Rochdale off

Welfare of the players and staff a priority. I reckon football may be cancelled for most of January, the tier 4 lockdown is likely to go on for a couple of months. It really has been a shit year, it will take time to get anywhere near back to normal, this time next year at the earliest I reckon.

We'll all look back at this and laugh!!

Merry Christmas!! 🤪 🥳 🍻

How bloody annoying. I was really looking forward to it, after the Sunderland game getting cancelled on Tuesday this feels like a right kick in the teeth

How come Man City’s game goes ahead when two players are tested positive and Rochdale have one and we have to cancel? We have Maxwell out with it yet the game was still to be played?

Baffling to say the least.

The rules seem a bit strange. We have 2 positives but are prepared to play. Rochdale have 1 positive but say they can't play because of isolation protocols. Don't know who's right or wrong?
The EFL are investigating so we'll probably get a decision by next Christmas

Very strange, because following protocol that Rochdale think applies, we may as well stop all football, as we will surely see odd positives in most teams across all divisions.

If their other players have tested negative, they may be in trouble under EFL rules.

I’m replacing the match with Altrincham v Stockport.

Twice this has happened to us now with teams saying they can't fulfil the fixture, yet we go to the trouble of getting players in on loan to ensure we fulfil ours. Why can't they play squad or youth team players?

We should be awarded the win and the points.
Absolutely. I follow a lot of NfL and baltimore were forced to play with over 25 players unavailable and Jacksonville had every Quarterback unavailable. They both lost.

The Nfl position is they have spent a fortune on testing, there is a tight schedule and on the balance of probabilities players have caught covid by not following guidelines. Therefore its tough shit.

With youth players most clubs will have around 35 players to pick from, they could pick 11 players and should play or lose the points.

That's a bit of a local derby. Can you actually get in the ground?
I'm pretty certain there will be a couple of people there I know.

If they only have one player out then they should play. We were willing to play with 2 first teamer out, the EFL should either make them play or they should forfeit the game and we should be awarded 3 points,

I don't know the exact circumstances but we could have had 2 first teamers testing positive after being away from the squad and no need for any self isolation - that is no need for self isolation within our squad - and Rochdale could have had 1 first teamer testing positive a day after training with their full first team squad.

Regardless of the above hypothetical situation, I do feel that there is a definitely a possibility for teams who were willing and able to complete fixtures to be indirectly punished via fixture congestion at a later date.

I am not sure we will get far complaining as it will always be a case of "safety of players is paramount" as already mentioned above.

Oh bollocks! l love my Boxing Day watching The Mighty and a proper footy day all round! Ah well more turkey l suppose earlier rather than later

Totally agree with you regarding congestion. We are the in form team in the league and suddenly matches are being called off against us. The EFL need to have stringent and consistent protocols around this because as far as I can see it’s too easy to use COVID to your advantage

If they have only literally just found out and the player or part of the coaching team has been training with the full squad and then they come to us and potentially pass the virus on then.....well you decide.
Of course I was looking forward to this one like everyone else but these are strange times so I just have to accept it and wait for Tuesday.

It could be that if Rochdale's player was tested during or after training, then the rest would probably have to isolate. Just my opinion.

This news actually put a dampener on my Christmas Day. Been absolutely fuming about it 😂

Can not wait for the day all this Covid business becomes a distant memory!
