Regardless of any quality or not between the teams.

Gorkeres should have had a red, whether it for the first incident or a second booking for a flailing arm later in first half?

That ā€˜2nd penaltyā€™ Jerry brought down in front of goal, penalty and straight red!

Potentially 2-1 and 11v10?
2 minutes later 1-2 and still 11v11 !!

Dare I say also potentially a straight red for our actual penalty, as Rogers had cut In directly towards goal and last man takes him down!!!

So at half time possibly shouldā€™ve been 2-1 and 11v8??

Referee has potentially relegated us today!?

Like I say only an opinion, but ref first half was unreal šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Btw sky pundit Sue Smith pretty much agreed with me when spoken to at halftime, bearing in mind she had tbe advantage of video replays at the time.

Didn't they change the rule about last man being an automatic red? I think it now depends if its a genuine attempt for the ball but could be wrong.

I agree, the elbow on Connolly was a red card, end of, no question whatsoever, had it been Gaz who had done it we would all be saying what an idiot he was an had no excuse. It was a game changing decision and the ref was basically a **. The foul on Rogers, had it been Marv or Hubby would have been a red card, but again the ref bottled it and it was another game changing decision and lastly the stone wall pen that we didn't get and had it been given, like it should, would likely have been a third sending off, a chance to go 2-1 up and we would be playing against 8. We have had that against us all season but that ref cost us the game, the fact we weren't good enough against 11 is irrelevant if he had made the right decisions.

Itā€™s every week we get shit referees that canā€™t wait to give the decision to the ā€œbiggerā€ teams.

Referees are a big reason as to why weā€™re going down and itā€™s their inconsistencies that put me off wanting to go more than the teamā€™s performance!

Lets see if they ban gorkyres retrospectivley like they did with madine,,bet they dont ,win or lose i just want to see a ref ,ref the game fairly if he cant then drop him down the leagues ,people are losing there jobs and getting serious injuries because of bad decisions ,and what is the point of linesmen or 4 official ,surely one of these must see what we supporters see ,it,s as if they are told not to flag for fouls then again they cant even dicide on who,s thrown in it is without waiting for the ref to give it first,

They won't ban gorkyres as the referee gave a yellow card and a foul so he didn't miss the incident like Madine he just decided it

didn't deserve a red.

Referee bottles the second pen and if our player had put the elbow in he'd have been off.

That being said they were miles better than us 2nd half.

We've seen many times red against us for such things.

2 incidents and 2 yellows.

I havent seen them back but you could bet we'd be getting someone sent off for either one.

No fairness in refereeing decisions, but our performance wanst good enough.

Shocking on the non-penalty. Blatant.

Complete piss-take when Coventry attack with a man down, we win the ball and try and break away and he blows up to get him treated.

That liner by the North missed blatant shirt pulling and Rogers shorts being dragged.

Sick of it.

I might be mistaken, as I was following the ball, but what about the attack Cov had, and we regained possession near our box, went on a counter attack only to have play stopped because one of their players was down in their own half.
Was he already down when they had possession? If so, thatā€™s another load of bollocks.
Pretty desperate blaming the ref for that result if Iā€™m honest, they were better all round, but those sort of decisions at least give us a chance of a surprise result.

The second pen the guy came in from behind and took Jerry's legs when he had a tap in. I really think the ref thought "I've already given them one" which is atrocious. Absolute joke, was the most clear and obvious penalty you'll ever see.

But little Blackpool are apparently not allowed 2 penalties in one game.

Ekpiteta got a straight red at Wigan for last man ?
Just had a look - there was a rule change but it referred to denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity in the penalty area. If its a genuine attempt for the ball its a yellow now, not a red. So it doesn't necessarily mean last man I guess.

When we got the penalty I actually thought it was outside the box but was glad, thinking that our luck had changed. How wrong I was, the ref had a howler today and it could have been very different had he given Gyokeres a red and possible red for the other penalty incident. That being said we didn't play well today and were well beaten by a much better side

Have you seen the penalty Sunderland got??
The standard and inconsistency of referring is dreadful at the moment.
I wonder how we would have got on with VAR this season bearing in mind the studio refs are no better.

Some related comments from the Coventry forum:

Deserved the win overall, we were much better than them. Few sloppy mistakes over the 90 which we weren't punished for and they never really looked like scoring from open play. That said, I have some sympathy for their fans, I'd be pissed off with the ref if i was them. They should have had a second pen and Hamer would have walked, if it was given. Reckon Gyokeres would have been off too if we'd had VAR.

Had to laugh at Hamer running the show straight after he should have been sent off

Should gyo have been sent off?
Without a doubt. Two swings and a kick, ref has had a mare. Great for us!
It was a punch, VAR he's off. It was very similar to the Billy Sharp one last week, which he also got away with.
Add that to Hamerā€™s non penalty and we could have been down to 9 men and 2-1 down at half time.

Arguably the worst ref of the season. Donā€™t let Sunderland fans see the highlights.

The Gyokeres forearm smash was a definite red card. He turned round to look at Connolly and to make sure he made contact. Right in front of the referee. I really can't understand how he could decide that was not a red card. The Madine sending off against Huddersfield was mild in comparison.

Ref was a joke but nothing new.

Really needed things to go for us..... tbh not even go for us just the correct decisions, but of course we only get reds ourselves for the same things, yellow for other teams.

Even Burnley got a yellow for the same type of challenge Carey got a red for in the away game, plus other sides with similar challenges had theirs overturned by var, our appeal was unsuccessful of course, pathetic.

That said having got back into the game to concede that 2nd gaol before half time was criminal and weak as piss.

The 3rd looked pathetic too.

Itā€™s been said before. I honestly think the ref didnā€™t give the pen because heā€™s already given us one.

We were unlucky in that respect. They did the dirty stuff better than we did and got away with it.
It's absolutely ridiculous, if the decision is a penalty, you give a penalty.

Are they judging the game or just trying to even out some random decisions regardless of what's happening.

He was very inconsistent in his decisions.

Iā€™d have a better feeling if weā€™d have just lost because Coventry were too good for us. They were - but the ref certainly missed some key decisions.

The pundits on the ITV4 highlights show agree it was a sending off and a 2nd penalty.
I know it makes absolutely no difference but will Eltrincham be told he has made mistakes?
If not why not when you compare his decision across the EFL today.

if it was a genuine attempt. It wasn't, but they were savvy in telling the Ref what to do.
We crumbled on 44-50 minutes today but 2-1 versus 10 (could have been 9) might have been different.

Only a small one but what about the blatant push on Keshi when we were breaking.

He was less than 10 yards away, looking straight at it, yet waved play on šŸ¤Æ

No one gives a toss itā€™s LittleBlackpool - refs are rubbish and hate US and only US

Think we read too much into referees. Yes we should have a penalty but we were shit. Itā€™s a bit embarrassing and scraping the barrel looking for reasons why we lost. The only real reason why we lost is because we are utter shite and they were light years ahead of us.

It really isn't scraping the bottom of the barrel, to be pissed off about not being awarded a cast iron penalty (subsequent sending off) and a further sending off. It would literally have meant the difference between winning and losing (3 points or nil points). It's easy to be 'light years ahead' when the man in the middle is essentially chalking off opposition goals and allowing you to dominate by cheating...

I think you should focus on just how shit we are. That is real. Iā€™d be embarrassed blaming the ref after that.

Imo these biased decisions changed the course of the match at a crucial time. Seen it loads already this season. Instead of us being in the ascendancy, it was deliberately switched to favour the ā€˜biggerā€™ club.

Embarrassed for blaming the ref for not doing his job?

It matters not whether we were shit or notā€¦ Those decisions still changed the game and cost us three points..

As shit as we were, we still exposed them and created good opportunitiesā€¦

We are scrapping for our lives ā€¦ The same as all the other shit teams down the bottom and todayā€™s shit ref may well cost us our survival this seasonā€¦

And whoā€™s to say that we donā€™t increase in confidence and our performance level improves if we get on top in the game???

Itā€™s all fine margins (especially when you are a side low on confidence) and the referee has fucked us over massively today šŸ‘Ž

If we canā€™t handle a penalty not being given (after being given one) and a soft raised hand then perhaps we havenā€™t got the bottle or mentality.

We lost today because we were utter garbage. Nothing else.

O/P is exactly how I saw it, we were robbed today. No matter how good they were in the second half we should have been 2-1 up and they should have had 3 sent off. Yet again itā€™s little Blackpool thoughā€¦ā€¦. cheating ** šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”

They say decisions even out over the season, but I'm seeing absolutely no evidence of that at all. I think ATG is right to an extent - we lost because we were shit, but it is a fact that big refereeing decisions have gone against us on far too many occasions this season for it to not seriously affect our fate. These are game changing, clear and obvious decisions. Lavery getting a red card for being hauled to the ground at Sheffield. BFC being fined more than Sheff Utd despite them having been found guilty of failing to control their players more times than us. At what point do we question it? How many more instances are we supposed to accept? Madine getting a red against Huddersfield, and then the Cov player doing the same thing and getting a yellow.
