Reece James - Gone (bumped thread)

This is what worries me about Appleton - why on earth would he think James would improve our team next season .. unless he's already preparing for League One!

Sheffield Wednesday loanee Reece James is likely to remain at Hillsborough until the end of the season, but his long-term future appears to have taken a further twist, according to an article from Lancashire Live.

The 29-year-old is currently approaching the halfway point of his season long loan at Sheffield Wednesday, after joining from Championship side Blackpool in the summer. This is following a lack of game time, making his future with the club uncertain.

However, it now appears that Blackpool manager Michael Appleton would be ‘open’ to allowing the defender a way back into the side next season, potentially blocking a permanent switch to Sheffield Wednesday.
Blackpool currently sit 23rd in the Championship, two points off safety with just six wins from their opening 22 league matches. Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday sit 3rd in League One, just two points behind 2nd place Plymouth Argyle.

Has to be a tactic to get him shifted for a bit of dosh in Jan.

He’s no where near a Championship player.

What do expect Appy to say?
"He's sh1t so please take him off our hands?"
Or
"He's a great player and in our plans however if you want make us an offer we can't refuse...?"
Also his League 1 experience might come in handy next season

Bit of an update ....

Reece James is poised to remain at Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the season from Blackpool due to an agreement in his deal.

The defender is spending the season out on loan at the League One side under Darren Moore. He has played 19 times for the Owls in all competitions, playing both in the middle and left hand side of defence.

The 29-year-old has a contract at Bloomfield Road until the summer of 2024. He is a Wednesday player at present and will have 12 months to go on his Blackpool deal when his time at Hillsborough comes to an end in mid-2023.

Speaking earlier this month, Michael Appleton confirmed he was happy with how James was performing out on loan at Hillsborough. However, he also left the door open that he could play for Blackpool again and did not totally rule out a potential return in January.

However, opposite number Moore has now confirmed that James will remain with the Owls with the remainder of the campaign. This is due to an agreement in his loan arrangement.

When asked about loans, Moore told YorkshireLive: “The only one really that we know that is definitely sticking around until the end of the season is Reece James.

Not sure we miss him but Sheff Wednesday are a massive club to be making do with our cast offs.
Dele Bashiru deal seems to have gone quiet but I do not think he is getting as much gametime

Wonder if he might come back? Interesting with their man supposedly coming to us.

Who knows whether we'll see Reece James in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt again.

The Owls have just one league game left to play before they enter the mad, unpredictable vortex that is the play-offs. James has been arguably one of Wednesday's most consistent performers this season since arriving on a season-long loan from Blackpool.

His versatility has shone through, with an ability to put in solid shifts across a variety of positions in defence. Recent weeks had also seen him do a decent enough job stepping up into midfield, somewhere he'd previously played under Darren Moore when they were at Doncaster together.

If he is ruled out for the play-offs then it will be a sad end to what has been a productive spell. There is of course the possibility that James could return on a permanent deal but the relegation of his parent club has muddied the waters slightly.

There is now the possibility that Wednesday and the Tangerines could be swapping divisions next season, depending on how Moore's men fare in the end-of-season lottery. The Tangerines' fate was sealed last Friday and there is an uncertainty at the head of the club, who have gone through four managers in the space of a year.

The right decision, but who is making these decisions? We’ve not got a manager, and hardly a board of directors.

Him, Oliver Casey, Owen Dale, Doug Tharme and Matty Virtue have all been on loan in League One this season. Wonder how many will get another chance in Tangerine now we're back down?

Keeping James would surely mean letting Husband go, is that a sensible trade? We might also be able to get a small fee for him.

Dale I think will also go permanent at Portsmouth, although the club's short of wide players, so maybe not.

Virtue, Casey, Tharme, I imagine we'll keep due to shortages at CB and our ever problematic midfield.
