Sleep aids

Not getting any sleep until about 3 or 4am at the mo after going to bed about 10.30 🫤

I know it’s just excitement brain overload for my forthcoming trip to New York as it started about a week and a half ago when I bought my ESTA visa and started planning my days. I’m just not good at all with adrenalin.

Am going to try a Nytol tonight.

Has anybody used any over the counter sleeping aids with any success ? I don’t want to burn out before I even get there 🥹

Any recommendations appreciated.

Thanks
Karen

Try ZMA (zinc / magnesium) and also try Glycine. Certainly help.

Strangely something like Cetirizine antihistamines can be good too

Sorry to hear that Lala, I sleep badly, and have done for over 50 years, I do get to sleep but wake up numerous times and my mind races. I usually give up and get up, mostly between 3 and 5am.

I’ve tried all the over the counter stuff and nothing worked for me. Give it a try though, it can’t do any harm, other than cost you a bit, or ask the pharmacist.

Bummer for you that Mates. I am generally a pretty excellent sleeper and take that for granted maybe. But I’m a nightmare with stress or excitement and try to avoid both !!

Yes, I’m looking at antihistamines. I’ve heard of something called Phenergan which I’m reading is quite effective.

Cheers Chunky.
I was prescribed phenergan tablets last year, seemed to help for a week or so, but then didn’t help

dont go to bed until later. seriously. ive had periods of insomnia since my twenties, and nowadays if i was to go to bed at 10.30 even if i was tired then i would be awake by just after midnight.,and then awake most of the night so i dont go to bed until 1or 2 in the morning i then get 5 or 6 hours of decent sleep every night. I also eat much less in the evening, and have changed my eating habits quite considerably over the last five years, eat more frequently and less at each meal.

There are various pillow sprays available, which are said to be effective, especially Lavender-scented ones.

Amazon have a good selection at around £5 - £10.

I’ll try that tonight with my nytol, sprays and oils 👌

I was recommended to try one of these products. Worked an absolute treat for me. Pillow sprays. Not cheap but IMO no price too high for a good nights sleep

Melatonin, you'll be out like a light. Brought some back from the US but unsure if it's sold over the counter here?
Tried that crap - gave me weird dreams and only ever slept for four hours with it.

Also made me feel terrible in the morning.

Strangely it was, and is available over the counter in Singapore!

For some reason I always fell asleep in front of match of the day.

Reading works too and if you don't fall asleep, at least you will be doing something useful rather than getting frustrated.

Me and wife take a couple of paracetamol at bed-time to help relax into a good night's sleep. Some soothing music as well could lead to the land of nod.

Ye, I’ve been on the relaxing piano music for a week. Had to resort to BBC Sounds relax radio at about 4 this morning though, as the piano music has lost its effect.
Getting a good few steps in today, see if that helps. Just purchased olbas oil and lavender spray 😁

I love Olbus Oil 🤣

Cover your sheets, your pjs and the bed 👍

It should wipe out another smell around - and then breathe deep!

I will !

I’ve just bought a new book too.
The sleep aids will end up costing more than the holiday 😆

I have always found Valarian works for me if you want a herbal remedy. Piriton is also effective but is still in your system the following night. I have also used ‘Land of Nod’ pillow spray and sleep gummies. But nothing worse than not sleeping Lala. Take that Labrador for a very long walk late on if not.

1000088959.jpgOr these, both the same really but both work.
Remember when you get to NY you won't need em anyway as it's the City that never sleeps 😉
