Rashford

If Southgate is fair and picks players on form, then Rashford should be nowhere near the squad this summer.

Ivan Toney and Olly Watkins should be Harry Kane's strike partners/back ups and then Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen, Kobbie Mainoo, James Madison Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon should all be ahead of the over rated over hyped and over paid Rashford right now.

We have a superb midfield of Rice, Bellingham and Foden who are certs, we just need to add the correct additions from the aforementioned players to the squad.

If he wants to play 4-2-3-1 then Rice and Bellingham as the 2 and then Palmer, Saka and Foden as the 3 for me on current form, with the caveat of playing Mainoo alongside Rice and pushing Bellingham further forward in place of one of the others.

I personally would go with a back three of Walker, Stones and Branthwaite or Guel, thus allowing us to have either an extra striker or playing 3-2-4-1 and utilising all that superb talent we have in midfield.

Tell Rashford to enjoy his holidays on the Med and take team mate Harry McGuire with him.

Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire Shaw
Rice Mainoo
Saka Bellingham Foden
Kane

A lot will depend on injuries or a return to fitness. I think a 4-2-3-1 would work well with the players we have. Left back is an area I'm most undecided about, personally I think a fully fit Luke Shaw is our best bet bit he's a player that is rarely fully fit.

Totally agree Bull.
But you watch, he will probably have a couple of good games before the end of the season and he will be in the squad on that alone irrespective of the fact he has had a very poor season.
Maguire will be in the squad as well but what has he done this season.
England selection, in most sports, has always include the older, experienced players regardless that they have past their sell by date. Look what happened with cricket when they broke that mould, young exciting players which made the game more entertaining and despite getting beat a few times it was good to watch.
We have a plethora of young talent in this Country and it’s those who should be in the Euro squad in preparation for the next World Cup.

The other night on commentary Ally McCoist was raving about how good Foden is in the middle of the park , rather than out on the left wing, said Southgate has just to find a place for him in the middle. After his performance against Villa , you couldn’t argue against that.
You haven't included Henderson. He will be in there.
FFS Wiz, I have enough stress in my life without thinking that the tactical genius that is Southgate will not only pick Backpass , but actually play the useless cretin.

Loads of fantastic options, just not sure we have the right manager in place to utilise them. Defence is a problem so without being naive best to focus on our strengths which are at the wrong end of the pitch for Southgate!
Left side of defence is a problem so with who is likely to be fit I'd go with

Pickford
Alexander- Arnold Stones Colwill Chilwell
Rice
Bellingham Foden
Saka Kane Palmer

Kyle Walker first man to go to in defence.

If he's performing between now and the end of the season then I would take Rashford. I don't forget what he's done for England in the past and I've always liked him but any of those dip in form spells where he's uninterested again then no.
Henderson would be a complete waste of a squad member. I would take Curtis Jones instead because he's got something about him. His injury might of stalled things but he's just coming back and he's been really good this season.

The selection headache from hell is Palmer and Saka basically play in identical positions on the right of the 3. The 10 should be Foden as Bellingham can play in the 2 with Rice. You can't just pick the best players you have to pick the best team according to the formation the manager wants. I should know because I'm in the top 6000 in the Sky Fantasy Football league.

Bill, I'm with you on that but lets not forget Palmer is left footed and can comfortably play on the left, i think Rice and Bellingham behind Saka, Foden and Palmer would be an awesome midfield.

As for you Fantasy League ranking, I'm not too sure that qualifies you as an 'expert" in saying that I bet Southgate's not in the top 60,000. 🥴

You’re right but it’s a pointless argument. He’ll play Jude in a free role and Rice and another holding midfielder. Leaving Foden, Saka, Grealish et al to fight over the wide positions.

Straight from the FA playbook.

Good players figure it out. Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Saka and Palmer can all start in the same starting 11 with Kane as a centre forward. Saka and Palmer change intermittently, Bellingham and Foden both play as 8s, Kane can drop in as a 10 allowing Foden and Bellingham to get into very forward positions when the opportunity presents.
As an opposition manager would you want to face that or Rice and Henderson as 6s and every one else in a static position?
