Prem Season 2010-11

For anyone who thinks football isn't cyclical, just look at the teams from 5-10 and where they've been since.

It's just the length of the cycle you have to worry about

Disagree. I think OO would have sold and tried to retain some sort of minority shareholding and a 'title'. KO would have pushed for the sale as well, easy quick money.

The position with VB at that time was very simple- he owned 20%. He must have been aware of trouble brewing so I guess would have sold.

You guess a lot - all we actually know is he no longer owns the club.

The old goat turned down the chance to sell when we got promoted first time round.

We still haven’t got totally rid of that family from the club as he is stubborn as you like.

So why anyone thinks he would have sold is beyond me!!?

Especially when Sky paid him loads of Wonga.

He should have been forced into the sale by the switch from the EFL to the EPL, at which point the rules barring rapists should have kicked in.

Let down by the authorities once again.

A second season would have been a lot more complicated for him, can't remember if I read it in that "How Not To Run A Football Club" but wasn't there going to be more pressure on him stepping down from his position due to his rape conviction? We also would have had to spend much more on infrastructure, as they let us off with certain things as it was our first season.

I also don't see why the club receiving more money from promotions/safety would have prevented Belekon in the future from getting rid of them, the Oyston's would have just stole even more money, which would have entitled Belekon to even more when he sued them.

Another season in the top flight or another promotion would have just put a bigger magnifying glass onto what was going on really. That season when we went down was when a newspaper did a report on the Oyston's syphoning money out to Owen's companies - if we'd still been in the Prem that'd have been an even bigger story.

Side note, me and my mates were at college when the report came out and we started a "Blackpool fans against Oyston" facebook page (it's still on there) because of it and tried to organise a protest after the Brighton game, we got absolutely hounded by some for potentially distracting the players during a promotion chasing campaign - when we went one down a chant of "stand up if you've had enough" got going directed at the directors box, we came from behind and won the game and nobody stayed behind for the protest 😅 that was the end of our vigilantism!

Would he have sold though?

He could have transferred the shares to Vicky as they were still married or gifted them his kids under the seven year rule - although I don’t think IHT would have even applied then as private businesses are generally exempt from IHT I think.
 
Like fuck the Oystons would have sold if we stayed up.

Gutted at the time and from a footballing sense we didn’t deserve too really despite the league table never lies as they say.

In hindsight to get rid of the Oystons it probably was best we went down & didn’t come back up.

Primarily because KO I think would have been the driver. As I said, no chance OO would have left the Club- he'd have built in a position for himself and no chance he'd have got someone else in to run it instead of KO. IIRC there was interest surrounding buying.

But as you say it's guesswork from us all, although had we stayed up and a bid made I'm sure that bidder would have used the EPL rapey card.

Karl wanted to sell, OO refused. Karl put a case forward that it was the time they would get max value when we were originally promoted, OO didn’t want to know, mainly for vanity reasons.

I am not guessing anything.

Please point out where I have?

I know all that. I'm pointing out as subtly as I can that had we stayed up a bid(s) would, best to add probably, have come in and the rapey card used.

You are guessing that OO's mind would remain the same without any change. Clearly things do change and so do stances, sometimes enforced. How that would have played I've no bleedin' idea.

In truth though, who cares now?

I had a friend who was fairly high up with a local bank . One of his jobs was as Owens personal banker . He told me that had we won the playoff final against West Ham , the club was to be sold , and a sale had been agreed.Staying in the Championship meant the buyers wouldn’t pay the asking price and the sale fell through .

Someone inside BFC from that season told me the Premier League were hoping they would go down so they wouldn't have to deal with OO failing their fit and proper person test. They wrote to him saying he needed to transfer his shares to someone else but never chased up and next thing you know we are relegated and it's not their problem anymore.

Who knows if a second season would have made them do something...and tbf, OO could have transferred his shares to someone close and still been defacto owner behind the scenes Im sure. It's not like he would have automatically sold it to SS

He should have been stripped of ownership but two opportunities were missed, first by the EPL, then by the EFL.

In those circumstances, you can't pass on to family members. See Fleetwood.

You can pass onto family members - it’s who has control (or who they can prove has control) counts.
 
We didn't stay up because of Kingston's error at Blackburn. 3 points to us and none to Blackburn would have led to their relegation not ours.

yep, got told that on sunday. Told he's a very decent guy so hope in a non football way, he does ok,
