Posh chairman Darragh Macanthony on Critch

Stating the obvious, applies to all young, talented and successful coaches. However, I think Critch would think very carefully about moving to the sort of clubs mentioned by DM.

Critch will know that he’s learning all the time, and that sometimes, the squad you end up with can be the making or breaking of you. He has a talented bunch right now, and a great owner, a club on the up. He’s never going to a club in decline, he’s not daft, because it’d destroy his reputation.

He's applying the same rule to everybody and every situation. In Critch's situation it makes absolute sense to stay where he is for a while. I think Critch will see out his contract as a very minimum, to show loyalty to the person who has given him this fantastic opportunity with fantastic support. And I do believe he will want to see this project through to a certain point at least. With this group of players, and hopefully to oversee the setting up of new training facilities and the new academy.

Obviously of Klopp moved on and Liverpool rang Critch that would be it. It's a big if though, especially so soon in his management career.

In making these comments, it makes me wonder if he ever considers why Darren Ferguson isn't destined for bigger and better things....
Actually he kind of has to say that Critch won't be here long, cos Critch is making his own manager look a bit hopeless and that needs justifying!

"Critchley is an amazing manager. Too good for a club like Blackpool or Peterborough. He'll be gone soon."

Good point, it must be making him and DF feel a little uncomfortable especially considering they finished above us last season (even though I think we were better than they were by the end).

I see no issues here, it's said in the right way. A blind man and his dog can see how well Critchley is doing. The difference between now and under the Os is we have a chairman who knows his value. With the new Training Ground and Academy work going on, it is a huge job for Critchley to rebuild our great club. Taking a jump too soon and some chairmen wouldn't have kept faith like Sadler did. His work here is far from done.

Says the man who employed Darren Ferguson...........3 times

EVERY good coach/manager will get clubs looking at them.....but for every Critch......You have a Darren Ferguson who got a little bit of success and jumped ship for a bigger club....and then went back to Peterborough.

When it's good.....keep it going

I have no doubt Critch will get offers from other clubs....but he needs to win his spurs here and then make the jump to a new opportunity once he's got us to the Prem (again) and he's ready to make the jump....in about 4 seasons....☺️😊😚

Personally I do think it's disrespectful for one chairman to talk about another chairman's manager so publicly.

Not saying he doesn't have a point with some of the clubs named, I think it would have to be a good club and a longer term project to tempt Critch away from us.

I'm under no illusions about the potential for Critchley to go on to better things, so what he's said is hard to disagree with all joking aside. But my gut feeling is that he won't jump ship at the first opportunity, I don't think that's how he operates. He's settled, it's in the north west so presumably convenient for him, and the main reason I think he'll stay for a few years is because his role here isn't just a manager. It's a huge project here right now with the training facility and youth academy development, all of which he will have a big say including planning and design. He has the chance to stamp his mark permanently on this club and he won't get that anywhere else I don't think.
You never know for sure, but I suspect he'll be around for a while yet.

At this rate, he could do what Dario Grardy (bar his misdemeanours) did for Crewe and have a job for life.

Critch isn't in the same boat as other mangers, he's a loyal manager/ coach.. I think he will be with us for 3 or 4 years and only Liverpool's job will be able to temp him away before... Is the overall package at BFC the fans love him, as do the players the owner and staff do.. why would he want to go to any else..

I think he's mistaking the Ferguson attitude,. Jump ship at any opportunity if the money's right... however being a poor manager in the championship it looks like there stuck with him 😃

Being Oyston free enables a very different future.
Yep, they seem a good match and I think Sadler will recognise Critchley’s worth and offer a longer term contract.
He knows he’s backed, as the start to the League zone campaign showed, and I think Critchley is loyal. The only issue would be in a few years time whether there’s a real prospect of Liverpool wanting him should Klopp go and we continue to do well.

I think if liverpool were to come calling we might have an issue, southampton f*** off, sheffield united you are having a f***ing laugh. You would only be going for the financial rewards, any sensible individual with the kind of cpability the NC has, who has got their whole future in front of them would look at a club like southampton and possibly think why risk my career for a pay day today. Look at Grayson, or holloway, Grayson went because it was the club he supported as a kid, an offer difficult to turn down. Im thinking that NC believes blackpool could be a PL team in a couple of years, maybe even sooner. I genuinely believe he could be up there with the peps, Klopps and fergies (The manure version not the posh version) of this world.

even the complete anti critch numpties on this site have had to adjust their POV, or just disapear, can see him here for five years or so and maybe more if we are in the PL, then hes got europe to aim for, maybe a uefa cup in the pool trophy cabinet, or whatever its called now.

You saying he wouldn’t take the chance to manage Southampton in the PL? Of course he would. Only needs one decent season with them like Rodgers had with Swansea and you’re looking at a bigger club showing interest and you’re an established name for many years on big money.

I’m loving the positivity around Critch and the club in general but let’s not get deluded about who and where we are. It’s the quickest way to have our pants pulled down.

Of course Critchley will move on... eventually. All managers have egos and are ambitious. And it will be to a Prem club if we have not got there first. And maybe even if we have got there. It must be nice for a manager to have the resources of a ManU, though the job pressure counterbalances that as OGS is finding out.

But when he goes it will be on good terms and BFC could then have a very cosy relationship with a leading Prem club. And we have Stuart McCall to step up if needed, he’s not a bad replacement. All risks/rewards are being actively managed. Sadler didn’t get where he is today without that skill.

The logical step for NC is England u21. He will progress his career and reputation, without the danger of taking on a ‘big’ club in trouble or on the decline.
Not sure that’s a good fit. England U21s is more of a part-time job without the day-to-day player development that he enjoys and is good at. I think NC wants to create something more permanent.
At least with NC being born in Crewe it is unlikely that he will jump ship for his home-town club as Grayson did ! 😀

One things for sure, he's built up a relationship with us the fans and won't give that up lightly imo.

Says we've got something special here, the setup, players, fans.

I can't see him giving it up for just a bigger club who often don't give managers time and don't have great support, get on players back etc.

It'd have to be the right fit and hopefully he's got a lot to do here yet, he's signed his players and is only a little way into improving them.

Depends on how well we do this year, honestly. Lower mid-table and I think he'll stay, but even if we were to finish just outside the playoffs he may have some upper championship interest. If we make the playoffs he could get lower-prem interest. I'd say it's likely we'll have him for another few years.

Now I’m no body language expert but when he’s saying “Their manager is excellent” - he’s shaking his head. In fact, he shakes his head an awful lot. When he says “When a bigger club comes calling, it’s very difficult for a manager to say no” - he touches his nose. Clear sign of a lie.

So to conclude: he’s talking böllocks, trying to unsettle a rival club and should keep his beaky lying nose out of our business.

Well its worked out very well for Southgate for sure but I also tend to think its not the right step for him and hope he wants to work with Simon Sadler in getting Blackpool promoted in the near future. After that , who knows .

I can't see him wanting to leave for quite a long time really(but could be wrong!). To me there's something immensely satisfying about building something from the ground up...and Blackpool was almost a basket case when he took over! He's started a project and it's progressing very, very nicely...and I'm sure he thinks the same. He'll want to see just how far he can go with 'his baby' before he considers leaving...imo.

Sheff United are a big club compared to us of course but yeah, the connection he has, the control he has, the freedom to play out his footballing philosophy, I'd like to think he'd stay. Would say the same for most bigger champ clubs, Stoke, Birmingham etc. One of the yo-yo clubs might tempt him, but otherwise I think we've still got quite a bit of Critch magic to experience before a prem team steals him from us.

Someone offers him a deal that will give him financial stability for life - he is gone, and who would blame him!

Just as pretty much anyone on here would do if they were offered the same.

Money talks!!

There’s a lot of naivety going on here.

If a bigger club comes calling (there are plenty, let’s not kid ourselves) and offers to double his wages for example, he’s a gonner.

Keeping NC will be our single biggest challenge this season regardless of how many fist pumps to the North Stand he does.

In any case you would like to think that the club are compiling a list of potential candidates in preperation for his departure. Obviously I want him to be here for many years, and actually I think he will want see this project out. There is no harm in being proactive as a club though when it comes to touting his potential replacement.

He seems a very sensible guy to me. He’ll know that moving to another club won’t necessarily work, even if he’ll be paid more money (potentially). He’s got something good going on here in a club that is growing. We’re not little Blackpool.

I wouldn't like that, it's a massive waste of time for something that might not happen and a list that will change almost weekly.

The thing is, if he moves “up” from here, he encounters the thing that did for Steve Bruce….fans wanting immediate improvement and mega millions spent and instant champions league form and a board that doesn’t quite see it the same way but still wants champions league form anyway so it’s an all round unpleasant experience.

I don’t see him moving to another Championship club as long as we are in the Championship and doing ok. If he starts to feel I t’s all going backwards in three or four years for whatever reason he might use the fresh challenge excuse and join a heritage calibre club Nottingham Forest or something.

Yeah I get what you mean. I would like to think that there are certain people on our radar though. But honestly, I think NC will be with us for quite some time yet. Although he will be appearing on plenty of bookies shortlists from now going forward.

I know this doesn't guarantee he won't ever go but as we've all said he's loving it.

Maybe the posh chairman meant he won't be here long reletive to the time the universe has been around......

🙄

Blackpool or Peterborough! how dare he.

F*ck Off Peterborough
You ain't got no history,
Six Playoffs, Anglo Italian & FA Cups,
That's what we call history...

For that Posh wanker to compare Blackpool with them is ludicrous....

They have no history by comparison.

1953, arguably the greatest, most talked about FA Cup final ever.

Matthews, Mortenson, Ball, Armfield et al.

First Ballon door winner. Runners up in the old 1st division (now called The Premier League)

I read their forum quite regularly and they are very negative about their prospects, reminds me of Preston fans. Not sure what they expect, for Posh just being in the championship is a great achievement, for us more historically successful clubs it can be the start of something. To be fair to the guy though if we're just comparing where both clubs are currently there's some basis for comparison (similar-ish attendances, though I think they've had a few 7-9k's which we wouldn't be happy with, similar wage bill I would have thought, both just promoted from league one), that won't last long though when we're a decade into our top-two division odyssey and they're back in league one.
