Maybe so but surely it’s blatantly clear none of the blame here can be placed at Sadlers feet ? He employed expert football men, he supported the expert managers brought in by them, built and funded a team based on what the experts have requested and then did it all again in new circumstances - all whist continuing to fund and develop the club on and off the field in unprecedented circumstances. We have been extremely lucky to have Simon Sadler take over the club after the very dark depressing Oyston years and we were all hugely grateful when he took over the reins but I have to say that some of the team managers we had under the Oystons, often I believe chosen after taking advice from our most revered Jimmy Armfield, did pretty well especially under the the difficult circumstances under which they were forced to operate.
So far and I stress so far, the men that have been chosen since SS took over including Mansford and the managers have not suggested that the future and indeed the present is nearly as bright as seemed to be promised at the time of the takeover .I think our owner said when he took over that last season was a time to take stock and this season we should be looking for promotion. That could of course still happen but things will have to radically improve to give us any chance of getting into contention for even the playoffs.
Our gratitude for what our new owner has so far so generously done for the club, great as it is, should surely not prohibit us from giving an honest assessment of where the team is presently at and what if anything is not working and needs improvement, as much currently clearly does, without somehow causing some to questioning our loyalty which in most cases and certainly mine,is lifelong as is our wish for a successful team.
Sadler is absolutely untouchable. Any critics of him at this time is rightly deserving of ridicule. Judge Mansford and maybe Critchley but Sadler really has ticked each and every box so far.
