Reflux?

I suffer from it regularly. Used to use Ranitidene (Zantac) for instant cure, but it’s been taken off market due to health concerns. Now use Nexium, but can take 24+ hours to kick in.

It may be worth having a look at what your eating......I used to get it quite a lot......Doctor sent me to the Vic where they shoved a camera down my throat....but found nothing.
Then I read that certain foods are causing a reaction etc....I was drinking a lot of white wine at the time, and the article said because of the acidity it could aggravate the lining of the throat, the oesophagus and ultimately the lining of the stomach.....so I stopped drinking wine....and moved onto craft beer instead.
No reflux..........couple of years later, got another attack and I just increased my 'Mediterranean foods'...Olive Oil, Tomatoes, Oily fish etc.....Gone

I think twice in 10 years I've taken the meds the doctor gave me.....but changing my foods has really helped.
There are loads of online sites where you can see the foods that can cause reflux.....well worth seeing if you're eating any.

And by the way.....still enjoy the wine.....but in moderation so I can still have it.....

"Protein pump inhibitors" are the best bet which you can be prescribed. The drug is omeoprazole, the market brand being Nexium. Obviously its very much caused by diet so changing that should be your first course of action. I take it but not daily but will have one if I know I'm going to eat something that will disagree with but fancy a treat, curry falls into that category for me.

Had horrendous acid reflux for a few years which was later found out to be caused by a small hernia at the top of my stomach.

Docs said there wasn’t much point getting rid of the hernia, as it would likely just come back again.
Instead prescribed Omeprazole. Take one a day and never had a problem since.

sorry edit to add that in hadn’t seen the others talking about Nexium, there’s a slight variation in nexium and the prescribed Omeprazole. Don’t ask me what. But the prescribed stuff got rid of mine where as nexium didn’t seem to quiet get it.
Might be different if your case though.

I’ve had it my whole life, bloody awful.

Doctor will probably prescribe omeprazole. If u don’t want to go down that route drink milk to neutralise the acid.

Stay well clear of coffee and tea (coffee is much worse), and too much green veg is also bad.

If it happens after meals, try to eat slower.

Didn’t realise Ranitidine had been withdrawn. I’ve got a few packets in the house and take it a couple of times a week.

I’m still alive so it’s all good!

Exactly the same with me re hernia and omeprazole. I regularly run out, so buy Nexium as a substitute. My understanding is that they are very similar but it is certainly cheaper to get omeprazole on prescription than Nexium over the counter.
