Reece James

If true, it's really good news. Seemed like a decent guy, but miles away from the standard we need to compete week in week out at this level.

I often got the feeling Quitch went for players like him and Dale because he felt he could control them and wouldnt face many challenges from them. Might be wrong, but he rarely seemed to sign 'characters' and the ones at the club or he did sign were always rumoured to have had problems with him.

This could be the first signal of a shift away to a more dynamic squad, might have just happened naturally the longer we stayed in the Championship but I just get the feeling Apples can handle a squad full of characters in a better manner than Quitch could.

Rumour early on was that Quitch wanted to sign the young players over older players, because of the control element you mentioned above so wouldn’t surprise me.

Hearing he is off to Sheff Wed.. a good move for him and for us. Never really rated him.
Good move for all parties if true. He is a decent player but doesn't really fit into our pattern of play and will never be a first choice starter here.

Think you might be right with your theory, Reece James is a really nice guy but wouldn't say boo to a goose.

First five games he played in midfield and it wasn't to Whintle came did he get shifted out yet we consider him a LB. 😁

On the point on Critch and characters/older players, I used to believe that too, and to an extent I still do but I remember there being rumours of a rift between him and Madine but clearly that wasn’t true as Madine clearly seems to love him.

Could be an element of that but I thought he was looking at players who could play multiple positions and cover for injuries on a tight budget.

The one thing I think we might need to condition ourselves on this coming season is that, as frustrating as it could be to watch it, Critchley made a plan for his team to still try and get results when they really shouldn't have. When at their most patched up. And it was an important factor in getting promoted to the championship and staying there. We'll have to see if Appleton is as adaptable. Or whether he's someone who makes it clear that when things go wrong it's all on the club for not signing that defender or midfielder he told them about etc.

It would make some sense if James is moving on as he was linked with The Massive before coming here but they got relegated. Darren Moore signed him at Doncaster.

If the left backs (and he is one by trade) are to be used purely as left backs then we don't need three of them in a 25 man squad. Even if there's every chance we could end up using them all in half a game given our injury record.

Yep, Keogh is not a character too.

I'm old enough to remember when we was anointed "undoubtedly our best left back" having played less than 90mins for the club there

Pretty poor signing, never looked up to standard. Glad we moved him on.

Think we signed him for his versatility tbh. Didn’t actually mind him but would of been in the list of 5/6 players we can afford to move on. Good look to him. He’ll be good in league one.

Hopefully he’s got a decent right peg as his left wand has disappeared. Literally never been so disappointed with a players delivery than this lad…..woeful

Casey and James both got three year deals when signing so still got 2 left so we've hardly got rid of them wonder if the new clubs are picking up all their wage.

Good technical footballer who did well last season, the lack of respect some people show players makes me laugh. Was at Man Utd as a youngster but to hear some of our thickos you’d think he’d come to us from Squires Gate.

Kirk Hilton was at Man U as a kid, still didn't stop him being garbage at football.
Of course it's all relative, James is a far superior play to Hilton, people can look back at last year with rose tinted glasses when it comes to James, he could do the basics which goes without saying for a professional footballer, but he was not a Championship level player which was born out in practically every game he played.
