Rail and wind dilemma

So currently in Alnwick, which is lovely.

Tomorrow we have a train journey booked to Edinburgh from Alnmouth. By the time of our return journey around 6pm tomorrow the wind in Edinburgh has a weather warning for 56 mph.

In your opinion could these speed gusts lead to rail cancellations etc ? Asking because if we are there and our return is cancelled then it would be about £170 to get back to Alnwick in an Uber, and that’s probably not what we want to pay out because of a cancelled train 😳

What would you do, play it safe and mull around in Alnwick and the surrounding area, or take a risk and go to Edinburgh for the day ? 😳

We have the cottage in Alnwick until Wednesday morning .

Go to Edinburgh and sit on the right hand side of the train. Fantastic views on the seaward side.

The rail line is very exposed and there were significant delays on the line on Thursday. I use the line a lot and the past 12 months has been a nightmare. Don’t book onto the trans Pennines services and drive to Berwick and jump on a LNER there. Lovely walk on the coast from Craster to the Victoria at Low Newton. Will do that in the next few days.

I’d chance it. The Trains app is pretty good at updating with any cancellations. If they cancel the trains, surely they would need to put on coach/bus replacements. They can’t leave you stranded to pick up the extra bill. I had similar situation in Glasgow, and they paid for taxis to Carlisle.

Just checked the trainline app and trains are running OK Alnmouth-Edinburgh.
Would have thought the return would be the same👍🏻
Enjoy your day and Xmas away🌲🎅🧡

yep, it's lovely up there. Coastal walks are outstanding although not necessarily in this weather. Alnwick lovely little town. Enjoy.

Next August I'm on a four day golf break staying in Alnwick. Looking forward to recommendations for the evenings😃
