Any recommendations for boozers in Reading town centre , arriving mid afternoon .
The three guineas pub just along from the railway stationAny recommendations for boozers in Reading town centre , arriving mid afternoon .
On the one occasion I saw Pool at the Madejski I went in one in the centre that had little rooms and was a very old building. That was the only good one I found but it was a while ago - 2011/12.
That's the one. NB. Don't - at the back end of a session - order cider from these boxes. You'll find your brain no longer talks to your legs.I think that's The Alehouse. I found myself in there about 5yrs ago. The other lads I was with had got the train home. I was staying over. Been drinking before, during, and after the game as you do, but the two pints of Cider I had in there served out of a cardboard box and about 8 per cent put me on the floor. I was roaring . Worth a go. Small wooden pub right in the centre, beer mats on the ceiling that kind of real ale type boozer.
Used that before, food ok but wasn't drinking as driving. Easy walk to groundThe World turned upside down, on the Basingstoke road is a good shout, have parked there on several occassions and walked the ten-fifteen miunutes to the ground.
That's the one I've always used I think. It also banned the use of mobiles whilst inside.I think that's The Alehouse. I found myself in there about 5yrs ago. Been there before a game, it is possibly even more soulless than the ground and that takes some doing..Apparently the holiday Inn (reading south) has an Irish bar. 20 min walk / £7 parking.
Bar not cheap according to football ground guide. https://footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/championship/madejski-stadium-reading.html
A quick bit of Google and indeed, it's the 'Alehouse' (formerly known as the Hobgoblin).....I shall sleep easier tonight!!! They may as well make beards and chunky jumpers mandatory in that place.......I thought that neanderthal place was called the Hobgoblin? LSG was founded that day as a few of us buggered off to find some lager, and use our phones!!!
Local one for you Newbury, Monks Retreat one of the better pubs around the station. The Three Guineas outside the station is the usual away fans pub. The shuttle buses to the MadStad are only 2 mins walk from there and take about 10mins if traffic is OK. There are no pubs near the stadium, although there is a bar in concourse. It's a soulless hole, if we take 400 we'll make more noise than them.
Aye, know Reading well having worked there for 8 years, don't go out there very often now. Still nice to have a game 20mins away for once.Local one for you Newbury, Monks Retreat one of the better pubs around the station.
Sorry, that should have read 2011!My Royals mate says the best pub in Reading is the Boundary, 21-23 St Mary's Butts?
He also just pointed out to me that we haven't won on a Wednesday since 2021.
Did you leave your car at the pub or was there street parking nearby ?The last couple of times I've gone to The World Turned upside down. Maybe 15 minutes walk to the ground. Free parking and traffic has cleared by the time I've got back to the car after the game.
Left it in the pub car park. Drink beforehand then straight back to the car.Did you leave your car at the pub or was there street parking nearby ?
Do a decent carveryJust looked up The World Turned Upside Down and it seems they do grub too, so it looks like that’s where I’ll be headed on Wednesday, plus it’s only a mile walk to the Madj.
Newbury isn’t a bad place for a few beersAye, know Reading well having worked there for 8 years, don't go out there very often now. Still nice to have a game 20mins away for once.
I frequent a few in Newbs; The Globe, Dolphin, Lock Stock and Barrel and Kings Charles are my normal choices. More often than not it's a walk with the pup, calling in at The Bowlers Arms at Falkland Cricket Club though.Newbury isn’t a bad place for a few beers
That’s the plan. Booked a table for 17.30pm, meal and drink then walk down to the game. UTMPDo a decent carvery
Yes, the club confirmed you can pay on the day.Any one know of there will be a cash gate at Reading for walk ups on the night?
Not sure of the name of the Pubs but start in the Wetherspoons in the little square.I frequent a few in Newbs; The Globe, Dolphin, Lock Stock and Barrel and Kings Charles are my normal choices. That would be The Hatchet, the only pub in the town centre that is less than £5 a pint. Not sure of the name of the Pubs but start in the Wetherspoons in the little square.
