Radio Silence continues ...

Why can't the club provide a progress update - nothing for days (maybe weeks).
When can we expect an announcement?
It's 2023 - not 1923.

You're a supporter not a director.
You have no need or right to know who the manager is until they see fit to tell you.

We live in the generation of now now NOW and it isnt healthy 🤦
I agree with both of you actually. This clamour for info, info, info is very 21st Century and, probably, overwhelming. Then again, there are season tickets to sell and a fan-base that is trying to be supportive.

You could also add, according to wizzerboy, we have no right to know. Of course he’s right, we don’t have a ‘right’ to know, but as has been posted many times before the clubs PR is terrible. A few occasional tit bits ,would keep interest up and if there was a hint of something exciting help with ST sales. Anything that costs virtually nothing but has a financial benefit has to be a good thing.

What can the club say that doesn't generate a negative story for them.

If the club says the search is ongoing, the story becomes "why is it taking so long"?

If the club says they expect an appointment by xx/xx/2023 then everyone speculates on who it is, and they end up with a re-run of the Rosenior situation, with the new manager hamstrung from the start because everyone assumes he was second choice.

The best thing the club can do is keep quiet, and make one announcement, when they tell us who it is.

When you've fuck all to say it's best er to say fuck all and make announcements when ready.👍
Disagree - how can you have fuck all to say in a situation like this. How's the recruitment going, how many people are they talking too, when might there be some news? Gotta keeps fans updated. So old school to accept nothing, it's accepting mediocrity. Mushroom management - keep them in the dark, and every so often dump a load of shit on there. A piss poor way to treat supporters - IMHO ;)

Statement from the club

We’re aware of all the speculation about our next manager and we understand our supporters are anxious to find out who we select. Be aware that we are making sure by searching extensively, that we are as certain as possible that we have the right manager to o take us forward with attractive, entertaining, winning football. Please be patient.

Phew, can sleep easy now.

Quite funny that we go from fans wanting an update, to whining like babies when they do. Just chill and when they have news, they will announce it. The only other option is to earn millions and buy the club yourself. 🤣

Tbh summers seem to be painful these days. The last one was dreadful, losing a manager unexpectedly, the wait to see who we'd get, terrible appointment and missing target after target. It created a real negative energy.

This one so far doesn't give you a positive feeling, not yet anyway.

Just the lack of general communication and the uncertainty of the ongoing positions to be filled. The longer it goes on the more people will be anxious.

We knew for ages what we needed once the season finished, makes me wonder how ready to go we really were.

There's got to be something soon.

Addendum : We are confident of naming a successor to Major Frank Buckley very soon and certainly before our pre-season game with Third Lanark !

Where is this statement?

This entire situation is a bit of a tough one for everyone involved, supporters, the board (what's left of it), etc. The problem is they open themselves up to all kind of criticism if they put time lines on appointments, or keep making empty announcements, but the supporters are feeding on scraps if they dont. Its probably important to keep in mind that, first, the relegation and subsequent reset creates delays. A club coming off a relegation and in league one is not going to be a managers first choice, they will seriously have to have a think if its right for their career. Also, doing transfer business early may not be an option because players will want to be playing as high up as possible and mat hold off to see if a lower end championship offer comes through, same with any possible loans. Sadly we have to patient here as hard as that may be.

The day McCarthy was appointed, we knew a new manager would be needed at the end of season. The silence and lack of appointment I find pathetic. What chance has a new person got to assemble a squad, sort his own back room team out, etc etc.

I reckon potential managers look at the potential for success. When Critch left there will have been a sense that it would be difficult to follow him, with a club with the lowest budget in the division. That may have restricted applications, perhaps. Next season we will be in a position to bounce back with one of L1's bigger budgets. Potentially a good opportunity for somebody to enhance their CV. In theory. The vacuum at the club may be off putting though. And the high turnover under Sadler.

This is always the most frustrating time of the year in respect of football, always has been and always will be. We all want to know everything and we want to know it NOW, however we need to grow up and let the club do what it believes is best and they will then tell us when the time is right. In other words calm down and don’t listen to NIXON from the sun it’s clear his time as a reliable source is well gone 🤣

I liked Nixon better when he wore a Fez.

Good point, but I wonder if the inverse is true, they want the promotion, but know the pressure will be greater. I believe in the last Structured Dialogue it was said if we were relegated we would have a top 8 budget, a top 8 budget v promotion are two different things and Im certain the idea is to try to come back up at first attempt. Prospective candidates may be nervous if they will get the time necessary to succeed?

Quite possibly yeah. We don't exactly have a patient tolerant fan base....

The zero information info situation is not normal. Its a club in a very defensive mode, at odds with itself and its customers. Hopefully to be rectified soon.
In the Championship, Reading still have a caretaker in charge, Huddersfield have no-one at all, only Watford have appointed a permanent manager since March 7, which was also the day they appointed their last permanent manager.

In League 1, MK are without a manager, Port Vale have a caretaker only, and the last permanent appointment was Oxford on March 12.

You can see a similar picture in previous seasons as well.

Last season, the PL ended a couple of days ago, the FA Cup final was the week before, and only Liverpool had the Champions League to worry about next weekend, this year the PL ends next weekend, the FA Cup isn't for another 2 weeks and the Champions League is 3 weeks away.

Thanks to the WC, this season is dragging on longer than normal, a number of potential candidates are likely either involved with their PL sides, or possibly the play-offs, and the club perhaps can't even approach, let alone announce, some of them until their season is over.

So I think the reality is that clubs at this level don't tend to appoint permanent managers in April or May, and there's really nothing more the club can say than that.

I suspect the club have had enough of getting ripped apart after anything they post

I know it happens at most football clubs but towards the latter part of the season it was getting ridiculous .

At the end of the day you can’t get called names such as bullshit Ben if you don’t make statements. That nickname was a bit of a disgrace if I’m honest and I suspect played a part in whipping up further heat on him which culminated in death threats

If the fan base was a bit more moderate and forgiving might be different .

Fans have shot themselves in the foot a bit I think

When the club have news they will tell us I suspect that is the current modus operandi

My vibe is that this links to the Sporting Director thing. Sheff Wed logistics agreed but no announcement until their season ends which is now the Play Off final - but effectively he can work for us - therefore he has ‘signed off’ any manager thang… further vibe is it is Debbie and as such he/they are ‘getting on with stuff’ hence the released list etc.

In short, it may well be all in place save announcing which is good manners/courtesy to Sheffield?
