Should this squad be in the bottom 3.

Not convinced, I believe we are better than our league position.
I think there is very little difference between most teams in the division, its factors of individual errors and bits of skill and then general organisation and utilisation of resources at hand.

We are very poor at the moment and its down to the way we play and the way we utilise players.

7 defeats at home and 5 defeats away. 6 wins all season.
League table is (unfortunately) very correct.

A lack of quality on and off the pitch. Barring a handful, we are very much league 1. At least 3 Championship standard players needed to have any hope of dodging this bullet.

The way we’re set up at the moment, we’re absolutely one of the three worst teams in the division. The players are better than that though, they need a system that suits their strengths and the coach to get the team playing for him - which clearly they’re not right now. And as Phil says, it’s our midfield that needs attention this window.

Unity, passion, pride and teamwork can partly overcome lack of world beaters in a team, as we’ve seen before at this club. That’s when we’re at our best.

You could probably say the same about Wigan and all the clubs in the relegation picture. There’s enough quality when fit and willing.

Absolutely right👍… we are not using what we have in the best way… some frankly bizarre team choices like Beesley as a winger .

Yes.
We're a poor side who have glimpses of being OK with still a hardcore of players who where with us in Lge 1.
They pushed on last season now they've gone backwards add on none of our ten signings have been any good or injured even Patino is getting worse.

Yes, because the table doesn't lie.
You can't expect L1 standard players & young developing players, to survive in such a tough division as the Championship.
The table is close this season, and the sad thing is, if we'd have invested as we should have, we, like a lot of other teams, could have finished in the top 6.

Actually league position is rarely about the individual players. It's about the cobimed team. If you remember our prem league campaign on paper man for man we were weaker but as a collective we were awesome.

The glimpses we’ve seen of Appletons philosophy eg QPR away it was a refreshing change from last season. Ball was being moved forward with purpose and the movement was good.

But it’s been very hard to reproduce with injuries and other teams stopping us playing that way.

And it’s looking like Appleton himself has lost confidence in that plan which is fine if you’ve got a good plan B.

I’m not sure he has which makes us look like a team without a clear identity.

Absolutely not. Few tipped us to be involved in a relegation battle this season and that’s because the majority of these players proved themselves in this division last season. We were defensively solid and possessed a young team of players likely to continue developing and improving.
Yates, Appleton, Lavery and Beesley possess the ability to score goals at this level. The GK’s are solid. Marv was one of the Championships better defenders and we looked organised and disciplined at the back. The midfield was clearly an area with scope for improvement…

A decent manager with this squad keeps us in mid table. Rotherham, Preston, Luton, Millwall, Birmingham etc do not possess significantly better players. They just possess significantly better managers

I realised last night how weak our squad is. When my lad said we should play 442 and couldn’t think of 2 fit central mids that could compete at this level. So 433 and 442 we will struggle to play

Coventry and Sheff United away, probably better performances than last season. There is ability and desire when it suits and when the manager gets it right (which is a problem)

I think the players are good enough as they have shown in patches throughout the season but there is a complete lack of confidence at the moment which seriously needs to be addressed. Constantly being told that They’re not good enough without the injured players or that we desperately need to strengthen doesn’t help. We need to hear more positivity around getting the best out of the players we have, but I think it’s probably too late for that anyway.

At times we've looked pretty good but giving away soft goals and making mistakes, losing position in good areas is really hurting the team and at times they don't look like a team

I think our squad is below average technically to start with but has endeavor and a good spirit so we are OK. Unfortunately taking out the injured players aswell what it then leaves us with is poor and all the trying can't counter the lack of quality where it counts.

The most accurate post I’ve read on here for a long time.

for me we've not seen anywhere near enough good performances to suggest we should be higher in the league. In that respect team selection hasn't helped because generally I don't think we've much cohesion about how we play. We can occasionally put together a short spell in a few games where we look ok but there's not really been too many 90 minute performances. And I don't really buy into the reason that injuries have hampered us. No more than they've hampered any other team anyway. Who is out injured who is considered that good he'd have made a difference to our results? No-one for me.

Eh, probably "on paper". In terms of fees/wages we are upper mid league one. Even teams like Wigan/Luton are significantly outspending us in terms of wages. Rotherham/Peterborough last year are about the only comparable teams to us in this division.

Whether we think we should be on the bottom or not is irrelevant as the table is the barometer and where all footy fans asses their team’s performance, we are in the bottom 3 for many reasons
