Horrible road in places the A6. I think part of the problem is it’s raised and some of the minor roads joining it are uphill meaning you’ve really got to boot it to get a decent head of steam.
Firstly, thoughts to the young lad and his family. Difficult to go through now but also the months/years of recovery ahead. Best wishes.
However, the roads and junctions are not the issue.
The standard of driving these days is absolutely horrific. Drivers often believe they are more important than anyone else using the roads, and the attitude “it’ll never happen to me” results in so much pain and upset for so many people.
Having first hand experience, I wish we could get a message out to people, but we can’t. I investigate fatalities and when out and about in enquiries, enforce the fatal 5, speeding, mobile phone use, drink & drug driving, seatbelts and careless driving, and the amount of shite, I/we get when doing so is unbelievable.
I visited a family following a fatal collision in Lytham a few weeks ago, on the way back to the office, I stopped outside a primary school as it was nearly kicking out time, to see if anyone was daft enough to use their phones as children left school… FOUR tickets I gave out in 40 minutes, baring in mind it takes 10 minutes to process one! The parents that knew I was parked up couldn’t believe how frequently it was happening!
We need to get a message out but as a nation we’re too scared to show videos, dash cam, photographs, police body worn video, the images I look at day after day, that would without doubt hit home if shown during the add break of Arsenal v Man Utd!
We’ll never stop it from happening, but I feel we just don’t try hard enough to at least prevent something!
