Yes done krakow, stayed just off the square, brilliantHave you tried Krakow?
What a beautiful city, still relatively cheap.
Old town and square in Tallinn, definitely worth a visit. Admittedly, was there back in 2010. Superb olde worldly bar in one corner of the huge square, serving strong ale in steins, by attractive serving ‘wenches’. Estonian women, are (IMO) some of the prettiest in Europe. Also trying to do different countries each time, heard tallin in Estonia to be nice
We are starting a road trip on Friday and will be in Porto next week ( Maia, actually). We have booked the Duoro valley train and will also take the train to Guimaraes- was last there in 1976 when the trains were still steam-hauled! Then back into Spain via Braganca and the mountains. Really looking forward to it.16 of us went for my 50th birthday, end of October. What a lovely city.
As others have said plenty of nice squares, bars and restaurants
The beer bike was a fun experience
We also went to watch Riga FC play
As others have said stay away from the touts who will try to persuade you to visit the more seedy places
Overall highly recommebded
My personal favourite city break is Porto, maybe take on other northern Portugal towns such as Braga, Guimaraes or Aveira or the beautiful Douro Valley
Guimaraes is absolutely gorgeousWe are starting a road trip on Friday and will be in Porto next week ( Maia, actually). Yes,we walked it 47 years ago, but it will be the cable car this time. It is the Duoro trip I am really looking forward to. We will have a day in the city and go over to Matsosinhos as well.Guimaraes is absolutely gorgeous
Make sure you take the cable car (or walk) to the church and castle area which towers above the town
Great stuff KT. I live about an hour from Porto, know it well. Have a great time!We are starting a road trip on Friday and will be in Porto next week ( Maia, actually). If you want a really nice, short and very cute, lovely train ride, come down to Aveiro, where I live, and take the Vouga Line(Linha do Vouga). It´s the last remaining 1m gauge line in Portugal, old-fashioned, stops at little hamlets that time seemingly forgot. Go to Àgueda(lovely river there). The last 2 stations after Agueda are very small villages(Macinhata and Sernada do Vouga). I ride up there on my bike and get the tyrain back. It´s delightful!Yes,we walked it 47 years ago, but it will be the cable car this time. It is the Duoro trip I am really looking forward to. Yes, the Pocinho train from Porto São Bento(a beautiful entrance there) is really lovely , especially in the Upper Douro Valley. We are starting a road trip on Friday and will be in Porto next week ( Maia, actually). Probably the best City break in Europe. And, I’d say it’s definitely cheap eg. Never spent more than £50 for meals, including drinks for four.Have you tried Krakow?

DoneI would give a shout to Prague for a city break, you can still get some fantastic deals. As usual don’t eat in the main squares a few blocks back and some great places to be found.
You will probably get off the train at Pinhao, very nice place though small. You can take a boat trip further up the river from thereYes,we walked it 47 years ago, but it will be the cable car this time. It is the Duoro trip I am really looking forward to.
