst he’s in charge

This fixture is a battle between two seaside towns for not only league 1 points but also uk coastal supremacy.

Its much more than about the football. Its more important than people think.

Ah, but the MSG can't be too complacent, Portsmouth have this fella, hopefully he's using the correct toilets nowadays:

Only two chances may i ask how work that one out, is that assuming the top six win all their games till the end of the season - did you know that cant happen - so are you saying Saturdays game is a must win or season over?

Critchley must go if we fail to win, what a stupid comment, i think you last comment of getting at them constantly and passing the ball in a forward direction is even more stupid. Just about sums up your knowledge of the game.
Keep the jokes coming its making me laugh and putting a smile on my face

I think a lot fans on here expect to lose and then claim it was a good performance only conceding 1 or 2 goals.

No reason we should not be going there and expecting to win. That goes for any team in this division but unfortunately our standards and expectations have dropped.

Not suggesting we go hell for leather, just that it's a great chance to finally announce our arrival in the division (sadly).

For me, there's much more to be gained from winning the game than would be lost by losing it, even badly. Therefore I'd suggest not trying to play for a draw and try to go and win it.

We aren't but we might win, it's not about what you've won in the past or the size of your crowds.
It's about having a good squad, a good attitude and a good coach and a bit of good fortune.
Portsmouth probably a slightly bigger club than us for what that's worth, but the north west of England is a very different football environment to the south coast, its easier for them to be a bit bigger.

I don't think that at all, but I fear Sadler does. We should be romping this league with the squad we have but we have been plodding in a lot of games so it's about are we ready to start stamping our authority or will we be timid and wet?

First sentence something sensible i agree for once - but yet another clueless comment do you have any idea about football

I wasn't thinking you were suggesting that - and yep, would be a massive result for the rest of the season. A decent draw would be good too - just not lose it by playing within ourselves.

Dougall??? Stop playing safe, that 16 year old kid miles is a forward and had half a decent game, get him in there!!

Do you really think this squad is a squad capable of not only winning the league but “romping” it?
