Scotland v England

Souness just had a right rant about Southgate. He's spot on too.

Why are England sitting with two holding midfielders against Scotland who literally posed no threat all night? Zero shots on goal. And England had 7 shots on goal. Scotland should have been under seige.

England are awash with global attacking stars yet he continues with 2 holding midfielders. When will he release the handbrake and let these players go out and perform attacking the best teams?

If he won't do it against Scotland he'll never do it.

Souness thinks Bellingham should play deeper and a Maddison or Foden in front. That is what I wanted but hard to argue against Southgate when Bellingham plays like that. Nice problem to have.

At least he doesn't play 3-5-2 anymore. Leave that dinosaur formation to Critchley.

Brilliant tonight England

Controlled the match against a good side full of confidence

World class Bellingham and could play anywhere on the pitch
We made Scotland, who as you say, are full of confidence, look very ordinary and that's with a couple of players who should be nowhere near the squad.

Scotland were hoping to show that they were getting close to where they need to be. Miles off.

When we upped the tempo at 1-2 that was what we are capable of & it soon became 3. Most of us realise that we played well but what I don't get is why we didn't really go for the jugular more often & we could have emptied Hamden Park with half an hour to spare.

England play well and some posters seem to go missing. Watching England play and playing well is why i enjoy International breaks.
Best I’ve seen from them for many a year. Yes it was Scotland, but a decent Scottish side comfortably topping their group. Tonight we saw what we’re capable of, not that we didn’t already know. I just hope that Southgate keeps the handbrake off and that the likes of Henderson and Maguire don’t start. This is an exceptional bunch, probably the best ever, so we now have to win trophies. It’ll need Southgate to be brave.

Regardless of the opposition it was the most enjoyable performance from England for a while. I think they revelled in the atmosphere.

Really enjoyed the game. Great spectacle.

I’m genuinely believe this side is capable of winning something.

I also think once/if they do, they could dominate for many a year.

I for one will be loving it if they do 👍

Whilst Bellingham was great, I thought Walker was absolutely immense both going forward and at the back. He really is improving with age.

In relation to McGuire and Phillips how can a player not be good enough to play for their club side but be deemed good enough to play for England on the back of past Glories?

But I really like Dunk as a centre half 👍.

It's a shame that a team with so much potential will under achieve as a direct result of the negative tactics employed by the manager in 'must win' games. It's fine to turn it on in friendlies but when it really matters GS will resort to safety first football and inevitable failure.

What a waste of talent he has at his disposal.

Ah well, at least we pounded the jocks 😏

Bellingham is some player, he has everything to be the best player in the world.

How lucky we are to have such a talented footballer. He’s 20.

Also I thought Foden looked class tonight, especially in the first half. He was popping up everywhere.

Terrible team dumped out of the Euros by Iceland is now superb, AVFTT reckons we'll win something if we change the manager.

AVFTT clueless logic right there 👍
Yep it's like some have forgot the McClaren,Hodgson,Cappello and Fat Sam times.
Southgate is doing a good job wins another game against a team on a high then get's pelters nuts.

Then they struggle to name his replacement one idiot on radio yesterday said Gerrard why?
They have to be English for a start as no foreign boss has ever won the WC and the likes of Howe who ain't dropping the Newcastle gig so we'll probably end up with the U21 boss Carsley.

Talking to a Scots fan yesterday who said England don't have any superstars anymore, well I think we do have one now in Jude Bellingham.
Apart from a brief spell where we lost our composure England were a level above the Scots.

Southgate isn't going to stop the holding midfielders now or ever he is a dullard always was always will be it's how he likes to play .Main problem he always chooses someone that actually isn't even any good at it for their clubs never mind the national side .We always seem to have at least 1 player who when pressed treats the ball like a hot potatoe and passed it pointlessly like Henderson or Philips last night who lost the ball everytime he was pressed early on .He then started to pass it instantly .Even Scotland last night at times kept the ball individually better when pressed midfield .We either passed back or played it quickly and longer .It's been a feature in the middle of the park for a while almost always due to at least 1 player not being good enough

Scotland were well outplayed last night by a team of better players. As far as the football goes, that's all there is to it. As for the spectacle - tacky in the extreme. Scotland fans (and the SFA it would seem), have reduced themselves to a kilted, woad-faced hollywood characature; booing the British national anthem, (purloined by England for want of something better), as automatically as deemed suitable by this contrived pantomime. The English travelling support, in turn, effortlessly slipped into their boorish, forlock-tugging stereotype. And of course, the 'moment's silence' - named in feeble awareness of the fact that it was never going to last a minute - booed by the English who were then roundly booed in turn.

This is the farcical level to which following football has fallen. Hackneyed and repetitive insults chanted by each side at the opposition supporters is the tacky and unimaginative face of Saturday afternoons up and down the land. In this one international fixture however, the volume of that tackiness is ramped up to eleven.

This is a fantastic young team thats hard not to get excited about.
We are more than capable of not only winning a major tournament but going into an era (similar to what France and Spain did) of being quite a dominant force on the international stage.

Bellingham and Rice are a great partnership. Ward Prowse surely worth a run out instead of players who don't play for their clubs or play in Saudi. Phillips needs to get a move if he wants to play for England and Southgate should tell him that.
I would also like Tomori to play, disappointed that he didn't get a chance this time, hopefully his time will come soon.

Was nice to watch us have a bit of style and swagger last night - Bellingham, Foden, Kane, Walker, Trippier fantastic as were plenty of others. Walker is a different player mentally to what he was years ago, when he had the pace but made terrible decisions. It's a shame he is the age he is now, along with Kane and Trippier. This current squad have the best chance of winning a trophy that we've had in years.

Nearly choked eating my Scotch Porridge oats when I read that comment from a Scotch fan.
We have the likes of Walker,Grealish,Stones and Foden who play for the best team on the planet! Than the likes of Rashford, Saka and Kane. Many others who would walk into any top National team.
Hey Jude was No 1 in the charts 55 years ago today! We’re they singing it after his performance last night?

You can see it on here and off here that a big majority of English football fans do not put the patience, understanding and support that they have for their club team towards the national team. It's basically win something or you're shit.
Patience towards their club side? Were you on here three weeks ago? 😉

One good thing that Southgate did was persuade Walker not to retire from international football.

Ha ha. Yes!
Scotland is our oldest and nearest rivalry so in a club sense you have to compare it to us and the nobbers . No matter how we played you would take any win at Deepdale. Yet England win at Hampden in quite a bit of style actually and there's still so many English unhappy. That's the difference.
What amused me about last night is the hyping up of Scotland before the game. Totally OTT and usually reserved for England. To change things last night they brought Lyndon Dykes on, that's how poor they are. They've never got past a group stage in a tournament yet paint England as the big underachievers. It's honestly the other way round.

This team is easily the best team in my lifetime.
Reason is the number of genuine world class players. Souness was spot on. This team is a top team. Right manager not sure. Weak link definitely.

It was good to see a much improved Scotland. Actually they are decent and improving. I kinda like all the UK and Eire teams to be decent. In me blood like most on here I suspect.

The problem is who do we replace him with?
It has to be an English man and as club football at the top end is bigger than the England job won't we potentially end up with someone worse or out of their depth.

Yeah agree. We can all see he kinda isn’t the man - it’s a sickener.

He’s a bit Critch

I hope I'm never this delusional when it comes to football.
Did he back the wrong brother?

I wasn't unhappy at all with the win, but my thought's were if we'd attacked a bit more we could have ground them to pulp. But a win's a win. :)
