I doubt it will be a republic in your kids, your grand children, indeed any future grand children and their children 10/20 times over..... my girlfriend hates the monarchy .. she's entitled 2 her opinion ... I respect that ... we've had some lively debates after a beer or to ... but it won't be a republic in our lifetime ... we are in our 50's I've told her ...
Plenty of others to step in to his shoes though that’s if he buggered off before his time.Let's revisit this thread after a few years of King Sausage Fingers in the hot seat.
True. It really is a clever system.Plenty of others to step in to his shoes though that’s if he buggered off before his time.
That’s why they all breed like flies.True. It really is a clever system.
I haven't watched the TV in the last week and guess what!!, a bit like I haven't been to church in a very long time and that's irrelevant to me aswell.....people 4 get we are an island and think that's why we are so unique in certain things ... no outside influences... if any body though the monarchy was irrelevant they haven't watched the TV in the last week ...
Never thought about it like that, The Church and the Crown used to the two cornerstones of society in our country a couple of hundred years ago, the Church probably swaying more influence in peoples lives at that time. Within that time the Church has become a near irrelevance and has lost any true power or influence, is the Crown going the same way?I haven't watched the TV in the last week and guess what!!, a bit like I haven't been to church in a very long time and that's irrelevant to me aswell.
Monarchy is a bit like religion, I asked questions about it, thought about it and now I don't believe in it, however if you accept it and have faith in it possibly it makes life easier for you.
In many ways its hard to make sense of the monarchy if you aren't a believer in organised religion.Never thought about it like that, The Church and the Crown used to the two cornerstones of society in our country a couple of hundred years ago, the Church probably swaying more influence in peoples lives at that time. You'd have to go back to Henry VIII in 1534 for the last time the church and the Crown were separate entities in England. Henry usurped the Pope's authority and made himself head of the church in England. King Charles III is both Head of State (through Parliament) and Head of the Church of England.Never thought about it like that, The Church and the Crown used to the two cornerstones of society in our country a couple of hundred years ago, the Church probably swaying more influence in peoples lives at that time. You’re in your 50s and you’ve typed “4 get “....people 4 get we are an island and think that's why we are so unique in certain things ... no outside influences... if any body though the monarchy was irrelevant they haven't watched the TV in the last week ...
My mother is a staunch royalist, also deeply religious. I’m neither but I understand the sense of belonging, comfort etc that they give her and can respect that... but then again I don’t carry an angry chip on my intolerant left shoulder Oh the irony of the word tolerance ( I have attached for the benefit of 1966....)Its a very odd concept in 2022 that you become a king by birthright. That said it holds no power, they are a useful tool of the state to satisfy a certain type. My mother is a staunch royalist, never understood why and I doubt she can tell. She's become a bigger and more vocal fan the older she got and unfortunately a lot more bigoted in her views. It's like listening to the audio version of the Daily Mail and despite being retired and having plenty of money seems to vent a peculiar dislike of benefit claimants whilst missing the irony of the Royal family living in a council house on benefits.
Don't think you have to be angry, intolerant or left wing or have any chips on shoulders to find the whole idea of monarchy in the 21st century a bit silly. My mother is a staunch royalist, also deeply religious. King Charles III has all the relevant requirements to be king.Plenty of others to step in to his shoes though that’s if he buggered off before his time.
Have i said otherwise?King Charles III has all the relevant requirements to be king.
Like you, I haven’t watched any coverage of the last couple of weeks events, not my thing but millions have... on Monday billions worldwide... bit silly? Obviously not to many people.Don't think you have to be angry, intolerant or left wing or have any chips on shoulders to find the whole idea of monarchy in the 21st century a bit silly.
Not strictly true now, is it.The monarch is above and outside of politics …. at a time when politicians are untrustworthy
Been in a rush today so probably didn't read properly, billions are into religion aswell, I think that's silly but just my opinion.Like you, I haven’t watched any coverage of the last couple of weeks events, not my thing but millions have... on Monday billions worldwide... bit silly? Obviously not to many people.
As to the first part of your post... the emoji I used seems to have been lost on you... apologies
I think the Guardian mentioned something about it but they've got an agenda and look down at folk like us and think we're a bit thick, rather than recognising the quite majority of the UK population understand and are perfectly happy with to role of the monarchy and Parliament. Not strictly true now, is it.
I seem to recall her getting her sticky little fingers involved in having laws modified before they were passed to protect and even increase her personal wealth
or did I just dream that
I can’t believe that Mr I’m an important person in Teesside and have met other important people in Teesside and beyond feels looked down on by the GuardianI think the Guardian mentioned something about it but they've got an agenda and look down at folk like us and think we're a bit thick, rather than recognising the quite majority of the UK population understand and are perfectly happy with to role of the monarchy and Parliament.
The current king used to write to cabinet ministers frequently when he was POW.I think the Guardian mentioned something about it but they've got an agenda and look down at folk like us and think we're a bit thick, rather than recognising the quite majority of the UK population understand and are perfectly happy with to role of the monarchy and Parliament.
