Sheffield United v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 30.10.21

Critch...

"We’ve got a good feeling now but that doesn’t mean we got everything right and Sheffield United could easily have won this game and I’d be standing here feeling different and speaking different.

“The games are decided on moments and the moments didn’t go for them today and they did go for us.”

As honest and humble as ever - he never panics when we lose and never over celebrates when we win. That is the ethos of every great manager and he is going to be one of the very best.

This squad has so many similarities to the PL winning squad.
It's still a case of work in action, we're far from perfect and we will hit a bad patch or two, but they're great to watch and you have to love their togetherness and their appreciation of the tangerine army. AND that's whilst training at SG ;)

That was a fantastic performance brilliant, back 4 and Grimshaw immense pick any of those 5 for MOM. Dougall best game of the season, Wintle solid as a rock as he is every game. Madine gave everything, you have to love him and Yates was fantastic before he was subbed. Demi and Carey made a huge difference and Keshi's finish was something else. I predict Carey is going to be an England player in the future.

Well, we are on a roll and we look really good. Who knows what this season will bring but it won't be relegation. The Blades were excellent but the goal killed them off. Brilliant support delighted for them and Neil Critchley, what can you say!!!!

they had more possesion and more shots, but and you could say that they were very unlucky but . . . . . all but one of their on target shots were tame and when they got past, round or through our defensive shape there was always a pool player there to pressure them. We had two good chances in the frist half their keeper had to make three very good saves during the afternoon, it certainly wasnt as one sided as some might suggest.

it was a solid rear guard performance, and sometimes you have to play like that.
Spot on

We all know we're getting the rub of the green at the moment. We also know that we are some way from the finished article - but hey - let's enjoy the ride, and you never know. Lavery, Carey and others will run a few ragged before this season's out.

Today we beat one of the best teams in the Championship. SU had excellent movement causing endless problems but we still prevailed. This team aren't the finished article yet, but we are on what looks like a continuous improvement line on the graph. If things get any better then anything is possible this season. Today I thought that Anderson had an indifferent game and was looking for him to be substituted. Minutes later he scored again. What do I know? The amazing thing for me is how often Critch gets decisions right. The sooner his contract is extended the better!

Hand on heart, who (apart from Wiz, probably) thought we’d get 9 points from 4 games (including 3 away) following the devastating injuries to Maxwell and Lavery.
Similar to last season, the more injuries we get, the better the results!
What a team! What a manager!

I agree. We shouldn't underestimate how well they played for about an hour, as reflected in the more insightful contributions on their forum. Our luck and resilience over this period created a context in which the subs could be made, frustration set in and control taken away from them. I genuinely think we were the better team for the last 20-30 mins, and could have scored another.

I love reading this thread when I get home.
It is quite different of course when you are there although to be fair some of comments like "get Keshi off" possibly weren't to far off the mark.
We certainly rode our luck first half and we nearly conceded a goal from our current achilles heel of defending in-swinging free kicks/crosses played behind the high line with a forward running in. Fortunately the linesman's flag went up. (Edit. Seen it on Quest and it was the correct decision).
That's just something I think we need to look at.
But we grew into the game and by the end we were well in control.
There's plenty of criticism for Bowler on the thread but what he does well is take the ball from one end of the pitch to the other. It was the right decision bringing Demi on for him though.
As for Carey like many others he looks like he's going to be some player.
Great result, another tremendous team effort, fantastic support and just for the record Gabriel was my MOM.

I'm in Portugal now after 11 years in Brazil. Going back for a 2 month visit in January but not before I get to BR for the WBA match in November.
Haha, just got back from a month in Portugal looking at potential paces to live ourselves, I'm hoping to be back in UK for Preston away, currently in Brasilia but we move around a bit, maybe we'll get a game together sometime somewhere...

I used to live in Porto. Which parts of Portugal did you think looked liveable? I know this is your own business, but I'm just curious. 👍

Hi. I know your post wasn't to me but... I live in Portugal. What do you mean by liveable? I used to live in Braga and Gaia. I love Porto. I'm in Aveiro now, which I like very much.

Some right 🛎 ends on the Sheff Utd forum - we are a “pathetic team” who the blades should be beating easily apparently! 😂😂
They've had the Championship and Prem money for many seasons and have been able to bring in quality players. We haven't had that money and still beat them. Can you imagine what we will be like if we have that money over many seasons.

Thanks for responding. Aaah, nostalgia. I remember all those places-each with its own distinct character. We were thinking of moving back to Portugal, before Brexit put a tin-hat on teachers working there. Go on, I'll be an opportunist. Do you know of any openings for (very) well-qualified teachers around there? Not looking for a job, by the way, just advice. Cheers / Obrigado / UTMP 👍

No worries, I’m a surfer so it needs to be near the coast we really liked Vila praia de Âncora a bit colder but close mountains as well, also liked Cascais or just outside, Sintra maybe, needs further investigation and more time spent but it felt good to be back in Europe

Cheers. Don't surf myself, but there are some serious waves in Peniche / Nazare, I remember. Yeah, I'm in South East Asia, and fancied going back to Europe, but Brexit scuttled that, sadly. Btw. I'm not opening that debate! :)

PS. Just looked up your gaffe. It's great up there on the Minho, with the Geres mountain quite close, and the Vinho Verde. Lucky bugger! ;)
