Good chance of a recall and by-election as can imagine he will get more than a 10 day suspension.
 
I do hope that the people of Blackpool South can see through the suave suited, well-spoken veneer of Sunak in order to see clearly, the tawdry bastard they elected to Parliament. He should be recalled and thrown out on his backside.

Serious point. Raggy might be your go to Blackpool fan but your vote needs to go to Labour so that the years of neglect in Blackpool South can be addressed. Don't dismiss this with a guffaw, I'm serious. Blackpool South needs someone in Parliament to do it justice - not this scum, Benton.

Seriously, I disagree. I was on Higgys team a few years ago. We beat both the lib dems and the greens in the general election. It felt good. It felt connected. It felt like someone who knew the people was out there. Intelligent, passionate, political, independent, informed, and straight from the town. Up against a sitting Labour MP who lived in Brighton. Nah, not for me.

Years of neglect you whopper he's only had the gig since late 2019 and most of that time was taken up with Covid.
You need to take your red blinkers off Marsden was awful for our town you sound like someone who doesn't live here passing comment.

Boris is looking for a safer seat apparently. He loves Blackpool and has been to the town more times than Sleepy Starmer in recent years. 1966 could stand for the Politics Obsessed Dullards Party though at the end of the day nobody will be arsed to open their door to him when he goes canvassing.😜

don't be silly. it would be a shame if they knew about his corrupt ways and still voted him in regardless. hindsight is great but we don't live in a movie set for Back to the Future.
 
1. It's not been confirmed that he broke any lobbying rules.
2. He was caught talking about what was potentially doable and what privileges his role afforded him e.g. the ability to raise questions, and speak to Ministers.
3. He didn't go through with anything. So from that perspective he may well be in the clear cos talking to someone is not against the rules.
4. BUT - he has been exposed as very dodgy, slimey and self-serving. The whole conversation shows he is in it for himself and is looking to exploit his position to make money. It's shameful. If he had any morals he would resign. I've zero respect for any MP of any party that behaves in this way. It should be a career-ending expose.
5. In summary, it stinks. He's reprehensible. But I doubt he's broken any rules and therefore he won't have the whip withdrawn and won't be disciplined. That's just how it is - mainly cos he didn't follow through with any actions subsequent to his dodgy conversation caught on film.

In fairness they’ll either back him and chuck money at the town to do so, or they’ll move an ‘at risk’ candidate over. Either could benefit the town.

And attempting to make it of all things from gambling. He does seem to be a very good friend of that sector.
 
The fact that they targeted Benton speaks volumes to me. He didn't actually break any rules on this occasion but did discuss rather casually how he could / would break them. He has been a parliamentary advocate for the gambling industry in the past and has accepted ~£8000 of hospitality from them.
