Released list announced

Sorry for Grant Ward. Don't really get why we keep Moore when he's never going to play. We've got more senior keepers than we had senior strikers last year.

The squad we have left must be up at its numbers limit. If we aim to upgrade in a few positions, someone else needs to go.

We've released Ward and Robson, and Bowler very likely to leave. I think Thorniley will be sold too, so that's four spaces. I also think we'll replace either Reece James or Luke Garbutt. So that would be five signings potentially. I wouldn't let any of our strikers go tbh (assuming they haven't requested to leave). Creating chances has been a much bigger problem for us this season than finishing them imo. I really do think that any one of Yates, Lavery or Beesley could get 15-20 in the championship with a better midfield behind them. Yates and Lavery managed nearly double figures despite feeding off scraps and being constantly rotated.

I just think we're in danger of thinking we should upgrade the whole team all at once, and often it doesn't work like that and isn't a good idea.

There’s a good chance neither Maxi and Grimmy are with us next year apparently.

Bids in for Grimshaw and Maxi’s been told he’s going to be second fiddle and may look to move.

I don't think Critch is thinking we should upgrade the whole team and I think he knows it's not possible anyway. I suspect we will look to get a small number of players in to improve key positions and otherwise keep the group together. Some existing players will do better next season.

If they're not pretty damn high, they should be dismissed.
He's contracted for next season plus a 12 month option, and he's only going to get better (and more valuable).
Look at Bowler to see how a Championship player's value can balloon with one good season - or even a few good months.

After Ward and Robson going, we’ve still got a squad of 26 (according to Scrafters list). I’m not sure how many fit into the under 21 rule (2 at most?), so we’ve only got one slot free?
I’m not one to think we’ve got the clout, or the need for a total over-haul, but there’s no reason we can’t get 2-3 loans in to improve the squad, and if Josh goes we can afford to buy a couple? But to do that, someone needs to be sold. I’m confident a few of the current squad will be going, not counting Josh.

It's obvious a few who have time on their contracts are going to be sold or loaned out, we have too many players who haven't proved themselves.

I think Maxwell and Anderson will go. Bowler's a certainty, so that's 3. I hope Yates stays but I'm worried his lack of experiences may mean he will want to move on.

I don't rate Dale but he is likely to stay, I would sell or loan out James who has been totally underwhelming,

I reckon this is who will be here of last season's crop and we'll add to that"

Moore
Grimshaw

Husband
Garbutt
Gabriel
Connolly
Keogh
Marv
Thorniley
Casey (21)

Carey (20)
Dougall
Stewart
Virtue
CJ
Dale

Beesley
Lavery
Madine

19 players with 2 21 or under, so a squad of 17, that gives 8 spaces. Hopefully Yates will stay. and there's the lad from Southport, if he's good enough then he will go into that group, if not, he'll be loaned out.

Casey was 21 on 2st January so is now a senior player. Your players leaving is just guesswork and I don't see the point really. And I'm not sure any of them will leave. Maybe, but maybe not. All pretty 50/50 I think.

Ward was class at L1 level and looked very much the part in the Championship until his injury. Given it's his 3rd bad injury I fully understand why the club have opted to release him. That said, I wish the lad well, if he can stay injury free he'll be a cracking signing for someone.
Might get the chance to train and earn a pay and play deal

Good luck

Of course it's a guess, it's a bit of fun innit? Don't they still include 21? I thought he was 21 in December, says so on the official site.

"‘Under 21 Player’ means a Player under the age of 21 as at the 1 January in the year in which the Season concerned commences."

Copied from the EFL Regulations.

Oh, and fun? This has got nothing to do with fun. 🤣

Would love a striker with pace to burn, we always go to feet, would be nice to have the over the top or through ball option.

Think playing in our midfield is no easy task so it's therefore hard to stand out in a role where the focus on how we play attracts you to other areas of the pitch. So no real feelings either way about Ward so all I'll add is that I said a few months ago that even though he's another year to go on his contract, in view of his injury record Kevin Stewart was lucky to get such a deal.

Grimshaw or Maxwell bailing, whoever Critch says is number two ?

Maybe part of big Gaz's contract renewal stipulates that he has to provide cover for the keepers ?

I'd bin Maxwell and keep Grimmy.

Yes I would too until you told me there were offers for Grimmy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's assume we don't sell either, I'd fully understand why the one that Critch says is number 2 would want to move on.

It can't be very satisfying sat on the bench hoping for your colleague to play chite or break his leg.

To be fair, what happened with us last season showed that there is always hope for a number 2 and if I am honest, I would have been Maxwell over Grimmy before all the shenanigans but generally there is nowt down for a second keeper.

As said above, Maxwell been told he’s number two but bids in for Grimshaw (on the low side) so going to be interesting to see what happens with that over the summer.
