Roy Keane - arsehole or geezer?

Controversial just for the sake of it. I’m not sure how much of what he spouts he believes. But then he’s making a good living out of it.

I saw he had a run in with Souness the other day, I thought it was good entertainment and certainly not staged.

There was an internet debate on what would happen if the pair of them went into a 50-50 against each other in their prime.

Consensus on the internet was that Souness would snap Keane in two.

I'm not so sure, I couldn't imagine Keane backing out of any challenge and even if Souness was to top him, I can imagine it being like the Monty Python film with Royston fighting on with one arm and one leg.

tells it as it is or at least how he sees it. So yep, think he's good. I remember back to when Brooking used to do it and he was more concerned with being nice to keep his own nice persona up.

You know where he can stuff those bubble machines. Really annoyed me at Wembley when it was, all about Wet Spam

Deliberately contrary a bit like Phill from Wales. Looks close to being a park tramp with that monstrosity on his chin.

I do enjoy listening to him, sure he likes being controversial but it makes for good viewing.

I imagine I'd end up punching his lights out if I met him in a pub, he seems like a right mouthy f@cker.

I think his TV persona is different to what he's like off the cameras. I've read a few autobiographies that suggest this...I like him, he's controversial and says it how it is.. I remember when Villa had stayed up on the last day of the season a few years back, all the Villa players were going mental & celebrating in the dressing room, Then the camera went back to Roy Keane who was just shaking his head in disbelief. (I think Villa had spent a fortune that season lol)

Keane will never understand players who cruise through their careers not making the most of their talent. And he calls out bullshitters. Which all seems fine to me.

As for Souness, selling his illness story to the Sun soon after Hillsborough spoke volumes after what kind of person he is……

You have to bow to his knowledge of football. He’s obviously getting ready to play Santa at Christmas so if he gets rid of that ridiculous beard in January in with take years off him.

Keane would have eaten Souness for breakfast in his prime. Sometimes he talks bollux but I just think back to his one man show against Juventus and give him the respect he deserves.

No problem with you saying Keane was better, some will agree and some won't but I think it's fair to say that neither were too shabby Tommy.

Agreed. Two great players, but Keane has a complex personality that borders on insanity. His intentional assault on Alfie Haaland was an example of the red mist that seemed to haunt him. In his autobiography he said "I'd waited long enough. I f******* hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you c*** and don't ever stand over me sneering about fake injuries."

Sean O'Hagan of The Guardian once wrote that Keane is "...a committed and confident warrior on the field, a shy, socially awkward, and often lonely introvert off it."

As a Souness counterpoint, he massively regrets selling his story and has apologised on countless occasions, he also seems like a man wiling to learn from his mistakes and admit he's been a wanker in the past, he seems like a genuinely good guy these days, I'd also pick him over Keane in any team, in their pomp he was the much more cultured player along with the hardman bollocks.

Keane always picked his battles for effect, Souness would have happily taken on the entire stadium.

Yes, I get what you are saying about Keane but not sure why any of it would make him a better player than Souness so I'll stay on the fence and just say both were great players.

Royston has his demons, Souness has changed a bit of late and his stuff on Talksport is possibly a little contrived, more contrived than the things Keane does with that buffoon Micah Richards, but what I'm saying would have nothing to do with their midfield skills, I'm still finding it hard to split the pair.

Keane is great. His whole schtick is being Roy Keane. I loved how he wound up Wright and Neville by blaming England losing on them playing darts and played it deadly seriously with all the high pitched disbelief and dead eyed certainty of intransigence but just before they cut to end credits you could see him sneak a cheeky grin at both.

He'd be racking up 100s on here with best of them.

Roy Keane had an equal chance of being a footballer or a boxer.

Have you seen the Man Utd vs Wimbledon when vinny jones kicked him in the air, he jumped up looking like he was going to react, then looks at jones and doesn’t say a word. Souness in the first round for me…

Top bloke according to my son who’s at university based at the Etihad, they get ex players/ managers in occasionally to give a talk on their careers, Roy Keane is by the far the best so far apparently, couldn’t help swearing then apologised before doing the same again, very passionate about the game & an honest person talking about some of the horrendous injuries he caused, with some regrets but also an honest answer about why he did it
He’s exactly the same on tv as in real life & basically said without being big headed he was a brilliant player at doing what needed to be done in the game, in his own words he was a shite manager & the best decision he made in his managerial career was bringing Dwight York back from turkey to get Sunderland promoted, he was the inspiration in the dressing room and far from the best player on the pitch at his age but did a job no manager could do- especially Roy because in his own words again he was shite
( im pretty sure it was Dwight York)

Sorry Hills, I was not laughing at what you said, it was just the way you said it.

The consensus on the internet was an easy win for Souness but as I said, I just didn't think Royston would back down from anybody.

Backing away from Vinnie Jones is a bad line of form though as plenty of ex players have him down as a plastic hardman.

Is it better to use just for men on your beard like Beckham!
I'm about the same age as Keane, similar beard, not bothered about shaving and definitely not getting into beard dye!!

I have always loved Sir Trevor but hard to argue with that.

Your username doesn't make you Jake LaMotta Raging.

I'm thinking Royston stops you very early if not in the first !!!!!!!!!!!

I like Keane. I like his miserable attitude and dry sense of humour. Says it as it is. At least you know where you are with people like Keane.
