Romeo Beckham

I’ve just read an article about R Beckham joining Brentford and there is a suggestion his father has made some contribution towards this arrangement, this got me thinking and wasn’t there some suggestion that Kenny Dalglish was paying part of Paul Dalglish‘s salary when he was at Blackpool ……. or have I dreamt this ?

I think Alladyce wrote in his book that the day he was sacked he got his son Craig to sign a two year deal.

I remember being really excited when we signed Paul Dalglish and he'd been decent at Norwich I believe a few years before he signed.

Considering the quality of players we were bringing in at the time I doubt we'd have required a bung to sign him.

I remember him having some decent flashes down the right wing for us but he quickly faded and didn't look interested towards the end of his spell.

He scored one of the best goals I've ever seen at Bloomfield Rd. Mind you, it was the 28 passes before his tap in that made it great.

He was turd 💩

Wellens was like a lower league Gazza, got an honourable mention in Stevie G’s autobiography for the battles they used to have in youth football, different class in that Blackpool side.
I could never understand the hatred towards him. He was absolutely class for us, at a time when the club was going nowhere. Under the right owners we’d have built a team around him.
Still one of my favourites, will always get a good reception from me 😍

He's 20 and has signed for Brentford B whilst his smiling media whore dad was at his side lol. Meanwhile lads like Foden, Bellingham etc were playing top level football at an age less than 20. No offence to Romeo but he won't make pro footballer at any level.

Had a bit of a reputation as a big time Charlie didn’t he? Not sure how true that was but he always wanted the ball and was terrific for us👍🏻

I did get the impression he thought he was better than us. But he was right!!
Was gutted he left before Valerie backed Grayson and got us into the Championship

Probably the worst case of nepotism seen at the club, I recall him being on the bench at Cardiff when far better players didn't make the match day squad.

When he was released he ended up signing for Kendal Town in the Northern Premier League, a pal of mine who played there told me he was the worst player they had on their books there.

I hear it on good authority that he always likes to play in a 7 shirt like his dad. But when he arrived at training for Brentford, he asked the coach "What number shirt am I?"
The coach said "Wear four out there Romeo”.

Don`t really agree with that Shandy.

It is difficult to write a player off as not making as a pro at 20, just because he isn`t a Foden/Bellingham superstar at the same age.

My lad was at an academy with Nat Phillips (whose dad was in overall charge of the academy) and Nat was probably the worst player in his age group. It was widely speculated that he was only there because of his dad, and that he got a scholarship while better prospects were released. I would have said the same about him as you Shandy when he was 17, but I`d have been wrong!

As an aside Aaron Ramsdale was the goalkeeper in the U13`s with my lad, and they let him go after one season to make way for Jussi Jaaskelainen`s (the first team keeper at the time) lad. Nepotism doesn`t always pay...

I'm not writing him off because of his age, he's not good enough.

I went to see Dalglish play for Houston against NY Red Bulls in about 2007 in NY (well stadium actually NJ), and he was by far and away the best player on the pitch and deservedly got MOTM. That gives you an idea of the quality of the MSL at that time.

And here's another magical moment - for the Beckham family and anyone in the 500+ crowd at the Park View Road stadium in Bexley on Tuesday night.

Romeo Beckham had a 35-minute run-out from the bench on his debut for Brentford B.

It proved a successful cameo as the 20-year-old son of former England and Manchester United midfielder David Beckham helped his new side to a 3-2 win at Erith & Belvedere in the London Senior Cup.

There was a silver-lining for the home side, who reported a new record attendance of 553.

Romeo Beckham joined Brentford's B team last week on loan from Inter Miami II until the end of the season.

Not going over that again. He built a good side and was very successful at his subsequent clubs.
Voyeur, yes but you said "great" that is reserved for Fergie, Robson, Pep, Jose and in BFC terms Smith, Morty and Ollie.

I'll also not even get on to his outrageous behavour that lead to his dismissal as England manager.

Allardyce and McMahon great? Not in my books pal, not a chance.

I didn't mean great as in Alexander the Great.

And Ferguson was an alcoholic bully and Jose isn't great in the augmented sense of the word, he's a bit of a nob imo.

Its a sliding scale of greatness but Ollie is the greatest of them all obviously. 👍

The hatred towards Wellens is around him feigning injury while playing for Doncaster and getting Charlie Adam sent off for the tackle.

Remember Paul Dalgleash having a stormer for us away at Wycombe on a hot sunny dry day, just the way he liked it.

From memory it started well before that. Even towards the end of his Pool career

It was a straight red, nailed on. I was stood right next to it.
Wellness was already the pantomime villain before that game.

Fair enough, but I had no problem with him before that, and he got up quick enough when CA was carded. There is always an element that will have a go at players, either before or after they leave.

From what I can remember it was all about Wellens putting in a transfer request before the start of his final season with us, Scott Taylor did the same there was speculation at the time that other clubs were interested in them both .Colin Hendry though still made Richie the captain but I think people thought that he wasn't fully committed and some of his performances were below his usual level, that became evident during a heavy defeat at home to Stockport when Hendry took both Wellens and Taylor off to obviously make the point ,from then on the die was cast

I can remember Steve McMahon leaving Keith Southern out of the squad in favour of his son for a LDV trophy final at the Millennium Stadium
Bumped into the team at Trentham services after the game and Gnashers was steaming. Most of the team were livid with Steve McMahon and one said 'he had lost any respect I had for him.' Thought at the time that Macca's time was up.

Previous to that SM Jnr had given a goal away at Tranmere to a terrible backpass. In the post-match interview SM blamed Mike Jackson for the goal and said he was very disappointed in him - I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Haha, I can well believe it, I heard a podcast with Gnashers and let's just say he wasn't very complimentary about the way McMahon treated him that day.

I was at that Tranmere game I think we were leading at the time when McMahon jnr was brought on as a substitute, sadly the inevitable happened. I think Steve McMahons brother was on the Tranmere coaching staff that day as well.
