Potential Coronavirus Cure

The headline seems a bit presumptuous.

"The antibody has not yet been tested in people, so how it might behave inside the body and its potential side effects are totally unknown."

Only being able to produce 200,000 doses a month is also a massive problem for us. Trump has stopped orders of PPE from leaving the US so there is no way we'll see this cure even if it is safe and effective until the US has met its own needs. Unless they can seriously ramp up production I doubt we'll get as much as a sniff of it for another 3-5 years.

According to the article it has only been shown to work on human cells in the petri dish. It's not been tested on animals never mind humans. I doubt very much we will see this until next year even if they speed up the licensing process as much as possible.

Yes, It is an antibody though and not a vaccine

Loads of wacky cures being touted at present, if I was cynical, I would say it wouldn't harm a company's share price. I came across two American Tobacco companies saying they had got a cure, or was it a vaccine?

As with 99% of drugs on the market, the structure of the antibody will be patented and then released under licence to other manufacturers.
Depending upon the production time, I would imagine that every country in the world will have a 'manufacturer' on the case to produce.

The sceptic in me says that....ANY opportunity of a breakthrough will see that companies value rise a thousand fold.
Bigger pharmaceutical companies will just get the check book out as buying it for £100m will give them revenue of billions every year.
In fact....the same (sort of) story line is in the new Billions (TV program).....and just 1 drug passed for use by the FDC is going to make £300m a year.
Imagine one that will be needed by the whole world........

The idea of a preventive 'cure' means we need it for life........7.8Billion x $1 a month

If the company doing the research are preparing to pass it on, or sell it on, to others you might be able to get some scaling up to spread it around the globe?
glasshalffull always the optimist and in this case justifiably so. The rest of the world will throw billions at them and the effort to scale up production. Let's hope it's safe and effective

Antibodies can cause harm and need testing like any other drug
Yes, but the process is faster 👍

It's a possible cure and there have been others touted about too, including the potential of antibodies taken from those who have recovered from Covid 19.

I'm not sure anyone suggested that it was done/dusted and ready for injecting into people di they?

Yes, I was reading about this yesterday. Sounds promising. Their shares went through the roof yesterday.

Tbh I’d be a bit cautious over some of these American miracle cures. They have fast-tracked these things so fast, they have (understandably) missed normal vital stages. e.g. J&J going straight to human trials.

I know given a choice, I’d rather wait for the Oxford one...

I would like nothing more than success for this antibody, but the protocol for testing new drugs will take this at least a couple of years to be tested trialled on humans and approved. Still, it gives Donald something to pin his credibility to.

That's not a given depending on the extent it's a copy of something that's already being used.
