Sheffield United v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 15.10.22

For their 3rd goal, Maxwell was clearly shoved to the ground and into the goal by McBurnie their No.9. Which made it very difficult for him to recover for the soft shot coming in. A clear foul that the lino should have flagged.

Even Blades fans saw it that way....

"Blackpool fans furious that our third wasn't ruled out for a Mcburnie foul on keeper."
"Have to say I thought exactly same. It looked like the ball had gone and McBurnie just ran into the keeper and pushed him over with two hands into the net, then he’s scrambling to get up to face the shot."

Early morning kick off here and a heavy Friday night, didn't wake up til the 3rd goal had just gone in. Went back to sleep after Lavery got a red for being decked. Genuinely had to check again to make sure that last 20 minutes wasn't just a bad dream.

Firstly we’ve just gone away to a team at the top of the league and for the most part played the better football.

Secondly (and after an hours plus hindsight)
the ref probably gave us as many bad decisions as Sheff U. Don’t get me wrong he was awful but as has been pointed out we did get away with a definite handball and a goal chalked off for offside where i think a Blackpool player touched it en route.

Nothing negative from me after that effort. The team should be proud of that.

And Thompson is at this moment in time?
I've said that in another thread, that was posted before we lost Thompson 2nd half.

Were already not exactly solid with Thompson in some ways. Although I think he defends alright, just give silly balls away and is a hot head. Garbutt has been beaten too easily.

But we have no choice now and Garbutt has more to offer going forward.

So not a lot to lose now.

Garbutt can look after a football and pass, Dom T for all his defensive bombing about can't. His play on the ball has been poor from day 1.

Michael Dawson can fuck off, he nearly came in his pants when them twats equalised
I must admit, it was a very strange reaction. Normally with such an effort from a team down to 9 men, the pundit would be saying how unlucky they were not to have hung on. Has he some meat in the Sheffield utd. Sandwich so to speak …

Trying not to let the ref spoil the afterglow of what was a VERY good performance. Ended our run of being less than brilliant in the first half too. Agree the ref flipped a switch when we went 3-2 up. We went into shithousery mode a bit after going ahead and it was very effective, I was as impressed by how we were closing out the game as I was with the comeback. I think the ref started allowing them to throw their weight around in response to that.

Was a very encouraging performance, Marv is a huge loss but Thorniley has been immense and Williams..... well, we just have to hope, he's clearly got something to be amongst the Liverpool squad not long ago. Hope Husband is ready, don't fancy throwing Garbutt in.

The ITV goals show on ITV4 was pathetic in its appraisal of the match. Essentially little more than the 2 minutes of highlights on the Sky site and completely ignoring the controversy of the equaliser. Not worth waiting up the repeat on ITV 1, later tonight.
Rubbish.

I had to stop posting last night as I was absolutely seething at the way we were treated by a referee that would need both hands to find his arse in the dark.
I should be celebrating a magnificent point away at the home of a team that were league leaders, however, I almost feel as though we lost! Two down to battle back and go in front was a fantastic effort and then to hang on, survive the penalty, lose two men, only to concede a very dodgy goal in the 8th minute of added time, was as cruel as it gets.

In the cold light of today, when I've calmed down a little, it was a magnificent performance, Jerry Yates is back to the player we always knew he was and the rest of the team put in a real shift.
Can't help feeling we contributed to our own downfall a little with the sending off of Marv and Thompson, both should have known better in the circumstances.
But what followed after that was an absolute disgrace, especially Laverys dismissal. I hope we appeal that one and the club writes in the strongest possible terms to the EFL regarding the referees performance, for all the difference it'll make.

Absolute crap show.not one mention of the dirty tactics of that bastard Ollie mcburnie,a disspicable person and club.

I listened to the match on Radio Lancashire with Chissy and Brett Ormerod commentating. They were both annoyed with decision after decision by referee, David Webb. Brett, in exasperation, was shouting in disbelief down the microphone a few times. I was effing and blinding and going bananas, yet I was only on my second bottle of bitter. The Nobbers losing 2-0 didn't even pacify me. I've never had a problem with players getting booked for fouls, but dissent bookings are utterly stupid. Lavery's red card was really unbelievable, and Pool MUST try to have it overturned. Under the circumstances, Pool had most of the match and deserved three points but, because of the referee, had to settle for one.
